the right to food, the right to life, freedom of movement. after a review of all of the u.n. reports on north korea over the last several years, he called for the creation of a mechanism of inquiry to further document these abuses he has called attention to. in january of this year, the ommission for human rights also said it was time to create an inquiry mechanism to look further at north korea. i'm happy to report that in march the united states co-sponsored the resolution creating this commission of inquiry. it was proposed by japan and he european union with the strong support of the republic of korea and a number of other countries. the resolution directs the inquiry to examine the widespread of violation of uman rights. earlier this week, just a couple of days ago the president of the human rights council appointed the membership. mr. michael kerby has been appointed chairman of this commission of inquiry. also, a leader in the balkans was appointed to the council. nd former indonesia's attorney general will also serve on this commission. we will work with our partners here and
