♪ >> live from center city in philadelphia this is fox 29 news at 10. developing to night a bizarre and deadly shooting in south jersey with evidence spread across two major highways and a wawa just look at the backup earlier tonight on the garden state parkway as investigators combed through one car involved in the incident. another bullet rid link a car outside egg harbor township wa wawa. the details are still developing but we know five people were shot and one of them was killed. good evening, i'm iain page. >> i'm dawn timmeney. lucy is off. now investigators are trying to peace together exactl exactlt happened here. fox 29's dave schratwieser is live at the state police barracks in hammonton tonight.

dave. >> reporter: dawn, wild scene out here at the expressway this afternoon with that shooting. state police say as man as manys three vehicles now may have been involved. they may be looking for that third vehicle. to night they shut down the eastbound lanes of the expressway for about 45 minutes while they looked for ballistic evidence on the highway. still no arrests to report. they continue to try and unravel this and look for a motive. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: crime scene investigators spent monday evening gathering evidence at this bullet riddled forward for expedition that pull into the parking lot at wawa off tilton road near the atlantic city airport with four people wounded inside. also shut down the ac expressway around 7:00 p.m. looking for evidence on the highway. >> i think it's scary. like i live literally five minutes not even from here, and just to hear about it it's cra crazy. >> it's all shot up. look at it, glass clothes on the floor. >> reporter: new jersey state police say the occupants of the

suv were victims of a gun battle just before 3:00 on the expressway. more than a dozen shots struck the moving suv. taking out the passenger side windows and rear tire. skyfox was overhead when second vehicle was found a few miles away on the garden state parkw parkway. one person there was found shot to death in that car. >> we don't have all the detai details. we believe at this point that the people involved in this shooting new each other. that this was not a random act. >> reporter: customers like ben at a morales and joe rosellely arrived at the wawa to see the bloody scene. they were stunned when they exited the store to see a swarm of police and ambulances. >> it's a disgrace that we have to go through all this here. crap like this. >> i feel sad for those people who were in there. when they young? were they old i don't know. >> reporter: state police recovered multiple weapons at a third location nearby. several guns were used in the exchange of gunfire. the victims were all men from the area. >> gunfire was being aimed at

spruce streets in camden. so if you know anything please give police call. fire crews still at the scene tonight putting out hot spots after a landmark church went up in flames. the century old church destroyed when fire ripped through the building in overbrook more than 100 firefighters fought the flames. crews had to race and side to help people to get to safety. fox 29's brad sattin reports that this is a huge loss to the community. i was in the shower, and the power went out are and the water got real hot so i got out. opened up the door, and couldn't -- couldn't see down the hallway at all. >> reporter: rick clemm to had to feel his way through thick smoke on a window then on the roof where he was rescued by firefighter, cell phone video showing the building engulfed by flames. he and five others were inside the church when the fire starter in the basement. everyone got out. as did this cat. found clinging outside an upper floor wip dough grabbed by a

firefighter. but wawa could not be saved -- >> big loss. >> reporter: good shepherd presbyterian church more than 100 years old prayer and community center for so many. >> it's a shame. >> it's a same. >> it's a shame. >> reporter: while 120 firefighter and other personnel worked to control the blaze, some neighbors prayed. >> maybe the lord would intervene and bring this fire under control. >> reporter: pastor pam williams got married in this church two years ago. >> we're devastated with what has happened today because we have lot of everything. not only a place to worship god but we've lost a part of us because a part of us was inside that building. >> reporter: it's not clear yet how stable the building is but looking for a cause of the fire will require investigators to go inside. >> we won't be able to actually do the cause and origin piece until the fire is officially quenched and we're able to make it cold and get in there and it's structurally sound. they're already working. this investigation will go on probably at least for a couple of days. >> reporter: as you can see just a shell of a building

remains. no one was hurt but two cats are missing. several different congregations call this church home. they are now looking for new places to worship. in overbrook, brad sattin, fox 29 news. on your radar tonight this latest heat wave just keeps on rolling. looking live at trenton our fourth day of at least 90 degrees comes to an end. kathy dorks we any more scorchers like this ahead. >> few more scorchers, iain, official heat wave yesterday and the heat rolls on, of course, the second heat wave of the month and today the 15th, 90-degree day of august we made it to 93 degrees. we are looking at temperatures that are slowly cooling down. 60s in the poconos in the lehigh valley. 83 still in philadelphia. in millville it is 81. you can see in atlantic city at the airport still 78 degrees. now as you plan your day tomorrow, breakfast time 7am temperatures will be in the 70s. by the noon hour, lunch time, 83. 87 in the afternoon and even by the evening at 7:00 p.m. temperatures will still be heading toward the mid 80s.

now coming up we'll talk about the heat and the humidity. it will be a stormy end to that. the holiday weekend weather is coming up. already looking ahead and there will be a tropical impact down the shore especially over the holiday weekend. we'll talk more about that with your seven day forecast. >> all right, kathy, thank you. tonight philadelphia police are looking for the shooter or shooters who sent three teenagers to the hospital. investigators say a gun battle erupted around midnight near the area of 27t 27th 27th and taskee police found the victim 17 year old boy and two, 1684 old boys. we're told they're all in stable condition in the hospital tonight. authorities are investigating whether the teens were involved in the shootout or if they were hit by stray bullets. police say this all could easily have been prevented. >> they have to adhere to the curfew rules and they should have been in. they should have been home. these curfew rules protect people not only from committing crimes but protect individuals if being victims of crimes. such as these three juveniles.

heroin with this stamp may have caused 49 overdoses in camden. now none of the overdoses were deadly but state police are asking people to spread the word to help save lives. the woman cued of slashing the tires on vehicles outside the home of philadelphia district attorney seth williams was apparently his girlfriend. that's how 47-year-old stacey cummings was labeled on some financial disclosure statements. delaware county da has charged her for the november incident. police say the cars damaged were part of seth williams security detail. mayor jim kenney spoke about the charges today. >> she shouldn't have done it. she apparently admitted doing it. she shouldn't have done it. really has nothing to do with me. and we have a lot of problems we're dealing with in the city on regular basis including kids being shot in the street and people trying to get work and people trying to get their lives in a better situation. that will play out with the district attorney's office in delaware county. >> it's not clear what kind of

relationship cummings and da colonelly have. water mape break still being repaired tonight right off of roosevelt boulevard. skyfox over that scene earlier today. this is on the southbound lane near the 4200 block of scotts lane. only the lower lane was getting by. no word an what exactly caused the main to break. rescued down the shore now this large turtle has long road to recovery ahead. staff from the marine mammal stranding center has been caring for the 140-pound sea turtle ever since saving her in brigantine. our bill anderson shows us how the turtle is doing. >> reporter: i get to meet 140-pound sea turtle today. try not to be jealous. the marine mammal stranding center in brigantine gets lots of calls about turtles in need of help but recent call from oyster creek nuclear plant was a little different. >> it's not unusual when they call and say there's a turtle on the intake line, it's a cooling system they use for the nuclear plant, however when they say

they have a 100-pound turtles that's a little different. most of the turtles we get from to plant eight to 10 pounds. >> reporter: unfortunate whole they picked her up they found out she was liking hanging close to sure because she had been hit by a boat and lost the use of her back flippers. >> secretary survive but not in the wild. in order for a stouter toll at a lay eggs they have to climb up on the beach, dig a hole their rear flippers only and deposit the egg. she can use her real flippers so she couldn't do that. >> reporter: it's tough to grasp how big a 140-pound turtle is until you're up close. >> only if i'm silly enough to do what i just did if i fall in i'm on my own. >> we tried to get you as close as possible but the folk at marine mammal cautioned me about getting a little too close. >> if she's curious enough she took a bite at your hand they would take your hand off. >> really? >> community has rallied in support donating dozen plus crabs she eats every day. but now the bigger challenge trying to find a home that accommodate a subtle this season.

>> reporter: music was and still is something she loves. ♪ >> i was in band. i was in pink floyd led zeppelin band. that was my life as a 13 year old. >> reporter: how does a little girl with so much zest and talent involved in so many activities fall victim an online predator. >> i wasn't getting the attention from boys at school. because i just wasn't popular enough or cute enough. so ooh turn to the internet when someone was giving me mean friend attention we were -- we jumped at the opportunity for someone to compliment us and made us feel better about ourselves. >> reporter: for years, is man that struggled with depression and thoughts of suicide after what happened. but somehow managed to block it all out. >> i kind of just let it slip to the back of my mind for about four years. >> reporter: then in 2010, samantha came home from school to find fbi agents at her mother's house.

they caught the guy who did those things to her years ago. >> i'm like holy crap. i forgot. i didn't even, you know, it kind of -- i slip it to the back of my mind, repressed it because i didn't want to think about the any more. >> reporter: she remembers her mother crying historically. >> she was more confused more than anything. just kind of wondering why i wouldn't tell her. >> reporter: the other bombshell, that person samantha and her friend believed they were talking online with that night -- >> like skater kid with like hair in his face and like a mirror your pick with skinny jones. >> reporter: not so. f ben franklin i agents say it wasn't the 15-year-old boy she described but instead of 26-year-old lucas michael chancellor in jacksonville, florida. >> i realized, wow, this is serious. this was messed up. this isn't right. >> reporter: it turns out samantha is one of several hundred victims fbi had identified at that point.

in fact i reported on chancellor's arrest back in present 14 when the fbi announce the they were looking for more victims and making parents aware of what they call sextortion. >> he had over 80,000 images of child pornography on his computer. he had extorted approximately 350 victims about 26 states, canada. extortion specifically involved either threats to the family, demands for money, but typically they want more pictures. that want more image but more often than not the extortion involves threats to post those images on the victim's, you know, friend list. >> he was set on sharing my picture. >> investigators track down chancellor after another girl's parents found messages on her computer and contacted them. samantha met some of the other victims when they went to florida to testify during a sentencing hearing. >> he got up and he said he was sorry for what he did. which was very emotional for all

number nine in the gulf of mexico looks like it will be making a landfall possibly by thursday along the west coast of florida and then continue just off the coast of myrtle beach on thursday into friday and that could impact our shore weather or rip current risk over the holiday weekend. here's a look at the shore impacts with our tropical depression number eight off the mid atlantic. through wednesday evening the rip current risk will be moderate the surf around 3 feet and the easterly as well as about two to 3 feet. so please only swim when the beaches are guarded. right now, in the city, we're looking at temperatures in the 80s. we'll fall to the 60s overnight. the suburbs 60. mainly clear and mild. tomorrow 89. that would break the heat wave it will be real close. mostly sunny and less how mid and and that we kick up the humidity again with the heat on wednesday. some late storms. thursday, some early showers. only in the 80s and look at this friday, saturday, sunday and monday for your holiday weekend, a sunny start, a perfect end
