suspect on l street northwest. officers then chased the suspect to benning road northeast where tht suspect was taken into custody. we don't know if any officers were injured in that case. the other breaking news story is that a man was hit by a car on eighth street near howard university. his condition is not known right now. we have learned in the past few minutes that the car that hit the man stayed on the scene. crash investigators are also there. >> ♪ >> today a d.c. based marijuana advocacy group is planning a marijuana protest targeting congress. the d.c. cannabis campaign is the same group hm hosted a marijuana give away durings nauseous weekend. 93 plan to offer free marijuana outside the u.s. capitol. today's protest leads up to monday april 24th and that's when the group plans to smoke marijuana on federal grounds which is illegal. activists say they expect to be arrested but their goal is to normalize the use of marijuana and end of federal prohibition on cannabis. >> arlington county s.w.a.t. team wil

training exercise today a joint exercise with federal officials at the wilson building. the train willing simulate an emergency situation and a coordinated response by law enforcement. it starts at 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 this afternoon. all train and activities will be confined to inside the wilson. >> metro must make major funding changes to keep the trains and buses in service. general manager paul wiedefeld says metro needs $15.5 billion over the in extend years. he's looking to local governments for that money. he says labor costs need to be cut in order to avoid a budget crisis. wiedefeld says metro should have the flexibility to outsource some operations. many of the changes wiedefeld wants to make will be tough because they will require approval by state and local governments in the areas metro serves. wiedefeld will be live on fox news this morning at 8:30 a.m. to talk more about the proposal. >> d.c. gravers about to get new licenses. the latest d.c. driver's license says district of columbia along the top. starting in june the d.c. department of motor vehicles

washington, d.c. they're also making the change on license plates. it comes after several d.c. residents were stopped and questioned at airports because t.s.a. agents didn't recognize their id's. the d.c. dmv hopes the change will clear up confusion over what the district of columbia actually means. if you have one of those licenses, it will still remain valid until it expires. >> let's talk about a fox5 exclusive in the district an ambulances never showed up after a mother called 911 for her two-year-old son o paulette liverpool says she waited more than 20 minutes but the ambulance never came. a 911 dispatcher sent it to the wrong address by mistake. the mother says her toddler was in the middle of a severe asthma attack. she had to drive her son to the hospital herself. >> i don't like to think the worse, you know, but somebody had to be accountable for that and it's not like i'm trying to cause this big chaos. at a a

level i love my kids to death. what happened to that that call? what -- i mean, nobody even called to say that where are we, we're at the wrong place. nobody called back at all. >> the. >> the d.c. office of unified communication says it takes responsibility for that many mistake and that it's conducting an investigation. >> over to montgomery county police they're saying a man tried to abduct two children and exposed himself to a 13-year-old girl on easter sunday. police say two boys were playing tap neighborhood park in white oak when jemberu bekele geda approached and tried to take them back to his apartment. earlier that day in the same neighborhood police say geda exposed him himself to a teenagd girl. >> they told me about this man. there is st something wrong with the man. he was always playing with the kids and if he have like money give to it them or food or something like that. >> geda has been charged with one count of indecent exposure. he's order held without bond. >> turning our attention to sports and the

o'reilly. he was the host of the o'reilly factor since fox news began in 1996. tucker carlson will take over that 8:00 p.m. time slot starting on monday. in a statement bill o'reilly wrote over the past 20 years at fox news i have been extremely proud to launch and lead one of the most successful news programs in history. which has consistently informed and entertained millions of americans and significantly contributed to building fox into the dominant news network in television. he called the circumstances surrounding his firing tremendously disheartening. now to the latest on the suicide of aaron hernandez. we have learned that before the former new england patriots star killed himself he wrote the bible verse john 3:16 on his forehead and smoked synthetic marijuana. hernandez was found hanging in his prison cell yesterday morning. he was serving a life sentence for the shooting death of odin lloyd in 2013 and was recently acquitted from a double

trial. president trump has signed a bill that would let veterans seek care outside of the troubled va system. the veteran's choice improvement act removes barriers. lawmakers created the choice program 2014 after a massive scandal involving wait time coverups at more than 100va facilities around the country. one high profile congressman says he won't run for reelection. utah representative jason chaffetz rumored to be a possible candidate for senator or governor but says he's decided to not run for any moves in 2008 teach he hm drama over his comments suggesting that people should spend their money on health insurance instead of iphones. and tennis superstar serena williams is going to be a mom. this will be the first child for williams and her fiancé alexis oh lanian who is the co-founder of reddit. williams told her fans by posting this picture with the caption that read 20 weeks on snapchat. i say that is good for the

>> i get that impression. we have pretty good weather coming our way today. 80's later this afternoon but we'll have to dodge a couple of showers and maybe some thunderstorms as well as we head into those early evening hours. maybe a couple showers as well early this morning. futurecast we do have a cluster of showers coming through the maryland panhandle. futurecast not picking up on it too well. i'm concerned we get an early shower before we clear the clouds out. back to the sun early afternoon, lunchtime hour should be fine and dry with the sun coming out and things really warming up. we work our way into those early evening hours though. we see a little instability build. we could get a thunderstorm. better chances down to the south. don't be shocked if you hear a rumble of thunder later today. not expecting any severe weather. 83 degrees later today. tomorrow kind of a repeat of today. same high, 83 degrees. saturday cooler with showers moving in during the afternoon hours. then rain it looks like most of the day on sunday so weekend at this point is not looking too great. enjoy the next two days. that's a check of the forecast. over to erin como for traffic.

on 95 we have a southbound 95 crash on the ramp to the icc so caution there. the good news is volume is light enough and lanes are still opened so you can still access the exit ramp to the icc and 95 southbound not backing up. things looking good on 29. problem free on route one as well as baltimore-washington parkway. let's forward our maps and show you what else you're up again. really good drive times on 95 from virginia. 50 coming in from maryland as well as the top of the beltway outer loop and inner loop bottom of the beltway. any questions at erin fox5 d.c. on twitter. back to you, wisdom and maureen. >> 4:48 is the time and this morning some security changes at the white house. >> the secret service has closed down public access to a sidewalk in front of the white house. fox5's melanie alnwick joins us live there with the details on how long it's going to be closed. mel. >> reporter: hey, good morning, guys. from what we understand this is indefinite. we want to give you a sense of where we are here. the ellipse is right behind me. the washington monument right there. and then this is the sidewalk that we're

here pretty much along e street. this is going to remain opened, this part of it, but you will not be able to then get over across to the fence closest to the white house there. and that is the big change. it used to be that you could get across this street after 6:00 in the morning. this is -- that closure had been in place since 2015. now, this is as far as you're going to get right here also to the zero marker as well. this is pretty much going to be your best access point now. the secret service says this is all part of an ongoing review of permanent and temporary security measures. now, last year you may recall the secret service added taller spikes on the fence to prevent jumpers. there are plans to make it stronger while keeping with historical authenticity. but march jumpers continue to happen. march tenth a man roamed the grounds 17 minutes before that being arrested. this is the latest i

since about 2014. in making this change the secret service said this in a statement "that restricting the public access to the fence line will celebs the possibility of people getting onto the grounds." also saying it will create that clear visual break that allows secret service officers to identify and respond to potential hazards including people trying to scale the fence and the secret service did say that the change doesn't really affect the and ability of people to be table autoableto view the white house. many lawmakers in the past have been very adamant that they need to make sure that public access is not restricted while they are trying to beef up security. live in front of the white house, i'm melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> all right, mel, thank you very much. 4:50 is the time. also new this morning a lawsuit has been filed
