and ... as the potential for winter weather looms ... storm team ten is tracking the latest system impacting southwest virginia. good evening, and thanks for joining us for wsls 10 at seven. i'm lindsey ward. dawn is on assignment. we start out tonight with the potential for some winter weather. parts of our area have already started seeing flurries. this is video from blacksburg ... as you can see there's a dusting of snow on the sidewalks and the roads. to bring us up to speed on what we can expect ... storm team ten chief meteorologist jeff haniewich joins us now. jeff ... a strong clipper-type system started to impact the region on monday, bringing some scattered rain and snow showers. as we turn colder tonight, any leftover precipitation will be snow showers. that said, tonight, the precipitation should be pretty isolated in nature, with

again tomorrow in the mountains. tonight: mostly cloudy with snow showers possible, especially in the mountains. pretty cold with lows in the upper 20s. tuesday: mainly cloudy with snow showers possible, mainly in the mountains. chilly and breezy with highs in the upper 30s. we may still have the chance for some upslope west slope snow showers lingering into wednesday. other wednesday will be mostly cloudy and cold the lower 30s. as far as accumulations through wednesday, here's what we are thinking: west slope areas mainly in

host doctor phil mcgraw. david lovell flew to los angeles over the weekend to tape this episode. doctor phil says ..the social media aspect and the loss of life sparked his interest in the case. wsls 10's dawn jefferies talked to doctor phil from his los angeles studio this afternoon about social media's impact and the role he says parents need to take. dr. phil/talk show host - "if you can tell your children the tools that a predator will use to groom them and you can make them aware perhaps you inoculate them some. so i think you have to teach them the tools of the predator and to do that you have to know what they are. but then i think you have to shadow your child on the internet and they're talking to." you can watch doctor phil's complete interview with david lovell wednesday at 4 right here on wsls 10. jury selection began today in

she's charged with child abuse and neglect. noah thomas ... white's son ... was found dead in a septic tank back in march. wsls 10's bethany teague was in the courtroom all day and has the latest. court is in recess until tomorrow morning. there was talk about going as long into tonight as it took to seat a final jury, but ultimately the judge decided to finish tomorrow. so far, 15 jurors have been selected. tomorrow morning, an additional seven will be selected as well. that makes a total of 22. however, both the defense and prosecution will then get four strikes each. that will bring the jury down to 12 members and two alternates. the lawyers have been working since before 11 o'clock this morning just to get the 15 that they have so far. around 50% of the potential jurors were sent home. many stated that they had already made up their minds that ashley white was guilty. other said that white must prove to them that she is innocent, rather than the prosecution proving that she is guilty, as the law states it

celebrate the 13-year-old's life and show support to her family during this extremely difficult time. college avenue has always been a come together as one. guest speakers, a moment of silence by candlelight and other activities will be done to honor nicole lovell. claire kelling / organizer - "we have blue ribbons to support the family the town is going to be lit up with blue lights has blue is nicole's favorite color. we want as many support. for nicole and her family." tonight's vigil takes place at college avenue between north main street and draper road.

a former bedford police officer is arrested in henry county following a 10 month investigation. the bedford county sheriff's office says ... deputies arrested 54- year-old brian mcalexander on friday. a grand jury indicted mcalexander for possession of child pornography. wsls 10's ananda rochita spoke to the bedford police chief about the incident. ananda rochita - "we reached out to the bedford police chief after a grand jury indicted a former officer on possession of child pornography." todd foreman/bedfor d police department - "it's very disappointing and it's upsetting." chief foreman says trust is on the line ... which is why he let the public know about the investigation when it began last year. todd foreman/bedfor d police department - "we wanted to be transparent with people in the town so they knew what was going on ..." southern virginia internet crimes against children task force investigated this case. lt. mike harmony with southern virginia icac says he can't release a lot of details ... but says mcalexander was the target of an

file sharing programs. lt. mike harmony/southe rn virginia icac - "it's sad i can tell you that much. anytime that someone who is in the eye of the public and has the faith of the public betrays that it's sad." ananda rochita - mcalexander has not been found guilty. he served in the bedford police department for more than 25 years and was promoted months before he resigned over the investigation. in bedford ananda rochita wsls 10. new tonight at 7 ... a 19-year-old man is dead following a motorcycle crash in lynchburg. the lynchburg police department says ... the crash happened around eight friday night in the 26-hundred block of lakeside drive. investigators say ... carter craft lost control of the motorcycle he was driving in the parking lot of the billy craft chrysler dealership. when craft lost control ... police say ... he ended up on lakeside drive. craft was taken to lynchburg general hospital and later moved to roanoke memorial hospital. he died sunday night.

we now know the cause of a fire that left a bedford county family without a home. the county fire marshall says ... burning leaves started a fire on declaration terrace last night. investigators say ... a match used to start a propane grill caught the leaves on fire. the fire then spread to the deck and house. two people and a dog got out safely. the house and two cars are a total loss. damages are likely to exceed 200-thousand dollars. turning now to political coverage ... with just one day until the new hampshire primary ... the focus is not just who wins ... but which republican candidate comes in second and how well hillary clinton fairs. volunteers were out today trying to win support from voters in new hampshire. while some may know who they'll vote for ... others remain undecided. political experts say most voters don't make up their mind until the last minute. mark murray, nbc news senior political editor - "half of them, according to the last

until they very last few days, what about the last day? almost 20 percent made up their minds on that very last day." the latest polls show donald trump leading for the republican party and bernie sanders for the democrats. while presidential candidates gear up for tomorrow's primary ... this weekend, roanoke will decide which democratic candidate it wants running for mayor. and with no republican stepping forward ... the result is even more important. for candidate sherman lea... it's all or nothing. he'll be running for mayor in lieu of a seat on city council. to get involved in what the party voters have to cast their ballots in-person at the berglund center this saturday. though this primary is election apply. andrew cochran, roanoke general registrar - "they will be following some of the laws that govern regular elections. they have decided that you must be a registered voter and you must have the regular id that
