you in harm's way, but hitting one... that'll hit your wallet... hard. in fact: a new survey shows: potholes cost american drivers about three-billion dollars a year for repairs. so... how do you handle them? 3 ((jen fox-13's shayla reaves is on the story for us... shayla, this is an especially big problem in our area, since we get so much rain, and deal with so much heat. how can we minimize the damage?(take remote full) 3 3

3 thanks, shayla. 3 3 (walter) new this morning: a former college football player is behind bars in pinellas county... he's accused of trying to have sex... with a minor. 3 (walter pinellas deputies arrested 23-year-old mackenzie "mack" crowder last night, as part of "operation wayfarer." it's a sting operation, targeting men who were seeking underage girls online... for sex. investigators say: crowder was talking online with someone he *thought was a

allegedly sent at least *four explicit photos to the person.. they say crowder made plans to meet with the girl in pinellas county... and he met deputies instead. crowder played four seasons at tennessee... as an offensive lineman. 3 3 (jen) we checked this morning and the woman accused of hitting and killing a tow truck driver with her car, remains in the pinellas county jail. 3 (jen a pinellas county judge set 36-year-old "allison huffman's" bond at 750- thousand dollars, during her first court appearance tuesday. investigators say: she hit "roger perez-burroto" on the howard frankland bridge, early monday morning, while he was trying to tow a stranded couple's car. huffman *admitted to the accident, and told troopers: she kept driving because she was "scared." the victim's sister was in court for the hearing. she says: given huffman's driving history.... of three prior d-u-i's... she had no business being on the road. 3 "i really hope it sinks in what she did. i know we all make mistakes. but i hope she realizes the pain she's
5:07 am
3 law enforcement agencies across the bay area spent all of monday searching for huffman. that night, a friend turned her in, when she showed up at his st. pete apartment. 3 (walter) now other tow truck drivers are hoping *all drivers realize just how *dangerous their job is... and they're urging everyone to obey the "move over law"... it's there for a reason... to keep emergency workers safe. but tow-truck operators say: drivers really only pay attention, when it's law enforcement on the shoulder. 3 "all you have to do is give those people on the side of the road common courtesy." "use caution, that's what we ask you to do. let us go home." --walter/ 3 the law *requires drivers to move over one lane, or slow down to 20-miles *below the posted speed limit, when they see flashing emergency lights... of *any kind. if you don't, you could be fined 120-dollars and get three-points on your license. 3
5:08 am
(walter) today, hillsborough county leaders will focus on the zika virus... and how best to fight it. (jen) they could approve nearly half a million dollars in aid to combat the mosquito-borne illness. 3 (jen the zika virus is primarily spread by mosquitoes... today, the commission is expected to add nearly half-a-million dollars to the "public works department" budget, for additional mosquito *surveillance and *spraying. so far, there haven't been any cases in the u-s, spread by mosquitoes... they've all come from *travel... to infected areas in the caribbean and south america. international university" caught the virus on a mission sick, after he got home... and now, he's talking about it. 3 "so i was playing soccer and then all of a sudden i felt this huge, huge headache; strongest headache i've ever noticed a rash on my face. my girlfriend actually told me, "what is this on your face?" and i just brushed it off. and
5:09 am
3 --jen/ "christoph" was treated, and is now virus-free. health experts think the zika virus can be stopped... but they might have to use controversial methods, like "genetically modified mosquitoes" to wipe it out. 3 3 (jen) finally, after weeks of wondering, we should find out today... who won part of that huge powerball jackpot last month.(walter) we know the ticket was sold on the east coast... now lottery officials are going to announce who bought it. 3 (walter the ticket was sold at a publix in melbourne beach. the person who bought it will take home part of the record one-point-six *billion dollar powerball jackpot. you remember... the one everyone was going crazy about a few weeks ago. the other winning tickets were sold in tennessee and california. 3 new this morning, a big honor for clearwater beach. trip-advisor named it one of the top beaches in the world! it ranked number 20... and
5:10 am
in the top 25. as far as u-s rankings go... clearwater beach ranked first. siesta key beach came in third on the list and st. pete beach came in fourth. 3 3 ((jen)) when the academy awards are handed out february 28th, the winners better take a good look at their trophies. ((walter)) the oscar... is changing! the movie makeover, when we come back. 3 ((walter and... they're honoring him in the supreme court chambers... but the battle over replacing justice antonin scalia... is getting cuthroat everywhere else. why *timing... is so important. 3

((walter)) debate continues this morning over the new vacancy on the u-s supreme court... and how quickly we should appoint a new justice. republicans want to wait until after the presidential election. but president barack obama says: there's more than enough time for the senate to consider anyone he may nominate... and he intends to move ahead with his choice. fox's jackie ibanez tells us: the timing is key... since it could change the high- court, and its decisions, for years.
5:14 am
3 president obama is not backing down from the fight to replace supreme court justice antonin scalia after his death. the republicans plan to block any nomination mister obama makes... and believe the next president should pick the nominee.sessions says: "so we're just not going to move this nominee because it's going to allow the next president to fill this seat. it's a decisive seat on the court." the president believes it is his prerogative to pick a replacement judge... and expects a fair senate hearing for his nomination.says: "the constitution is pretty clear about what is suppose to happen now. when there is a vacancy on the supreme court, the president of the united states is to nominate someone. the senate is to consider that nomination and either they disapprove of that nominee or that nominee is elevated to the supreme court. historical this has not been viewed as a question." the right is now pointing to a younger senator obama.... who filibustered president george w. bush's nomination of samuel alito. sessions says: "well he has been totally hypocritical and inconsistent on that. justice alito is a fabulous judge. he did a great job at the judiciary hearing. and he filibustered and tried to deny him a vote." but republicans have changed their position on nominations since bush's presidency... as they are now trying to prevent what they call a liberal activist judge. gingrich says: "nothing in american history requires the senate to approve the president's nomination. presidents don't appoint. they nominate."(on-cam tag) president obama says there is more than enough time to fill the vacancy before his term is

*original trophies, first given-out in 19-29. they're going to use digital scans and 3-d printers to do it. it's pretty high tech, and it took crews three-months to make all 50 statuettes. they're still the same dimensions... 13-and-a-half inches tall, eight-and-a-half pounds... and still plated in 24-karat gold... oh, and still hard to get! 3
