register for new sales. >> a winter storm is causing travel headaches out west, we're tracking possible freezing rain right here at home. >> let's turn to karen rogers in for david and matt pellman has traffic. >> reporter: we have areas north and west, allentown, reading and lancaster, the freezing rain advisory begins at 7:00 a.m., it ends at 11:00. in the poconos it doesn't end until 4:00 p.m. that's a bigger deal there. we're dry through the region and not seeing any drizzle through the area. the reason we would have concern is 23 in martins creek, 28 in pottstown, 31 in saint david. you can see in the i-95 corridor, chester, center city, leavette town we're above freezing -- levittown we're above freezing. in new jersey we're close to freezing. 33 in hammonton. 35 in glassboro, 37 in dover.

the freezing rain areas are north and we have the from 7 to 4:00 p.m. we have to look to pittsburgh to get any showers. we think the drizzle might sneak out as a warm front lifts through the area. you can see near washington, d.c. getting a couple of spots of drizzle currently. as we look ahead, we're talking about a high of 50, you'll not reach that until after sunset. 7:00 a.m., 38 degrees, lots of clouds, a lot misty. it's a morning where you might have to scrape off your windshield. 10:00 a.m., 44. we'll spend the afternoon in the mid 40s. 1:00 p.m., 45. 4:00 p.m., 46. temperatures are rising at 7:00. it is 48 degrees. they rise all night long tonight. we'll talk about the warm temperatures coming you're way in a few minutes. we don't look to pittsburgh for much, but we'll look for the drizzle this morning. i was coming from lancaster last

even. it was packed on the eastbound side of the schuylkill expressway, slow traffic even at that hour. i'm hoping most people made their trip home last night and this morning it will be quiet. each morning, i think it will be below average volume, but especially this morning, so far as we look at the schuylkill expressway by the blue route, it is very quiet. off 76o vine, everything is open. there was no overnight construction because of the holiday. crews don't come back until tomorrow night, tuesday night. on the bicker, no issues on i-95 the boulevard. the water main break was not finished on friday, here in queen village, one lane getting by on the southbound side of the columbus boulevard. normal schedules on mass transit. modified on the septa buses, regional rails on the sunday schedule as well as dart buses on this monday morning. >> new this morning, a cam

camouflaged gunman left a 52-year-old man in critical condition. this happened in tioga nicetown. the victim was hit in the arms and torso taken to temple hospital by private car and explained what they know about the earlier incident. >> we're getting information from several witnesses that the 52-year-old victim, family members of his were involved in an earlier fight in the neighborhood. >> police are interviewing witnesses, they are looking at surveillance video in the area to help identified the gunman. let's go to what some might call the holiday tradition. post christmas return rush. stores are open early for folks who are doing returning or hung for

or hunting for a good sale. annie mccormick has more. >> reporter: most walmarts opening at 6:00 a.m. look are for the big sales, this year they are on electronic, that's what researchers are forecasting. there were a lot of last minute shoppers over the weekend. many thought since christmas fell on a sunday, they would see bigger sales. they are seeing dip in a sales across the board. 20% of returns happen during the holiday season, $60 billion in merchandise. gift cards make up a huge part of sales and researchers can't track them until they are redeemed. there are websites that offer to buy and sell them, but you won't get the full value or you can donate them to a charity church or food bank or school.

check the holiday hours of retailers across the area. walmart, jc penny opening at 6:00 a.m. many others opening as late as 10:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. across different areas. again for the big sales they are hoping to get before the end of year, check your circulars before you head out. and channel 6 "action -- annie l 6 "action news" back to you. hundreds of miles of roads are closed because of a winter storm. jenae norman is tracking the storm. rmts the winter weather is making for tough travel the day after. in arizona snow brought two major highways to a standstill. cars, trucks and driver stranded along interstate 40 outside of

flagstaff. >> i don't know i'm just waiting, that's all i can do, right. >> reporter: getting home or to the mall could be tricky across the county. in the northern plains it's a slippery mess where freezing rain turned to snow. in the dakotas, 600 miles of roads were shut down along interstate 90 and i-94 and 63 because of near zero visibility. some of the areas could get more than two feet of snow. rain and possible storms could move through nebraska, kansas, oklahoma and texas. >> i hope i can get home. >> reporter: the winters weather wasn't just packed with snow and freezing rain, but high winds. in nebraska about 800 people lost power and there were reports of a possible tornados, jennay norman, abc news

washington. a little breezy right now, if you have somebody to peck -- pick up, a lot of delays are smaller airports like thunder bay and i doubt anybody is going. maybe not, that's the number to call, 1-800-phl-gate in case you need to know. >> the search continues for what sparked an apartment fire in willow grove in montgomery county. a woman out for a walk may have prevented it from becoming a christmas day tragedy. an "action news" viewer shot video of the fire. the people living upstairs were not at home at the time, but a couple and their daughter were living downstairs. they didn't know about the blaze, a woman walking by saw it and called 911. we spoke with the woman who

called 911. >> reporter: did they know that the house was on fire. >> no, it is an apartment. no, they didn't hear, we heard the smoke alarms going off. it was scary. >> reporter: now, the second floor did sustain heavy smoke and water damage, but again, luckily be nobody was upstairs, at the time. >> turning to meteorologist karen rogers looking out for freezing rain. ment freezing rain advisory starts at 7:00 a.m. we'll start to see the mist. right now we're starting with storm tracker 6 live double scan, we're dry, so no worries just yet. let's go outside and see what it looks like, yes, we're looking live right now, dilworth park christmas tree. all decked out and everybody is celebrating looking quiet out there right now in the city and it is chilly. temperatures 36 degrees right now, not a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, just 26-degree dewpoint. pressure is rising.

winds out of the east/northeast that will switch later in the southwest. the ocean temperature is 43. satellite and radar showing we have clouds up above. we have to look out toward washington or pittsburgh to see any precipitation. we have to look for a warm front in the area to touch off drizzle. the concern is for freezing rain or freezing drizzle in the northwest suburbs from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the poconos it could last until 4:00 p.m. not currently seeing it. but you can see the front out in the midwest producing blizzard-like conditions in the northern states. this will move through the state and give us a wet start tomorrow. here's the 12-hour forecast. by 7:00 a.m., 38 degrees, clouds in place, could be a little misting, a little drizzle. 10:00 a.m., 44. 1:00 p.m., 45. the afternoon temperatures in the mid 40s. at 4:00 p.m., 46.

temperatures are rising. 7:00 p.m., 48 degrees, by 9:00 it will be 50 degrees, that's the high today. today cloudy skies and mist freeing drizzle to the west, afternoon temperatures in the 40s, high of 50 after sunset, kind of an unusual day when the nighttime will be warmer than the daytime part. future tracker 6, this is not picking up a lot of precipitation, a little freezing drizzle in the poconos, at lunchtime, may be drizzle elsewhere at 3:30 p.m. it could be damp at times today. but with the real rain we get tomorrow this is a look at 7:00 in the morning commute. we could see showers some of it pretty heavy. let's run down the forecast, today's high is 50, you won't reach it until after sunset. most of the afternoon in the 40s, a touch of drizzle today. tomorrow an early shower, you saw it on future tracker, it could be stronger in a few spots. wednesday, cooler, 60 we plummet down to 43. average for now.

russian singers and a doctor known for his charity work. the aircraft was on its way to an air base in syria for a military concert ahead of new year. a large sinkhole is causing a hole in michigan to cave in. that hole is threatening other homes. 20 residents have been evacuated. a state of emergency in effect allowing for funding to make repairs. in the meantime, raw sewage is being diverted into a river instead of the homes. making it worst, melting snow and rain could speed up the sewage shoot. the sewage line is blamed for that sinkhole. not far from a sinkhole disaster that happened in 2004. the sixers tip off with the kings. the denver broncos will not be repeating super bowl champs.

5:30, tamala edwards is off, alicia vitarelli joins us along with karen rogers and matt pellman good morning. >> reporter: good morning, everybody, we have freezing drizzle in spots, it's areas north and west we have the greater concern from 7:00 a.m., to 11:00 a.m. in lancaster, reading and allentown. in mount pocono it could last until 4:00 p.m. we're currently dry in the area. you can see they are below freezing in the northwest. 23 in martins creek, 29 in quakertown. 30 degrees in coatsville, 36 in center city, 34 in chester. 35 in levittown. we switch over to new jersey, a chilly start, 33 in browns mills, hammonton. 34 in cinnaminson, 37 degrees in dover, delaware. satellite and radar showing we are dry there's a good amount of clouds, you can see the drizzle in pittsburgh and washington, d.c. a couple of little spots. we could get drizzle moving in. it's not a wet day, kind of cloudy and misty, and
