a 16-month-old bade is in critical condition after being found in a bathtub at a home in sterling. >> "fox5" evan lambert is headed to the scene tonight. evan what knew information what do we know what happened here? >> shawn, tony, investigators in loudoun county are calling this a near drowning. i finished checking with them about 0 minutes ago. they say their detectives are at the hospital waiting to ib view the parents. as you can imagine, they're dealing with this right now, very tough situation. their 16-month-old bade boy in critical condition at this hour. and after a call came in, several hours ago. around 12:00 this afternoon reporting that that child was found unconscious in a bathtub with water in it. and in cardiac arrest. at this point it's unclear if this was an accident, if 24 was a terrible accident or if this was possible abuse. right now, though, loudoun county sheriff office is

charges at this time. and they do, again, have detectives on scene at the hospital that the child had to be thrown to in fairfax country to interview those parents. we're headed out to that neighborhood to try to get more information and we'll provide you with updates throughout the night. back to you. >> evan. thank you. >> all right now we attorney deadly church shooting in texas. police believe a tense relationship between the suspected shooter and mother-in-law led to the shooting at the first baptist church in sutherland springs. >> investigators say devin kelly killed 26 people and injured twelve others during morning worship before running from the church and killing himself. >> anjali hemphill is live with how local churches are ramping up security in the wake of sunday's attack. >> we begin with korey kauffman on the latest in the investigation. korey. >> investigators investigating that he sent threatening text messages to his mother-in

before the attack. his mother-in-law went to the church but was not there when wearing a ballistic investigate and tactical gear and gunned down 6 people including 18-month-old baby. would was there? steven willford living cross the street heard he what was going on and armed himself and fepded him off by shooting h him. willford jumped into john write langford truck and chased after him. >> i did what i thought i needed to do which was they said there was a shooting. i per sued and i did what i thought was the right thing. >> kelly called his father before shooting himself and killing himself with hand gun in his vehicle. in total callly had three guns with him and now investigators are looking into the former air force member's past. kelly was court maritaled in 2012 for ault saving his wife and child and spent a year in

military prison. he was discharged and would not be able to carry if dishonestly dischargedment. he had a private security license. authorities noted nothing disqualifying in background check required for kelley to purchase firearms but was denied a license to carry by the state of texas. they're still investigating at this point. guys. >> thank you, korey, meantime shooting at the church has people questioning whether their houses are worship are safe. area townships are looking ot church security. it's a program called worship watch and happening now in virginia. lockdown and even severe weather. the rest of this property is lined with security cameras inside and outside the building and many of the doors here at this church involve a key card to get access inside. take a look. this is reverend steven holly who says they implemented all these safety measures one by one starting after the sandy hook mass shooting that happened many years going they now have the technology to monitor who comes in and out of church property which also i might add includes a school here. many other churches like this one work closely with local employment on developing thorough receivety and security plan that the staff practices on a regular basis. reverend holly encourages all churches to have a similar plan in place and also be aware of who in their own congregation could help. since 9/11 law enforcement carry usually 24/7 and we

who they are in the congregation and so, we don't broadcast who they are to the rest of the church and so they're ready to assist and so we hope they never are called upon to. but, we feel protected. >>. we have a security team, safety and security team. but, our people are instrucked to listen o them and follow their instructions. certainly if a horrific event take place then it's to protect themselves as quickly as they possibly can, get down, get low, get safe and you know we tried to -- we cannot practice that on a sunday morning church but our team is practices and they go through the various scenarios and so they're ready to address any situation. >> a lot of churches reach out to us and we reach out to them when we have crimes that happen. we're reaching out to churches today and a

these fine men held up a check cashing business in wheaton friday afternoon and led officers on a chase on inner loop and alleged robbers dmrooshd two other vehicles and the driver of the van 37-year-old one carlos gomez tried plea the scene and he was hit and killed by unmarked police cruiser pursuing suspect. police believe the group is responsible for two other robberies in september. >> and i'm sue palka. tem you what. something we have not seen in a while m a thunderstorm in all places that stretch of 95 between triangle and fredericksburg which is always so jammed up. we're seeing lightning down there and we've got this strong thunderstorm moving from west to east 5 miles an hour. might even have not only very heavy rain with it but possibly nickel sized hail with lightning crossing 95 n now. all this out ahead of frontal boundary about to cross our area. there's not a ton of rain. in fact that's probably the

they tend to going back and forth between republicans and democrats. however, here where we are tonight in fairfax country we're getting surprising information about how many people already voted and in person absent tee voting where some people call early voting and that is way up here in fairfax county. we spoke to registrar here earlier today. >> we finished saturday. our last person for in-person absent tee voting with almost 0,000 voters voting absent tee in person and total absent tee voters for 013 was just under 30,000. so we saw more people vote in person than we did entiretive absent tee voters four years ago. >> that's a big jump in the numbers ralph northam wrapping up campaign tonight in alexandria. we expect ed gillespie to be here at the bottom of this hour. for now live in fairfax, tom fitzgerald, "fox5 local news". >> tom, thank you very much.
