These scenes are taken from Britain by car, a family vacation film at time when my daughter was still a young girl. She is now already a mother herself. The film is a super 8 (Kodak) film. The vacation images are short by a cheap camera with a fixed focus. This was our "second' camera . That of my own was under repair and was used later on to film the insert with the Play-mobile toys. (see thumbnail) In this way a parallel story was created. Apart from the fact that i got a price during a...

How easy is it to get super 8mm equipment?Online auctions are also a good source but as ever, buyer beware! You'll need a good quality camera with the ability to shoot at 24 or 25 frames per second (for easier transfer later) and ensure that all major features are in working order. Look for respected makes such as Nizo, Bauer, Elmo & Canon.Where can I get film from? The replacement for Kodachrome 40 colour film, Ektachrome 64T is available through some high street and specialist shops....

The real star here is the late aerial photographer James Freeman, whose breathtaking helicopter shots of Mayan and Aztec ruins at sunrise and sunset won an Academy Award for this film in 1971. Although the English version was narrated by Orson Welles, the Spanish version, narrated by Ricardo Montalban, is in better keeping with the ethnic aspect of the film, and no knowledge of Spanish is needed to appreciate his dramatic impact. Don't be put off by the heroic musical score: this film is...

Sent by the U.S. government as a participant in the Marshall Plan with a specific mission to assist the French in re-gearing their animation studios, Stapp discovered a Europe much-decimated by war, but in further danger of annihilation by nuclear weapons. Returning to the U.S., he produced this alarming-yet-hopeful film, replete with its lonely, Tanguy-inspired landscapes peopled with static figures casting long shadows across charcoal-colored plains. While taking the risk of leaning a bit...

A trio of key scenes from "Rent-A-Girl" (1965), one of the better low-budget New York "roughies" from the '60s. Director William L. Rose was also the cinematographer for "The Defilers" (1965), the classic Hollywood roughie from sexploitation producer David F. Friedman and director Lee Frost. (Clips from that film are also on this archive.) This film is about a sleazy New York modeling agency that rents out girls to perverted clients with "special needs"....

Operation TEAPOT consisted of 14 nuclear tests detonated from February 18 to May 15, 1955. The goal of the series was to test nuclear devices for possible inclusion in the nuclear weapons stockpile; improve military tactics, equipment and training; and study civil defense requirements. With Operation TEAPOT, the Atomic Energy Commission intensified its technical effort for "clean" or reduced fallout weapons and missile warheads. This effort led to significant advances in both reduced...
