>> good morning everyone, 6:00 a.m., thursday, june 29 we're following two breaking news stories. >> first up a wild and deadly night in philadelphia, a shooting kills one person and leads to a chase between armed men followed by a home invasion and violent confrontation that hurt yet another person. we talked to the victim's family. breaking a 14-year-old is injured when a car is shot up in wilmington. police in the city are investigating three different crime scenes. >> a former bensalem football coach is under arrest charged with rape and other sex crimes against children. we're shifting back to

the water main riverton heading toward route 90 and 38. if you're coming in from delran or willingboro you have a problem with the water main repair and the crews are out there. i-95 it's a pretty start to the day, sunshine and dry roads. southbound traffic showing building volume. not a major delay, but nonetheless a little slow as we look toward cottman heading toward center city. >> breaking overnight, a crazed and deadly tale unravels coming from the olney section. a confrontation led to a man being shot to death on the street. the dead man's cousin gave armed chase after the shooter who tried to break into a home. the homeowner was not having it. it led to a violent fight. a lot going on. katherine scott is ready to break it down for us from west spencer street.

>> reporter: good morning, tam this is a complicated series of events that began with a homicide at 5th and spencer this was an extensive crime scene where it began and police have just opened the roads back up, within the last half-hour. let's start with the picture of the homicide victim, family identifies him as howard white a marine who was injured in a tank explosion years ago. as a disabled veteran he chose to go back overseas for seven years and work as an independent contractor. this happened at 4:00 a.m., howard was at a nearby bar and noticed a man casing the place. he was trying to defuse the situation and telling him to walk away and not rob the bar. that's when his family say he was shot twice. officers heard gunshots and arrived in time to see the suspect fleeing and white's cousin chasing him with two guns in his hand. he was a permit to carry and

complied with police to drop the weapon. officers chased the suspect who ended up breaking into a house on north 6th street in an effort to get away. the suspect got into a violent struggle with the homeowner and his adult son. the homeowner had injuries to his face and head and was taken to the hospital. the suspect was injured and in police custody. as for white's action his actions were heroic and saved lives in the bar. >> i asked him to donate a box of cheese burgers, he went and bought four blocks of cheese, i said you only needed you to get one. i said babe i wanted to make sure everybody eat, don't turn anybody away. >> reporter: the family said they will spend the day in prayer and pray for the young man who shot him.

they say this is something they hope police will continue to investigate. there were a number of witnesses they are being interviewed by homicide detectives. live in olney, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> very sad, thank you, katherine. breaking in wilmington, a 14-year-old is recovering after being shot early this morning. police are investigating three crime scenes connected to the shooting. police found the teen on the street at 5th and pine suffering from a gunshot wound at the shoulder. they think she was shot several blocks away while inside a car. police found a car two miles away riddled with bullets. the driver ran from the scene. a passenger is being questioned by police. a former football youth coach is being charged with assaulting three children. he is charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old in 2005 while a football coach in

bensalem. he assaulted another child from the age of 4 until she was ten and sexually assaulting a third child in 1999 when she was 16 years old and 18. >> we're glad to get this guy off the street where he will never do any other harm to any other children. >> the bensalem athletic association said it conducts extensive background checks. camden county police are trying to find an arsonist who was caught on camera. you can see the man approaching the flag pole in front of the camden county library, he tries to set the flag pole rope on fire. he may use crutches or have casts or medical boots on his feet. republicans are not giving up on healthcare reform. mitch mcconnell is hoping to have a revised version complete

by friday before lawmakers go home before the 4th of july recess. mcconnell put the vote on hold when it was not guaranteed he had support. president trump said republicans have a great healthcare package and there would be a great great surprise, but offered no further explanation. >> 6:08 a.m. department. homeland security is making moves to demand more airline security especially when it comes to electronics. let's go over to maribel aber with more. >> reporter: the new security measures for laptops on flights coming into the u.s. to avoid expanding the ban on laptops on flights originating from some middle eastern countries. it will affect 325,000 passengers a day on flights arriving at u.s. airports. it may require additional time to screen passengers and electronic devices for possible

was trying to jump off a bridge. he noticed the woman hop over the railing of the bridge in pittsburgh yesterday. he raced over and grabbed her arms to keep her from going over. two others helped to keep the woman on the bridge until emergency crews got to the scene. >> this was an unbelievable day i'm glad she can have another day with us, i'm glad i was in the right place at the right time. >> despite the rattling scene he went back to work, you see him at home plate as the pirates take on the tampa bay rays. a police officer in south jersey is under investigation, the department is reviewing his use of force during a j-walking arrest. >> reporter: guys we're loading it up. , a decent day today, a little warmer than yesterday, there's a chance of humidity ticking up a little bit as we go later into the day.

gunman who tried to get away while breaking into a house, it does not end there. katherine scott is live where all this started on west spencer street. katherine? >> reporter: that's right, matt, it started at 5th and spencer this is an extensive crime scene they towed a vehicle from here, we don't know how it was connected to the case. let's start with the picture of the homicide victim, 47-year-old howard white a marine, a disabled veteran who was injured in a tank explosion. he spent the last seven years overseas working as an independent contractor and returned from kuwait a month and a half ago. his family said he was at a nearby bar and noticed a man casing the place. he was trying to defuse the situation and tell him to not rob it. he said he was able to get the suspect out of the bar and that's when he was shot twice. officers heard gunshots and arrived to see the 25-year-old suspect running away and white's

cousin chasing him with two guns in his hand. his cousin had a permit to carry and complied with police to drop the weapon. officers chased the suspect who broke into a home on north 6th street in an effort to get away. he got into a violent struggle with the homeowner and his adult son who disarmed the suspect. the homeowner and suspect were taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. as for white's family and friends saying he was always a peacekeeper and his action helped save others in that bar. >> he would give up the shirt off his back. he was what you would call not a regular hero, an american hero. >> this is very hard for me and my family, because after serving your country and come home to get shot down like a dog, it's very hurtful, very painful. >> there were a number of witnesses they were taken to the

homicide division to be interviewed by detectives. live in olney, katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> a deadly crash in chester county is being investigated as a possible case of road rage. one person was killed along southbound route 100 near 202 in west goshen township yesterday afternoon. the victim's name has not been released. officers are looking for a red pickup truck seen fleeing the crash site. police in delaware county were after a pair of female bands it's wanted for crimes in upper darby. now officers in philadelphia want to get a hold of them, too. jeanette reyes is live at southwest detectives good morning, jennette. >> reporter: good morning, tam, the search for two women is intensifying police believe there may be one or two additional people are part of the string of robberies. we have new surveillance video to show you this morning, the concern is that they might be

getting more aggressive with each incident. authorities are growing increasingly concerned about a trio of robbers suspected of being behind five incidents some of them violent. three in upper darby and two in philadelphia. this is brand new surveillance camera footage of one of the robberies. >> we're asking for the public's help in identifying the individuals obviously they have gotten more aggressive the last few days they are out here. >> reporter: the police say the suspects believed to be two women and man held up a domino's driver along race street and stole his hyundai on june 21. they used the stolen vehicle during a robbery on the unit block of 10th street. the victim an 86-year-old grandmother visiting from ecuador. >> they didn't want the woman to take the bag, so the woman take out a gun and just look at her and real quick punched her.

>> reporter: the hyundai was crashed on june 24th on north 62nd and found with no occupants inside. two days later a domino's driver was robbed and his volvo stolen. >> these pizza drivers are trying to make a few dollars along with cab drivers who are making a living are in fear if these individuals continue to create crime in the communities and lay fear on everybody. >> when you get an 86-year-old woman and pistol whip her to get her handbag, that bothers me, because as far as i'm concerned they are violent predators and scumbags. >> reporter: police believe the 4th person is a man, the driver who is driving the getaway car. police hope anybody who recognizes the people contacts

police tam. a woman jumped out of the way just in time when a u haul driver barreled into a brewpub the urban village brewery yesterday. the driver was going the wrong way on second street and swerved into the building. the driver jumped out of the vehicle and took off after the crash. he was captured a short time later, the restaurant is open for business. a water downed version of president trump's travel ban goes into effect later today. the supreme court allowed the and he can tirveg -- executive order but placed limitations on it. those who request entry must approve they have a bona fide relationship with the school job or a person in the u.s. it should not include
