and killing a superintendant. >> and a long list of charges after a man stalks an amazon delivery driver and leads police on a chase. and donald trump fills up his cabinet after making an announcement to keep jobs in the united states. >> we begin with the severe weather in the south that leftself people dead. tornadoes tore through alabama last night destroying dozens of structures including a day care. it comes as firefighters in tennessee are trying to get control of a massive wild fire in the great smokey mountains. elizabeth is live with the latest. >> reporter: we learned that eight new fires started overnight in tennessee with severe weather moving across the south it was a scary night and officials say that for so many the danger isn't over yet. >> there is a tornado right there. >> from louisiana to tennessee, death and destruction.
in northeast alabama tornadoes ripped apart homes and businesses leaving animals to roam the roads and killing three people and critically injuring children at a daycare center. >> trees and 18 wheeler beds and things, actually tilting over or near tilted over. trucks and barns no match for strong winds gusting over 60 miles per hour. >> we are lucky that nobody was hurt here tonight. it could be the other way. >> in tennessee, the storms also turned deadly. this as people get a better look of damages done. after the raging wild fires swept through the resort area. dolly wood spared and she said in a statement she is praying for the families affected by the fire. including those whose homes were gutted and belongings scorched. the governor calling this the largest forest fire in a century
resulting in three deaths and forces more than 14,000 to scramble for safety. this man is still looking for his mother. >> she called me at 8:30 and said the house was on fire and i said get out immediately. and we got disconnected. >> meanwhile, for firefighters in tennessee there is some relief after seeing no rain for nearly two months there is now a flash flood warning in the area and all of that rain this morning has been helpful. reporting live in new york, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. >> turning to our weather now, it's a rainy day out there for your wednesday afternoon. a live look from sky 6 hd at penn's landing. gray and cloudy skies we see for much of the day. karen rogers is here now with a first check of the accuweather forecast. >> reporter: hi rick, you see on stormtracker 6 live double scan some of the rain is starting to break up in the last half hour.
some heavier rain is shifting towards the coastline, lets go in closer to these areas, in philadelphia we have holes in the rain and pockets of drying and still really wet in norristown and malvern in and out of it. heavier rain through coatesville now and pottstown if you travel on 422 it's wet there. wilmington and in medford lakes, along the garden state parkway are you watching for heavy rain in that area. lets show you stormtracker 6 live double scan 3-d all of this rain is headed in our direction and the cold front is still well out to the west. everything you see here is riding up the coast and coming through our region, we'll get a good half inch to inch and a half today in addition to yesterday, which was a good inch of rain in philadelphia. much needed rain and more on the way. ahead of the front temperatures shoot up there, 59 in philadelphia. it's already 61 in millville. 63 in dover. 60 in wilmington and 56 in

hillary clinton made a surprise appearance at the unicef annual gala snowflake ball. they presented an award to katy perry, a big supporter of clinton during her campaign. clinton made only one other appearance since conceding the race to donald trump. mayor jim kenney joined the effort to feed those in need at camp out for hunger in philadelphia this morning. the annual food drive put on by mmr's preston and steve. one of the largest single location food drives in the entire country. a mercer county teenager plead guilty to hitting the superintendant with her car and leaving the scene. he was struck and killed by the student. prosecutors say she was running late for a class trip and talking on her phone at the
time. the student whose name is not released is facing two years probation and community service and her license will be suspended for two years, she is due back in court for sentencing in january. camden county police want your help tracking down a sexual assault suspect. they say this man forced a woman into a nearby lot next to an abandoned building and sexually assaulted her. the van used in the crime was caught on surveillance cameras. if you have information call camden county police. a delaware county man is accused of stalking an amazon delivery driver and then running from police. it started in concord township on monday afternoon and the man tells police that a man in a red car followed him for hours yelling racial slurs and threatening him with a gun, they
tracked joseph keenan to his house later that night and then keenan took off and led police on a chase. >> heard the squeaking of brakes and the car was going fast and we heard the big bang and i looked out the door and the police car was this way, and the man's car was this way and they were on the man's lawn across the street. the car started smoking and they got him out of the car and put him on the ground and cuffed him and put him in the car. >> keenan is behind bars at this hour, he faces a long list of charges including stalking and resisting arrest. two thieves targeting a montgomery county pharmacy, the wellness first pharmacy on thursday afternoon. abington township police said an armed man wearing scrubs gave them a note that said give
narcotics and you won't get hurt. the men loaded the suitcase with prescription drugs and drove off in a silver toyota sienna. a new jersey judge is set to hear arguments against a citizen complaint against chris christie concerning the bridge gate scandal. brennan claimed he violated the official misconduct statute by failing to reopen the lanes to the george washington bridge in 2014. christie maintained his innocence and has not been charged . much more ahead on "action news" at 12:30, new details about a california woman's condition after she was kidnapped while jogging and her husband is now revealing some of what she went through. and he was no leprechaun and this no rainbow but this was a pot of gold.

enhancer and were free. a video shows a man stealing a bucket of gold flakes worth more than a million dollars, it happened in new york city two months ago. it shows the man taking the bucket from the open armored truck and police say it was a five gallon bucket of gold flakes weighing 28 pounds and worth $1.7 million. and a thief stealing packages in his neighborhood. aaron snow left a package of you know what from his dog. they saw the man driving up to his home to steal the pungent parcel. >> it's to the point it's getting worst and we put out the bait pack. >> his neighbors hope the prank will teach the thieves a lesson.

and chadds ford and heavier near the route 30 bypass and norristown in and out of the rain and dry at the moment. the garden state parkway was hit with that. it's about to push off the coast. lets go outside and check on the fog. what a dreary day. fog say problem and looking live at the commodore barry bridge you see the rain drops all over the camera lens. 59 degrees and we have that going for us and the temperatures are mild and the dew point obviously 59 and moisture in the atmosphere and pressure is falling and winds are light and may pick up when the rain is coming down. lets show you satellite 6 along with action radar you see the rain in motion moving in over the area and the heavier rain is lifting north of the city at the moment. this is just the beginning, look at this front, it's well out to the west at this point. the watch boxes are popping up where we see the severe weather the other day.
the low pressure is riding along the front bringing the rain on and off at times. future tracker 6 showing it's not raining steadily and areas to the northwest get the best shot of seeing a good amount of rain an inch and a half possible up there. 3:00 in the afternoon, a lull in philadelphia, not the case in the lehigh valley. we advance this to 6:30, a narrow band this model is picking up through the evening hours, and in and out of rain, a break at 3:30 when the band pushes off the coast and later on tonight a little after midnight. the heavy rain moving in and the cold front comes in during the overnight hours and sweeps through the area, and 5:00 a.m. a dry morning commute. things are looking up and as the front pulls through its pulling up the mild temperatures, ahead of the front 78 in charleston, in richmond you are in the 70s, the milder air is heading up in our direction and we reach the
