delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning. it's 6:00 a.m. on this wednesday february 1st and we're following some breaking news. >> the race is on to on that upright a tractor-trailer that overturned a dangerous spot managing to block parts of two major highways. >> we're learning new details about an abduction in philadelphia's port richmond second. >> brand new the action cam just sent in video of where a driver went on a crash course through germantown treating parked cars like bumper cars. >> and we will get you to your accuweather but let's also go first over to karen rogers who has got the latest on what is going on there on the blue route. good morning. >> yeah, we're starting with this breaking news coming out of delaware county here. this accident happened more than two hours ago and now we can still see this tractor-trailer flipped over on its side. we've got the tow trucks here. we've got police on the scene but they've been unable so far to upright this tractor-trailer and so this

ramp remains blocked and we can see they're kind of moving around one of the vehicles here trying to get it into place. but in the meantime, the ramp from i-95 southbound to the blue route still shut down at this hour. live right here and you can see on sky6 as they're moving some of the vehicles but it's still flipped over and this is a great shot on twitter thanks to the woodlynne fire company for sharing this one. and you can see that the tractor-trailer flipped over. we've got debris and this is the way it's been for hours. they have to upright it get it on the tow truck before they can begin to clear it out. here's what you can do. if you're taking i-95 southbound you can take 420 to macdadmacdade boulevard. you can take 320 to macdade boulevard or if you wants to head to 322 flip over you can go from i-95 northbound to the blue route but you can't go from i-95 southbound to the blue route and that's because of this accident a big one involving an overturned tractor-trailer. let's go outside live here on the vine street expressway. another accident just coming in. you can see how heavy this westbound traffic is. see this truck? looks like

there's another truck up ahead of it, too. an accident involving at least one truck, possibly two trucks off in the right lane and you can see the vine street expressway westbound as you head towards the schuylkill extra jammed because of that. one more issue. we've got a building fire here in whitpain township, township line road at jolly road. fire crews are here. is it ick to germantown pike -- stick to germantown pike and walton road as your alternate david. >> take a look at satellite we do not have any snow showers for a change this morning. there's a fair amount of cloud cover but there are also some breaks and i think overall we're in for a clouds and sun mix today. temperatures are cool but not as chilly as the last couple of mornings. we're at 41 degrees in philadelphia. 40 in wilmington, 38 in trenton, 35 a little colder up in allentown and reading. and 32 in millville, new jersey. winds a little bit of an issue. 10 miles per hour. not horrific wind-wise but a little bit on the breezy side and probably getting more so as we go later into the morning. 40 degrees by 7 o'clock,

though and up to 46 by noon and then your high today is a mild 49 at 3 o'clock. some urban centers like center city might hit 50 or so and then still 47 by 5 o'clock and 43 by 7 o'clock which means as late as 7 o'clock this evening we'll still be above our average high. when i step inside we'll talk colder temperatures coming back over the next couple of days and, tam, we're still taking a look at that possible rain and snow shower for super bowl sunday. that's coming up. >> all right. looking forward to hearing about that david. thank you. new developments overnight surrounding a and abduction in the city's port richmond section. undercover police were able to rescue the woman involved but this morning they're still out there looking for some of the suspects. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live on the 2400 block of aramingo avenue. that is where the woman was taken. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tamala, that's right. a 25-year-old woman was walking out of work last night at this shopping complex when she was abducted at gunpoint. police were able to take one suspect into custody. they're still looking for at

least three more. let's go to video from last night on the 2600 block of emery street in port richmond. you can see a white vehicle there. that's the victim's toyota that the suspects forced her into. about a half a mile away from the shopping center. shortly after 8 o'clock last night, plainclothes narcotics officers were tipped off that there was going to be an abduction from a business in the shopping center on the 2400 block of aramingo and that that abduction was going to happen within minutes. they were told the suspects would be in a red jeep cherokee and they were told the license plate number so police rushed over. first they saw the jeep with four to five people inside and then witnessed two of the suspects approach a 25-year-old woman who was leaving work. they forced her into the back seat of her own toyota and they took off. those plainclothes officers followed the vehicle but police believe the suspects knew they were being followed and spun away. they got out of the car jumped over some fences and fled. the motive here is that under

investigation but police believe this crime could be connected to others. police say she was targeted. >> they threatened her saying that they had her children and that's what scared her and caused her initially to -- when she was approached by these individuals caused her initially to listen to what they were saying. >> reporter: and it turns out her children were actually fine. the suspects never had them to begin with. police also followed that red jeep cherokee but they lost sight of it. it was recovered later but it was empty. both the jeep cherokee and the toyota were being held for evidence. we are live in port richmond, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> all right, katherine, thank you. new this morning, a driver lost control and smashed into two parked cars around 2:45 this morning on the 400 block of west rittenhouse street in the city's germantown section. medics were checking the driver out at the scene and police say no one was hurt.

>> ♪ >> republican lawmakers are praising jump neil gorsuch president trump's nominee for the supreme court. >> the qualifications of judge gorsuch are beyond dispute. he is the man of our country and a man who our country really needs. [applause] >> gorsuch is a 49-year-old federal appellate judge from colorado. the court has been operating with eight justices since the sudden death of justice antonin scalia one year ago. if confirmed, the court would continue to have four conservatives, four liberals and justice anthony kennedy as a swing vote. a professor at the university of pennsylvania law school weighed in on president trump's court nomination. >> bunch of times he's ruled against the government in favor of middle school students who had been arrested or immigrants or people whose civil rights had been abused by police excessive forcely. >> judge gorsuch will meet with vice president mike pence today. however, senate democrats have threatened to filibuster the

nomination some of them believe republicans stole the nomination away from president obama by refusing to schedule nomination hearings. >> ♪ >> new this morning, former vice president joe biden is launching a nonprofit foundation to promote equal rights and opportunities. the biden foundation will be a platform for the former vice president to advance priorities that he worked on in the senate and in the white house that includes cancer research, helping military families and preventing violence against women. the foundation says it will be funded by tax deductible donations. >> a new setback for the new owner of the old revel casino in atlantic city is sure to keep the building just a heap of nothingness along the atlantic ocean for awhile longer. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square. hey, maribel. >> reporter: hey, good morning, matt, that's right. glen straub lost his bid to be exempt from having to secure a new jersey casino license. the which asian says he needs one even though straub wants different company to run a planned casino resort. straub hoped to open the hotel this month but officials say

the opening of the casino is not even remotely imminent. stocks ended lower after reports show is consumer confidence slipped in january and investors tried to gauge the impact of president trump's travel ban. right now futures pointing to a higher. oh the federal reserve wrapped up its two day meeting today. expected to leave interest rates unchanged. vespa is trying something new launching a boston based division called piaggio fast forward. the first creation is the gita. it can follow a cyclist or jogger. no word on when it will be available for sale. matt and tam we could all use a little help with our groceries if it could only help me unload. >> maribel i imagine you see older people sometimes in the grocery store and they have the cart. now they'll all have their cute little gitas behind them. >> like a little r2-d2. then the c3po can put the groceries in the carly we got it solved. >> speak with an english accent, too. storm tracker6 live double scan shows that for the first time this work week we do not

have snow showers in the picture this morning and as we take a look outside, there are some breaks in the clouds a-i think overall it's a clouds and sun mix and the sun will be coming up in a little while over the ben franklin bridge and we'll see how things are playing out locally. right now 35 degrees in allentown, 41 in philadelphia, not bad temperature-wise up and down the i-95 corridor. still a little bit cooler up north and down in the millville area and in rural central south jersey. and there you see those clouds breaking up a bit to our west. again i think sun and clouds mixing. is a pretty good bet today. that's what we will call in the lehigh valley, sun and clouds, breezy as the day goes on and a high of 45 which is above average but still cool enough for jackets. down the shore we'll hit on or about 50 in many shore communities, sun and clouds breezy jacket weather there as well. in philadelphia we'll go for a high of 49 degrees today, sun and clouds, getting a little bit breezy with winds running out of the west at 12 to 25 miles an hour during the day but a pretty nice day overall.

overnight partly cloudy skies at first probably clearing a bit toward dawn and it will be a bit colder. the winds die down but we also drop down to 32 for a low. and some outlying suburbs probably get into the 20's overnight. tomorrow is cooler but seasonable. ground hog day there's phil getting ready to make his call, 42 degrees under the sun tomorrow, winds west-northwest at 12 to 20 miles per hour. did i just hear a boo somewhere? for phil, okay. we'll see what phil says. it does look like it's going to be fairly bright out there in punxsutawney during the day. we haven't hemorrhage snow so far this winter. we're running about 60 percent of normal and part of the reason, look at how mild it's been. all of these red days in january were days where we had above average highs and overall the month went 5.5 degrees above average and that's one of the warmer januaries on record. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast brains milder today, 49 degrees as february kicks in. then mostly sunny and breezy tomorrow for ground hog day and a high of 42. colder air comes in for a few days. 36 is the high on friday, brisk, colder maybe a flurry

around. sunshine on saturday still cold with a high of 35. clouds increase on sunday with a high of 37. in the afternoon and evening a weak feature arrives that gives us some rain and light snow showers. doesn't look like a lot of snow necessarily but it is super bowl sunday and of course we do have a concern with all the extra people out on the roads and as matt mentioned it's historically one of the big dui days of the year. not a good year to be playing around this year especially because there could be some slick road conditions so keep your eyes on that forecast if you do have plans to head out. >> it's the most dangerous time for me to come in because people are weaving around all over the place. hopefully people heed your call david. 6:11. baby on board. police corner fugitives and find out baby is along for the ride. >> electric cars may be good for the environment but they failed an important crash test. karen. >> you can see this truck accident on the vine street expressway approaching the schuylkill partially blocking the right lane creating a backup on the vine westbound.

philadelphia. you can take a look at your screen and see some flames coming from a structure there. again, the kensington neighborhood, firefighters are there. we see them with their flashlights. this is the 100 block of east willard street. we don't know if this is a home or some type of business there. there are both at that location. but some heavy flames coming from and structure in kensington. chopper will remain over the scene and we'll get some more information for you later. this is some video that chopper took earlier where you can really see the intense flames coming from this and again, some of those firefighters right there on what looks like the roof of this structure trying to poké holes perhaps and vent this out try and get it put out but a raging fire that is dissipated a little bit as we saw live from chopper. again, the kensington section. we'll keep an eye on it. >> let's go do karen rogers. it's been a busy morning on some major commuter roadways. >> it is busy if you're in that area instead of east willard you can take westemoreland street instead.

let's take a look at the vine street expressway. we've got this accident involving two trucks partially blocking the right lane so the vine a little extra heavy westbound as you head towards the schuylkill expressway you want to watch for that accident on the vine street expressway. let's get back to our breaking news in delaware county. this accident happened at 3:30 this morning. they've been trying to upright this tractor-trailer that overturned and is blocking the ramp from i-95 southbound to the blue route and in this shot you can see the ramp from i-95 and northbound do the blue route is moving fine. the trouble is southbound to the blue route completely blocked at this point and we're hearing that the truck actually overturned and then slid into the area and the driver was trapped for awhile. the woodlynne fire company and rescue 67 doing a great job out there and they have been sharing some of the pictures, too, of that and here you can kind of see how it's completely flipped over. a big accident that's had this ramp shut down for hours. so if you're in delaware county and you're trying to get around it you could take i-95 southbound to 420 to macdade boulevard or i-95 southbound to 320 to macdade

or you can even just flip around take either of those or get on 322 flip around because you can take i-95 northbound to the blue route but you can't take i-95 southbound so you can travel northbound from the blue route from i-95 but not southbound to get to this accident scene that's been blocking this ramp here for hours. let's check another problem that just popped up here. this is near pottstown hanover street at temple road we have an accident here as well and today is one of the few days we're dry. it's been dry all morning. 33 in quakertown. chilly there. but 41 in center city. temperatures better than they were yesterday morning. 43 already in hammonton and today we're headed up to 49. sun and clouds and a bit breezy out there, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. three robbery suspects fled l.a. county sheriff's deputies on a high speed chase and all the time they had a baby in the car. this ends on a dirt road when the female driver crashed into that gate and the suspects gave themselves up. the female driver came out of the car with the baby wrapped in a blanket.

deputies took custody of the child and arrested those suspects. >> ♪ >> and new this morning the u.s. army corps of engineers is expected to grant the final approval needed to finish the dakota access pipeline project. just last night the acting secretary of the army directed the army corps of engineers to proceed with an easement and says it's necessary. this could be approved within days. the move will likely be challenged in court by the standing rock sioux who have spent months protesting. they are fighting the four state pipeline claiming it threatens tribal drinking water and cultural sites. >> a real game changer. u.s.a. football plans to tweak the rules of tackle football to make it safer when children pop the pads. >> ♪ >> in today's tech bytes some of the most advance the cars coming up short when it comes to safety. >> tesla's model s received an acceptable rating in new insurance industry crash tests. experts say it doesn't do enough to protect against head injuries. >> bmw's i3 rated good but there are problems with its

>> overall not too many problems out there but the one we have is huge. that's this overturned tractor-trailer and now you can see it slowing a little bit passing the scene on i-95 southbound. that ramp to the blue route still blocked with that overturned tractor-trailer. don't forget the new jersey turnpike pennsylvania turnpike connector bridge remains closed for that ongoing structural issue and we've been seeing the alternates get really jammed during the

rescue 67 showing us these images that we saw as we've been watching on twitter. they're still dealing with this. haven't yet uprighted the tractor-trailer. this happened nearly three hours ago. it is still blocking the ramp from i-95 southbound to the blue route. you can see they've got the heavy duty tow trucks on the scene but haven't yet been able to deal with it and upright the tractor-trailer. so, this has been a mess. as we come off of this shot i want to show you what it looks like here with the traffic cameras because we're starting to see how i-95 is backing up. you can see how penndot's out here. they're blocking that ramp. you can't get from i-95 southbound to the blue route so now i-95 southbound as you head towards 322 here everybody in delaware county slowing down and checking out the scene right here. here's one of the images of the closeup and kind of brighter image you can kind of see how the tractor-trailer on its side. the woodlynne fire company sharing that but just a mess of a scene all morning. you haven't been able to use this ramp. so, if you're traveling on i-95 southbound you can get off at 420 take that to

macdade boulevard or continue to 320 take that to macdade back to the blue route or you can just flip around like on 322. you can get from i-95 northbound to the blue route but you can't get southbound on i-95 to the blue route so major accident that's been causing problems. elsewhere around the region we have some other issues we've been following. so, the schuylkill you are just seeing some normal slowing mostly about 43 miles an hour. i-95 southbound now we have a disabled vehicle stuck at the betsy ross bridge in the right lane so i-95 southbound starting to back up. seeing speeds in the 20's. we had that fire in kensington we have been talking about and you have an accident involving a truck. you can see the truck right here partially blocking the right lane. so now the vine westbound getting extra heavy as you head towards the schuylkill expressway. dave. >> this morning karen it's cold to start out but not as cold as it was yesterday. also take a look at satellite. you can see the cloud cover beginning to break up and over philadelphia i do expect some bright sunshine in just a little while. skies starting to get

followed the vehicle but police believe the suspects knew they were being followed and then sped off. the suspects spun out of control on emery street. they got out of the car, jumped over some fences and fled. police also tried to follow the red jeep cherokee but lost sight of it. that car was later recovered on livingston. >> we had our aviation unit, we had 26th district as well as 25th officers cordon off the area. we set up a grid. we also had our k-9 units come to the location. and we began searching the area. >> reporter: and the motive of this abduction remains under investigation this morning but police believe it could be connected to other crimes that took place in the area. we are live in port richmond, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> all right, thank you, katherine. breaking news out of the city's kensington section. firefighters are battling a rampaging fire at a home on the 100 block of east willard street. the fire started around 6 o'clock this morning about a half hour ago and from

chopper6 you can see flames showing on the first and the second floors of that middle row home. the fire then spread to neighboring homes. so far no reports of injuries. we do have a crew going to this scene. >> 6:36. a jury found six defendants liable in the civil case of the deadly center city building collapse. now panel must decide how much each defendant will pay up. an unsupported four story wall fell onto the salvation army thrift store at 22nd and market streets june 5th, 2013. seven people died and 13 others were injured. the defendants include a new york real estate develop, salvation army the architect the demolition contractor and the man hired to use his excavator to demolish the building. the penalty phase is expected to begin on friday. >> ♪ >> happening today, president trump's supreme court pick will be going up to capitol hill to begin meeting with lawmakers. the president has tapped federal appeals court judge neil gorsuch. the appointment would not change thes balance. gorsuch is a legal

some early sunshine and overall see a mix of sun and clouds today. starting out at 41 degrees in philadelphia. so, not as cold as yesterday but still coat weather certainly and there is a bit of a breeze at 10 miles per hour out of the southwest. we've seen those numbers waffling from about six to 12 miles per hour this morning even as high as 15 in some places. and there again you see the clouds beginning to break up around philadelphia. not that it will be totally plow skies all day long but i do think a sun and clouds mix is a fairly reasonable expectation. 41 degrees by 8 o'clock. 43 by 10 o'clock and it is going to be mild this afternoon in case you've been sort of hunkered inside with the cooler air the last couple days. 46 degrees by noon and up to 49 degrees at 3 o'clock for your high. some urban centers like center city could even hit 50 and that end by 6 o'clock still 45. fairly mild for this time of year. looks like the northern suburbs will be a little cooler today but not bad in the mid 40's. upper 40's up and down the i-95 i-95 corridor and a couple 50's on the thermometer the farther south you go.

tomorrow ground hog day a high of 42 plus there will be a breeze blowing and it will make it feel even cooler. lots of sunshine, though, and of course a lot of you probably hoping phil doesn't see his shadow if you believe in sort of thing but looks like a fairly good bet what with the sunshine and frankly he usually does see his shadow. so far just 6-inches of snow this winter and that's really a deficit. we're only running about 59 percent of normal snowfall. no measurable snow for about a three week period between january 8th and the 29th. however february does tend to be our largest snow month. then there are some indications that the second half of the month might be a little bit bumpier so we'll see about that. snow lovers you're not done yet. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, 49 degrees, breezy and milder out there today. and then mostly sunny and breezy on thursday 42. friday a flurry is that possible and a high of 36. for the weekend sunny and still cold on saturday, 35. and then sunday 37 degrees with gathering clouds and there is the chance of a rain or snow shower in the

afternoon or evening that could put down a light accumulation if it's snow and normally i wouldn't worry so much because sunday night usually isn't that big of a deal around here. this week i should say though is super bowl sunday. a lot of people out there driving home from parties and you want to keep abreast of the forecast and of course get a designated driver or uber or a cab or something like that. >> or maybe a good night if you're trying to decide what to do, do the thing closer to home or just stay home and watch the game. >> right. >> all right. it is 6:40. next up, real life drama in hollywood. police shoot and kill a man who they say went on a stabbing spree along the sunset strip. karen. >> chopper6 live on the scene of this breaking news. an accident involving an overturned tractor-trailer still out here blocking a ramp to major highway. we'll have details on that. i just got off the phone with police giving us some more details on why it's taking them such a long time to upright this tractor-trailer. we'll explain all that coming up. >> ♪

>> ♪ >> break news at 6:43. let's turn now to karen rogers for a look at this problem that's been going on for a long time. >> yeah, the accident happened three hours ago and we're still dealing with a closure. i know this is a dark shot but i want to show you chopper6. you can see they've got a lot of crews out here dealing with this overturned tractor-trailer. here's another look at the backup created because of this on i-95 southbound. you can see everyone jamming up as they head near this ramp that is shut down. you can't get from i-95 southbound to the blue route because of this overturned tractor-trailer. it's been out there all morning and i talked to state police and they say that part of the problem out there is because that the driver was

trapped in there for awhile so they had to get the driver out. the driver was transported to the hospital but also in addition to that, they have to unload everything on this tractor-trailer and i've been looking at this shot. i'm not seeing another tractor-trailer yet that they could take everything and put it onto so it looks like this could be out here for quite awhile. they said it's partially full and they've got to take everything output it i don't ton another tractor-trailer before they could reopen this ramp that you can see is blocked from i-95 southbound to the blue route and so if you're headed in this area, what you want to do is go ahead and take 420 to macdade boulevard to the blue route or 320 to macdade boulevard to the blue route or just flip around at any of these exits because you can get from i-95 northbound to the blue route but you can't get southbound and that's why we see that jam there in delaware county and chopper6 is kind of zooming in a little so now you can get a better shot. they've got a ladder up there. you can see all the workers out there, some debris on the road but i'm not yet seeing anybody take everything out

and put it onto another tractor-trailer making me think that this one may be awhile. so watch for that. looking the the big picture, other issues out there we've been talking about that fire in kensington that's causing problems. you want to look for that on willard street. i-95 southbound is all jammed up 'cause you have a disabled vehicle here causing a problem now traveling just 17 miles an hour. vine street expressway you've got an accident with a truck there creating problems westbound but the big one is in delaware county where that ramp is blocked from i-95 southbound to the blue route, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. well, breaking right now just minutes ago we showed you a roaring blaze at a row home in the city's kensington section. our annie mccormick is there now live at the scene on the 100 block of east willard street and she's got the latest. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tamala and we're in the kensington section of the city and right now even though this fire is on the 100 block of east willard, you still can't get around the area. in fact, fire trucks have blocked off numerous blocks around it so if this is an area where you're going to be

driving around this morning you are going to have a lot of problems. we're pretty far away from the scene but i want to throw to this video. this is video from a little bit earlier of the fire scene. we're told it was a fast moving fire and that it broke out around 6 o'clock in the morning on the 100 block of east willard street in kensington. now, heavy fire was showing on the first and second floors of the middle of the row house. the fire did extend to neighboring homes as well. so far there are no reports of any injuries. now, we do know again that it did spread to neighboring houses. i. now hearing from firefighters on the ground that it appears that one of the houses did collapse. it's not clear if that's the one that was initially on fire or one of the other ones that it spread to. i'm hearing one of the homes might be vacant and. so again at this point there's no word of any injuries. there have been no transports from the scene also no word of in it injuries to any firefighters but back out here live like we said you're going to see fire engines probably within four blocks around the

actual fire scene and for that reason we think part of it is because we're seeing a lot of hoses on the ground so they may have had difficulty bringing water down to where the actual home is. so, again, four blocks around you'll see issues. you'll want to listen to karen about how to get around here. for now reporting live in kensington annie mccormick channel6 "action news." back to you. >> all right annie and karen will indeed continue to help you with that. new this morning police in california shot and killed a man who they say went on a stabbing rampage. authorities say the man first stabbed someone near a liquor store in hollywood. he then went int went into a jan the box. witnesses say they saw him swinging a knife on people. three people were taken to the hospital with stab wounds and the man with the knife was and pronounced dead at the scene. >> a florida woman says her iphone caught fire as she slept next to it. amanda bentz of palm harbor says her iphone 6 plus was plugged in sitting on her night stand when it burst into flames.
