welcome to 10 news this morning. i'm allison kropff. welcome to 10 news this morning. i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. happening today..we'll get the first look at who voters would like to see in the white house. we're just hours away from the iowa caucuses. this will be the first time candidates will be judged by voters...and not by polls. 10news reporter emerald morrow is in-studio. emerald, the race is pretty tight right now. yeah, especially among the leading democratic candidates. right now--polls show hillary clinton

nearly tied... with clinton having a slight edge. and on the republican side...the gap is a little bigger, but still very close with trump leading cruz by 5 percentage points. but the polls are just predictors...and the final decision is in voters' hands. candidates are hoping voters will turn out in big numbers...although some say it's unlikely democrats will see the high turnout they had when president obama was running. so what does all this mean? this is the first voting event of the presidential election cycle...and it could give a boost to who comes out on top...and maybe end the hopes of those who do not. and it's important to all the candidates... because whoever comes out on top usually gets more publicity and fundraising dollars for later primaries. and spending time

candidates are trying to push people to get out of course, they've been all over social media...i'll be sharing putting out there coming up at 5:30. people living coastline are waking by powerful storms that turned deadly. in one case a tree fell on top of a car, killing the driver. take a look at this video out of los angeles county. you see the massive tree was uprooted by high winds. it fell on top of a van.. no one was hurt. another tree fell onto a house.. fortunately no reported when it came down. forecasters say winds reached gusts hour in some areas that same system some of california's mountains. take a look at this video of i-80 near the california, nevada

blizzard and white out conditions are blamed for a 25 car pileup that closed a portion of the interstate in both directions for three hours on sunday. right now, hillsborough county deputies are searching for two teens who escaped from a juvenile detention center in tampa. 18-year-old anthony bays and 17-year-old anthony cook, were being held for grand theft auto. deputies say they broke out of the falkenburg academy through a hole that had been cut in a chain link fence. crimestoppers is offering a three thousand dollar reward to anyone who can help find them. sarasota police are looking for the person they say hit and killed a man riding his bicycle and then drove off. this is a look at the bicycle after the crash. they say the man was hit on u-s 301 between 6th and 8th street sunday night. officers believe the car involved is a toyota with front end damage. it's unknown what type of model it is. the world health organization will hold an emergency meeting today to figure out how to battle the zika virus. the zika virus, which is spread through mosquitoes and is linked to

classify the outbreak now in 25 countries and territories as a quote, "a public health emergency of international concern." right now, two virginia tech students are being held without bond for the death of a 13-year-old girl. police say david eisenhauer abducted nicole lovell. they also say that natalie keepers helped him move her body near a north carolina highway 90 miles from her home. this news of the investigation is sending shockwaves throughout the community. nicole's facebook page shows she was a member of at least one teen dating site, but police haven't eisenhauer first met. police have not released details about how or why she was killed. people who ride york are asked to be on high alert. so far this year, six people have been slashed. the most recent sunday. to be o-k.

arrested, but police are still looking for others. if you've ever sat in traffic on your way to clearwater beach, you'll be interested in this story. you know how frustrating it can be to creep ever so slowly along the clearwater memorial causeway. then you finally get to the beach and the streets there are congested too. today the city council will talk about new ways to fix the big traffic issues. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live in clearwater beach. sarah, one idea is to move traffic to the sky? that's right. during peak times, the streets are packed, the ferry jammed-- but the air is wide open. that's why a new gondola elevated cable car is getting a lot of attention. take a look. this is what the new gondolas would look like. just imagine riding up here while all the folks below you are stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. the ride would take about 10-15 minutes from downtown clearwater to the

here's what i'm digging into next--there are a lot of new hotels and businesses coming to the beach. that means more traffic and worse-- a harder time finding a parking spot. i'm digging into what the city is doing to help with parking and will have that at 5-30. sarah hollenbeck 10news wtsp today, we're expected to learn more about what caused an amtrak train to de-rail in philadelphia. eight people were killed, and 200 others injured. you may remember this scene from may of 2015. the n-t-s-b will release a two- thousand page document including data from the black box and key interviews with engineers. the train appeared to have taken a sharp curve at more than twice the speed limit. as the drinking water crisis in flint, michigan continues, people there are being urged to take action. the city is asking for those affected to have their water tested for lead levels. the city says a state lab analyzing lead levels of tap water is operating around the clock and can process one thousand tests a day. meanwhile, the
