>> good morning, 4:30 a.m., friday, august 25. we're following several breaking stories on "action news," home invaders shoot a woman in the back as she tried to escape from a north philadelphia home. 6 vehicles collide overnight in atlantic county. hurricane harvey is heading toward south texas where residents are bracing for destruction. >> karen rogers is off, matt pellman has traffic and david murphy has weather. good morning. >> reporter: it's kind of the
opposite on the weather front around here. >> reporter: that's right, matt, we have cloud cover across the region, we have showers popping through early on, these shouldn't be around much longer, storm tracker 6 live double scan tracking a steady shower north and west of reading all pushing toward the east, it it won't be around all that much longer. 68 in philadelphia. 62 in allentown. 67 in beach haven. 66 in wilmington, 65 at this early hour in cape may. once again a nice afternoon. partly sunny skies overall, 75 at noon, 79 is the high at 3:00 p.m., before we slide into the mid 70s at 7:00 p.m. humidity on the low side again today. hurricane hard slee is starting to -- harvey is starting to pack a wallop pushing close to the coast of texas. we have it highlighted on the dploab -- globe there, and well-defined cloud cover.
105 miles per hour are the top winds right now and harvey currently is a category 2 and expected to be a 3 before it makes landfall at some point later on saturday. we'll be tracking this all day today for you. an issue with harvey for us, could involved gas prices i'll talk about that coming up. beautiful weekend coming up around here, matt. >> reporter: you do have things to watch, not being bored. we're not bored on the traffic front because there was overnight construction. we continue to watch it on the schuylkill expressway eastbound side by the blue route 476 they have the right lane knocked out, they were not working westbound only eastbound. if you're coming eastbound toward the curve without for the crews they will be out there for another half-hour. they have cleared from the boulevard, northbound side near broad street we're reopened there. the crews along i-95 southbound by the betsy ross bridge have
wrapped up. they are working on the ben franklin bridge itself coming into philadelphia. speaking of bridges let's check this one, the tacony-palmyra getting set for a bridge opening. traffic is stopped in both directions. despite the construction traffic is getting by just fine westbound toward philadelphia. one last live look in bucks county overnight construction along route 1 the super highway, these are the southbound lanes at oxford valley road blocked off once again this morning. everything should reopen at 5:00 p.m. for now head over to i-95 even though there's construction there, as well. >> this story is breaking overnight, a terrifying scene armed invaders broke into a north philadelphia home and shot a woman in the back as she tried to runaway. jeanette reyes is live on the scene with the latest details, good morning, jennette. >> reporter: good morning, tam, a terrifying night. police believe the suspects followed their victim into her
home and that is when the terrifying night began, she is fighting for her life after being shot in the back trying to escape. let me step out of the way. this is the home where this happened. police say it happened just happened past 1:30 a.m., two masked men entered the home and announced a robbery and demanded money and drugs. there was 4 people inside including a woman in the second floor bedroom. she was chased by an armed suspect after she tried to run out of the home and shot in the back. another man in the home tried to get the attention of the neighbors here by throwing weights out of the window which may have gotten the authorities here quickly. police spotted the men two blocks from here that fit the description they were looking for. one was i.d. by three of the
victims. coming back out here live, this is the window where one of the victims threw out a weight that may have gotten the attention of the neighbors. the shooting victim is in critical condition being operated on at temple university hospital. police are waiting until she is in stable condition so they can ask additional questions. the investigation is underway. we'll let you know as soon as we get an update. jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." >> we have breaking news, a double shooting led to a wild chain of the events in philadelphia overnight. gunfire erupted on east rittenhouse street at 1:00 a.m. friend stole a pickup truck in order to drive a shooting victim to the hospital. he is in stable condition. a second man is critical. during all this, police chased the suspected shooters vehicle from the scene until it crashed into a garage at 20th and
stenton streets. one person is under arrest. a second man fled the scene. we'll have more on the breaking story in the next half-hour. breaking overnight there's an all-out search for the gunman who fired shots at wilmington police. officers returned fire on the suspect who got away. it's unclear if he was wounded. the shootout happened on tulip and scot's street. police searched an 8 block radius. 6 vehicles crashed on route 30 in atlantic city in the westbound lanes after 11:30 p.m. 6 people were injured. police have not revealed the details on the injuries or how this whole crash happened. developing right now, hurricane harvey is heading toward the gulf coast of texas. harvey is expected to make landfall later today as a category 3 storm. this is galveston in an area where this storm could make a
direct hit. lots of rain and ominous feeling for many people if they are still there right now. abc janay norman reports, people in texas are preparing for widespread flooding. >> reporter: hurricane harvey heading toward the texas coastline, winds whipping 100 miles per hour. the storms setting its sights on south texas. people in the bulls eye swarming stores and stockpiling essentials. >> there's no more water. >> reporter: cars lining up for hours to fill up on gas. many people leaving home as harvey is expected to drown parts of the south dousing areas with more than 35 inches of rain and storm surges up to 12 feet. >> we're going to in the strongest possible terms to encourage the residents in the low-lying areas to get out of
dodge. >> reporter: images from nasa show the size of the storm. forecasters say harvey is intensifying faster than previously predicted. the hurricane center said it's possible that the storm could stay inland for 72 hours. one her i have saying the risks are too great not to get out now. >> i'm not going to send a boat out there after you're asked to leave. i'm not going to put my deputy's lives on the line to get you out. so you're on your own. >> reporter: the entire county could feel the impact because of gas prices. more than a dozen refineries are in the storm's path and some will be closed until harvey passes. in washington, jen anyway norman, channel 6 "action news." >> new on "action news" authorities in camden county say snap chat saved a sex assault
victim. police arrested mason malon this past saturday. a friend called police after she saw the victim on the snap chat post. police found the victim disoriented and bruised and covered in blood. the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. outraged residents in bucks county held a town hall meeting to address racist graffiti that read none black school. the meeting hosted by peace center in bucks county aimed to teach parents to talk about racism and hate to their children. the eagles won a high scoring preseason game at lincoln financial field. carson wentz looks like he is ready for the regular season. eagles took an early lead on a
miami fumble. the real m.v.p. might have been the squirrel he jumped through leaps and bounds. it looks terrified. eagles win 38-31. the birds are 2-1 the preseason and finished the early campaign on the roads wednesday night. philadelphia soul host the tampa bay storm arena bowl 30 at the wells fargo center. >> my family nickname is squirrel i'm always going in multiple directions. >> i never knew that i knew other names about you. >> my son was at the game, i'm sure when i talk to him, it will be mom, you were on the field. >> new on "action news," a

activity, so it's not humid. wind out of the north at 8, the ocean temperature, 73. as we go through the day it's nice, partly sunny skies all the way. 71 degrees by 10:00. 75 by noon, high of 79 degrees at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, comfortable. high temperatures across the region, a lot of upper 70s in allentown, reading, trenton, philadelphia, dover, 81 in millville. 78 degrees in cape may. 76 on the boardwalk in atlantic city. a little bit cooler there. for the phillies tonight we've got the cubs in town, 76 for the first pitch 70 in the 9th inning. hurricane harvey is 210 miles southeast of corpus christi it has generated into a category 2 storm, looks like it could be a 3 when it makes landfall and degenerates into a tropical storm and moves east. it will be a major rainmaker

his son's service to our country. navy identified the second sailor who turned out to be from connecticut. it's not known when they will be brought back to the u.s. a principal in south carolina is accused of fat shaming her students. she told leggings made them look fat unless they are a size zero or 2. heather taylor was holding an assembly about the dress code at the time. the school policy bans the stretch pants. taylor shared a facebook post asking parents to reach out directly to her with their concerns. amazon is moving quickly to make big changes at whole foods now that the byout -- buy out is happening. traffic is up next.
