This is an in-store cassette played during the month of August 1984 at Sound Warehouse record stores.  This chain appeared within the Chicagoland market in the late 1980's and was gone by the mid-1990's. Special Thanks to Tom Schwarzrock (Zephryrhills, FL) who personally provided this very rare tape to me so that it can be added to the archive collection.

This is a digitized version of an in-store reel to reel tape that was played within a Kmart store in December 1974.  The opening Kmart jingle is interesting at the beginning of both hours, and there are theft deterrent security pages and store policy announcements between every few songs.  This must have been in attempt to discourage shoplifting. This is a Tape-Athon product perhaps in their early days - see the attached pictures.  There also was an insert within the reel to reel box...

Way back in the early years of this decade, LucasArts realized that people not only enjoyed Star Wars, which they had happily been making and publishing horrible games about for years, but that they also enjoyed tactical shooters. But then, in a stroke of genius, they realized that many people, and gamers in particular, lack the intelligence to play Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon and so they decided that you, the player, should have as little say in the game's decision making as possible. And so...

This week's Retroist Podcast is about the 1985 cult film classic, "Gymkata"  I begin the podcast talking about my first exposure to the film. How I found the concept of combining gymnastics and karate compelling at first, but ultimately came to find this idea strange.  Finally I summarize my own martial arts style and how you can master it. I first recorded this show 3 years ago and never finished editing it since I did not like how it sounded.  So I re-recorded it and thought this...

Secret of Terror Castle '. . .an American juvenile detective novel written by Robert Arthur, Jr.. It is the first book in the "Three Investigators" series.  Finding a genuine haunted house for a movie set sounds like fun — and a great way to generate publicity for the Three Investigators' new detective agency. But when the boys arrive for an overnight visit at Terror Castle — home of a deceased horror-movie actor — they soon find out how the place got its name. . .'

Highly informative hour-long documentary about the Corona Project, which gave us America's first photo-reconnaissance (spy) satellites. Set in post-World War II New York City, the show closely followed the format of early Ellery Queen mystery novels where, before presenting the solution, a "Challenge To The Reader" was issued: the reader was challenged to guess the solution to the crime. In the series this tradition was followed by having Ellery Queen (Jim Hutton) "break the fourth wall," reviewing key clues and asking the audience if they knew the solution. The final act always used the time-honored...
