this morning. i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. we're just a few days away from the highly anticipated florida primary. and during the republican debate in miami...candidates made one of their final pushes for your vote. 10news reporter emerald morrow is live in the satellite center. emerald, this is really the first time the candidates put the bickering to the side and really drilled down on policy. yeah, it was a big difference from the jabs and bickering

between the candidates on the stage. and one of the first times we see donald trump shy away from the yelling and name-calling he's been known for in the debates. some of the big issues that came up last night?? social security, immigration and foreign policy were among the biggest. on social security...rubio criticized trump, saying his numbers just don't add up. this was while defending his own stance of wanting to push back the retirement age to 70. and on foreign policy...trump stood by his controversial comments about islam hating america... while cruz talked about the need to patch up our legal immigration system so that it fits the needs of the american economy. there's been a lot of talk about how the republican party will define itself amid all the division...and as the potential front- runner...here's what trump had to say.

just download the "10news wtsp app"-- in your phone's app store. developing this morning... police say they have a man in custody after he made threats the the u-s embassy in berlin. police say the man claimed to have a bomb inside a suitcase as he was trying to get into the embassy, when police started to investigate, he became violent and tried fighting with them. the area has been cleared and a police robot was used to look into the bag. the man's identity has not been released. a funeral will be held today in simi valley, california for nancy reagan. the former first lady died this week at the age of 94. first lady michelle obama as well as former first ladies hillary clinton and laura bush will be among those in attendance. more than 5000 people paid their respects to mrs. reagan as she lay in repose tuesday and wednesday. right now, people in louisiana are keeping a close eye on levees after heavy rains all week. a state of emergency has been declared in several areas including bossier parrish

guard has been called in to help with water rescues. thousands of people have been evacuated ahead of what could be even more of a disaster if a nearby levee overflows. these storms have killed five people and more storms are on the way to areas that have already been hit hard. get ready for fast cars, world class drivers and the constant hum of race cars in downtown st pete. the firestone grand prix kicks off today. with an estimated economic impact of $48 million bucks, the event is a big money maker for downtown st pete. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live in downtown st pete. sarah, in past years not everyone has been thrilled with the race. yes, while hotels are booked and restaurants swamped, retail

appealing to a federal court to allow them to file a lawsuit against the country of saudi arabia. this after a lower court ruled the nation could not be a defendant. those families say 15 of the 19 hijackers on that day in 2001 were from saudi arabia and want the country to be held liable. a manhattan judge says saudi arabia is protected by sovereign immunity. today marks five years since an earthquake and tsunami killed nearly 16 thousand people in japan. 25 hundred people are still missing. a nationwide moment of silence was held this morning to honor the victims. walls of water 30 feet high or more devastated towns and villages. the disaster also caused a partial meltdown at the fukushima nuclear power plant. some good news for states like florida with multiple cases of zika. u.s. health leaders say a vaccine for the virus could be ready for testing this fall. the mosquito born virus is hitting puerto rico very hard. in that area -- there are concerns that thousands of pregnant women could be infected this year. zika has been linked to a birth

backyard gathering near pittsburgh. police believe one or the two victims may have been targeted. one man and four women were killed. one of the women was eight months pregnant. the man who is known as the dog whisperer is now under investigation for possible animal cruelty. t-m-z is reporting is the l.a. county animal control has received several complaints against cesar millan. this stems from show "cesar 911." the episode reportedly shows a dog attacking and hurting a pig during a training session. as of right now, investigators have questioned the t-v star and his employees. they plan to show their findings to the d-a. if you're worried about getting alzheimer's when you're older...there's a simple way to reduce the risk of the disease. doctors say physical activity is key. that's according to researchers at ucla and the university of pittsburgh. they found aerobic activities like walking, gardening or dancing can improve brain volume and reduce the chances of developing alzheimer's by up to 50 percent.
