thanksgiving it is 5:00 a.m. on this thursday, november 24. here's what's happening. >> the oldest thanksgiving parade in america steps off in just a few hours. we'll be live at inflation station we'll get a glimpse of the gigantic balloons before the parades. >> accuweather is tracking turkey day showers. >> cowrnght calories -- counting calories may not be
what you want to do, don't we are we did it for you. >> it's like seeing the future. david and matt are here, good morning, everybody. >> reporter: we have a shower near reading and pottstown and a blip in lancaster county and out toward gettysburg. you can get a light sprinkle and spotty showers for the afternoon. for the parade, bring along an umbrella. for most of the parade you're dry it's not that severe. we're looking wide on the satellite, there's couple of more showers out to the west that could come in toward the end of the parade. 40 degrees in philadelphia right now. cooler in the mid 30s in trenton, allentown, upper 30s in reading an lancaster. 5 in millville. 40 in wilmington and 46 degrees in cape may. as promised winds are light, 8 miles per hour right now. all the balloons are getting filled up and we'll see them on
the parkway today. 46 degrees by 10:00 a.m. noon 50, that's what you can expect during the parade in center city. there's a chance of a late morning or early afternoon shower. the high today is 46 degrees and 6:00 p.m., 48 degrees, a spotty sprinkle or shower around, most of the day looks dry. looks like more of the same tomorrow, maybe more sun at times tomorrow. i'll have details on that and give you thanksgiving day afternoon travel forecaster >> reporter: oaky doke, david. southbound on i-95 near the betsy ross bridge, one vehicle is facing sideways in the barrier. you have a fire truck and ladder truck back here, at this point just the right lane is slowing squeezing by. as soon as the ambulance gets out of the way, at least it will be.
i-95 southbound blocked off by the betsy ross bridge because of this crash, we'll keep watching it. we're watching the blockages of course for a better reason. the 6abc dunkin' donuts thanksgiving day parade, jfk boulevard, 20th street. eakens oval in front of the museum. kelly drive and spring garden street are already blocked. in the coming hours, the benjamin franklin parkway will close as 16th and the mlk drive. more closures coming some already in place, if you're heading to the parade, stick to the highways. >> this year marks the 97th thanksgiving day parade. the nation's oldest. the balloons are being inflated and the floats are being prepped to roll down the parkway. katherine scott is live what we call inflation station where the parade is taking shape before her eyes. what's going on katherine. >> reporter: since we last spoke there's a lot happening at
inflation station. when we last spoke, the balloon handlers were just coming in. we have olivia looking at jfk boulevard by 20th street. sandbags are weighing her down. over here, mr. potato head is in the process of going up. behindato head we have t-rex. we have the grinch, that's a popular one. siewby -- scooby do. we spoke to the balloon handlers from fill adoptables, they like

you can watch his golf card ride at 6abc.com. grab a canned good before you head to the parade. the boy scouts will collect all that as they role their giant wagon down the parade route. all the donations help the less fortunate in the parade. if you're tuning in to watch live, coverage begins at 8:30 a.m. a fire in camden county has left nine people including 3 children homeless on this thanksgiving. the fire broke out in voorhees at 1:00 p.m. the red cross will assist two families who have no place to go. fire officials believe a malfunctioning heating unit sparked the fire. fortunately nobody was hurt. the family of a little girl who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in the overbrook section
held a rally to demand justice. >> the family along with several dozen supporters marched from west philadelphia to the scene of the accident. the 8-year-old was killed friday afternoon as she was crossing at 63rd street. her parents paused to remember their daughter. >> she was smart and caring and intelligent, she wanted to be a lawyer. >> police released the picture of the car they believe hit powell a silver alta ma with damage to the -- ultima with front end damage. metery parking will be -- meter parking will be free on saturday. parking garageses will have
lower cost for parking on the weekend. happy shop. >> we're going to have showers today. >> reporter: maybe by the end of the parade and it will be light. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing there's not a lot of rain most of us what we're seeing is north and west of philadelphia. if you were stuck out in this without an umbrella it wouldn't bother you much. my concern is later in the morning and in the afternoon when more pronounced shower activity is possible. even then it's not particularly bad. excuse me, let's get you outside, there's the airport on sky6 live hd we're looking at dry conditions in philadelphia right now. 40 degrees is your current temperature in philadelphia. another 40 in wilmington. 35 in allentown. 38 in reading. 37 in lancaster. 36 in trenton and looks like mid 30s in millville and mid 40s down in atlantic city.

because of the accident. as we pull in the waze app you can see 4 miles per hour balls it's one right lane getting by from time to time on i-95 southbound. if i were you and coming south toward center city stay on the boulevard. i-95 southbound is already a mess enthough -- even though it's a holiday morning. coming out of the burbs, last friday we got back the skippack bridge over perkiomen creek. that was closed april of this year. also last friday, valley forge national park we got back yellow springs road and the knox covered bridge closed since an accident in 2015. there was sewer work going on there, that's back in business, enjoy. tuesday, two days ago, now you're able to to go into and out of stone harbor again.
96th street bridge reopened. down the the -- if you're going down the the shore, you can get in and out of stone harbor 96th street bridge. a construction site platform fell overnight killing 16 people. wooden planks and iron pipes are strewn across the cooling to your. one person is missing. police announced yesterday that collin rhodes, the officer shot in the line of duties has died from his injuries. he stopped to question a man in a rash of break-ins. they found the officer shot in the head.
rhodes is the 5th police officer shot in the line of duty across the country. another child has died as a result of the bus crash in chattanooga. the driver 24-year-old walker is charged with vehicular homicide. investigators say there was no trace of alcohol or drugs in the system. they say he had driven off the designate bus route on the curvey road where there was a crash. president obama marked his final thanksgiving at the white house with humor and gratitude. first lady michelle obama served the beans and spinach. sosha was there. earlier in the day, he pardoned the turkey he said his daughter
