the murder mystery. all about iowa. the presidential candidates are making their final pitches before the hawkeye state votes in tonight's caucuses. >> plus look at this. this is not your typical traffic stop. watch what happens when a woman pulls over a police officer for speeding. good morning, i'm dan krauth, i'm sheli muniz. thanks for joining us this monday morning. we're starting off on a wet note here. >> we sure are. the radar looks very active. let's check in with ryan for your first alert forecast. >> good morning to you. sheli mentioned the first of february and our dry season continues to be very wet. another day battling through rain showers, at least to start the morning commute. by the afternoon we'll see some improvements. a healthy batch of shower east. in the two-county area, lingering showers into broward

595 is very wet as showers do continue here into the plan station area, back into davie and cooper city and pembroke pines, down towards sheridan and 75. some wet weather, also some wet weather traversing from west to east across miami beach and more to come here into ateast the interior locations of southwest miami-dade, keys very wet as well. here's the big picture. the highest shower chances coming on the front end of the day. by the afternoon some improvements. kicking off monday morning, wet for the commute in. i think by the time we get to the afternoon drive, we should see breaks in the clouds, first alert forecast high of 80. an umbrella and maybe sone patience on the roadways. here's kelly with an update. >> when there are wet roads, accidents keep popping up. that's the case in miami-dade. 836 eastbound, the ramp from 72nd avenue, you will have a left lane blocked off because of

give yrself extra time this morning. we also have a crash block the left lane on i-75 southbound as you are trying to ramp on to the palmetto expressway. an earlier car fire still has the intersection of galloway road and kendall drive, those southbound lanes completely blocked off. on the palmetto expressway, it's wet out there. give yourself extra time and pack that rain gear. >> good advice, thanks a lot. right off the top, decision 2016. we've been counting down to this for a while. the iowa caucuses. >> julia is back with the ndidates' last minute attempt to sway voters. it's crunch time. >> tonight is when iowa voters will gather in bars, basements and church halls to make the nation's first presidential picks. candidates made their last full-day push of companying yesterday. hillary clinton and bernie sanders locked in a tight race

clinton holds a slim lead over sanders. >> if there is a large turnout in caucuses all over the state, i believe we will win. i hope you will stand up for me. i hope you will fight for me. >> reporter: on the republican side, donald trump is still enjoying an edge over ted cruz. there's something else happening tonight that could be a game changer for both sides. a snowstorm expected to blow through the hawkeye state. that's adding some extra uncertainty to the races this morning. >> thanks a lot. she's controversial, you never know what exactly she'll say. ahead on "today," former alaska governor and one-time vice presidential candidate sarah palin will give her take on everything iowa. nbc news has crews across the hawkeye state. >> i'm matt lauer here in ames, iowa, home of the sigh cleanse. bernie sanders about to walk into this room and address a few hundred supporters.

[ cheers ] okay. anybody have not made up your mind yet? have not made up your mind yet anybody? all right. so there's some people who still have not made up their mind. we'll have complete coverage on "today." this morning a family is looking for answers after a south florida corrections officer was murdered inside his own home. michael spears is live outside the jail with the interview you will see only on 6. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, we just learned from the police benevolent association that today they plan on getting involved, not only with the family but also for a call for justice. the day before the corrections officer body was discovered inside his body, his home was burglarized. have a look at some video here, and picture we have of this 15-year veteran.

hall. he worked at the pretrial detention center behind us. he was found shot to death friday in his pembroke pines apartment a day after reporting his home was broken into. his mother told us he was shot in the chest. police have questions of their own as police continue to search this morning. we did speak with pembroke pines police, and they said they cannot believe whether his work as a corrections officer had anything do with his murder but his family telling us that that key detail that his home was broken into before has them interested, and it's possible he knew what he did for a living, next day they came back and targeted him. >> he was found dead in his apartment, that's an obvious concern. anyone who works in any law enforcement capacity, thiss always a possible. >> reporter: now, his mother tells us thisis is not the first time tragedy struck their family.

reason hall went into thh line of work. you'll hear more from her ahead at 6:00 a.m. in the meantime, the search is still on for whoever shot this orrections officer. police say if you know anything, give detectives a call or call crime stoppers, 954-493-tips. live in miami, michael spears, nbc 6 news. this morning, the family of a man killed over a parking spot is looking for justice. miami police continue to find the man who gunned down jackson solis in an argument that witnesses say started over a parking space. friends and family gathered on saturday night remembering the 33-year-old father. all police are telling us is that they're looking for a

perhaps a ford f150. records obtained by t t palm beach post show deputy andrew cano has been the subject of 15 use of force investigations and was cleared each time. a spokperson for the sheriff's office said he was reassigned and came back to work ten days after the january 16th shooting in bell glade. investigators say the suspect, henry bennett, poinind a gun at deppy. prosecutors will decide whether to file criminal charges. >> eating your bust, leaving me behind, you were going 80 miles per hour, i want to know what is the emergency. a miami driver turns the tables on a miami police officer pulling him over for speeding. >> erika glover has more, this story is a big talker on social media. >> reporter: this story is trending all over social medi we've seen the blue flashing

rearview mirrors, but this story has a twist. that's because the woman who captured this cell phone video says the officer she was following was pushing about 90 miles per hour. check out the video. it was taken moments before she confronts s e officer for his alleged speeding. >> the reason i pulled you over today and i'm asking you to come over and have a conversation is because i saw you since miller drive, when you were first jumping on to the palmetto, and you were pushing 90 miles per hour. if i was to do something like he was doing, not only am i endangering traffic, not only is he enenngering traffic, he's really abusing the uniform. >> reporter: the miami-dade police department released this statement that says the miami-dade police department will have immediate command staff investigate the matter once the officer and citizen are identified. the appropriate course of action will be taken at that point. the officer says he did not know he was speeding and that he was

four cars in san diegohat tree's trunk measured eight feet across. forecasters warn the storm could trigger flooding and mud flows in some%places, elsewhere, look what happened on interstate 80 near the town of truckee west of the nevada border. it's where the california highway patrol says four semi trucks and 25 other cars smashed into a snowy pile up. there were no deaths in the crashes, but it's unclear how many people are hurt. still ahead, we'll show you what else is coming to light in the wake of that deadly storm. dan and sheli? all right. kicking things off with south florida's only live radar on the air, that's first alert doppler. active pattern so far this morning. earlier this morning showers

sections of b boward county and miami-dade, racing off to the east. now that batch is gone. we have more showers building in. roads are wet. i think that will be the case leading into the morning drive. no worries of any severe weather or thunderstorm activity. i think that will be isolated in nature. here's what we're looking at. don't forget, you can get this any time on the free mobile app. instant download to your android or apple application. tablet or smartphone. check the radar and see what's going on. i want to show you in miaia-dade county, the batch of showers racing off away from the beaches, roadways are wet. another round coming in for the next hour or so, down towards kendall area, along the done shula, pretty wet here, a good cluster of rain racing off to the east. this will clip pinecrest, coral gables in the next 10, 15 minutes. another patch just across the interior sections of miami-dade county will race off to the east as well. impacting the turnpike.

though that shield of activity moving off to the east. isolated pockets of rain moving back in in the wake. margate, tamarac, coral state parkway, anothtr batch moving in. more moisture down through the keys and miami-dade county. a better look at this even though the rains have not been overly heavy through the lower middle keys, it's been a persistent rain since 2:00 or so here's what we're looking at in terms of headlines. he rain with us this morning. it will taper off this afternoon. again, seeing some improvements as we go. warmer weather will be in place this time around. we enjoyed cooler weather last week and into the weekend. that's fleeting at this point. at the bus stop this morning, banking on some showers being around.

not much sun this morning but into the afternoon hours improving conditions. a live look at miami, visible is okay. don't h hve any active shower activity. temperatures settled back into he lower 70s. waves of rain showers will move through the area first thing this morning. once we kick this disturbance off to the east, improving conditions will greet us for our monday afternoon. just our monday morning, umbrella weather and a little extra time on the drive in. showers begin to ease after the lunch hour, sunshine late in the day, first alert forecast high of 80. it's the wettest day of the work week. we'll warm things up, dry things out foreground hog day, same for wednesday, 81. a shower chance on friday, otherwise looking forward to next weekend, highs in the upper 70s with dry conditions. 5:47, back to traffic and kelly. >> good monday morning to you. thank you so much for joining us. looking at your drive, this is the palmetto expressway, northbound and southbound lanes

taking you to the palmetto, as you can see, it's wet out there, busy out there as well. this is on the palmetto just as you're approaching northwest 122nd street. now, we do have accidents, especially in miami-dade. let's go ahead and take to you our maps, 836 east on that ramp from 72nd avenue, a crash with injuries there blocking a left lane on that ramp. just be mindful of that making your way out the door a crash on 75 southbound as you'rerying to ramp on to the pal met to stick to the right-hand side. the left lane is blocked off. doesn't seem to be causing many delays. an earlier car fire has the southbound lanes of calloway road at kendall drive blocked off. this crash on the palmetto around northwest 74th street. directions unknown, whether it's southbound or northbound. i will make some phone calls and find out which direction, in this is affecting. i will be tweeting that out and i'll keep you posted on air in a couple minutes.

police believe two virginia tech students are behind the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old girl. the girl's body was found over the weekend in north carolina after her parents last saw her on tuesday. now david eisenhauer is in jail and natalie marie keers are charged for allegedly helping him get rid of the body. police are working to figure out how they knew this 13-year-old girl. later today, federal investigators are expected to release evidence and reports on the cause of a deadly train derailment in philadelphia. the accident last may killed eight people and injured 200 others after the train streaked into a sharp curve at double the speed limit. the national transportation safety board has yet to say why the train was going so fast as it rounded that curve. all eyes will be on a pennsylvania courtroom this week as bill cosby and his attorneys try to get the criminal sexual assault case against him thrown out. here's kristen dahlgren with a preview of what we can expect. >> reporter: bill cosby will be back in a pennsylvania criminal

but his lawyers say it should be for the last time. attorneys for the comedian claim the former district attorney made a deal years ago not to prosecute cosby in exchange for his deposition in a civil case, brought by accuser andrea constan. the current d.a. says there is no evidence of that written agreement. >> reporter: in the 2005 obtaining quaaludes to give to women he wanted to have sex with. at the time d.a. bruce castor did not charge him with a crime. >> i remember thinking he probably did something inappropriate, thinking thax and proving it are two different things. >> reporter: castor is expected to testify at tuesday's hearing, but cosby's lawyer at the time has since passed away. according to his current attorneys, critical evidence of the agreement has been lost. cosby has been charged with

aggravated indecent assault for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting constan in his pennsylvania home in 2004. she is one of more than 50 women who have accused him of sexuaa misconduct. his lawyers have denied the allegations and vow to fight them all. e next round scheduled for tuesday when it will be up to a judde to say whether the criminal case against the man once known as america's dad will ever make it to trial. kristen dahlgren, nbc news, new york. facebook and instagram now getting involved in the dbate over gun control. they are now banning gun sales from their sites. a new policy prohibits people from advertising or selling firearms on the world's largest social networks. licensed g g retailers will still be ableleo advertise their businesses on facebook, when it comes to accepting orders or sales on the site, they won't be able to do that. e ban a big move for the company which has been pressured by gun control advocates to do more to stop these sales.

fraternity in disbelief that one of their broers is gone after a tragic accident. the student was from right here in south florida. gainesville police are looking into his death. he's 20 years old, and his name was chance wolf. he was from weston and he fell six stories from an apartment complex near gainesville. police tried to saa him but he died at the hospital. cops watched surveillance video from this incident, they say it shows wolf walked out of the sixth floor elevator, down a hallway and fell over a waist-high glass dividerer cuba is going online. they're launching their first broadband home internet service the telecommunications country said it would allow cubans to order service through fiberoptic connections. the new service is a pilot project and prices will be announced in the nearfuture. currently foreign firms in cuba pay hundreds of dollars a month
