i'm sam brock. we have been following this story for the last several hours. now we sent pushback alerts on our nbc app. bob riddell joins us at the apartments. everyone wants to know, how does a toddler end up alone on the streets? >> reporter: that's a question police are still trying to answer. good morning to you, kris and sam. police tell us they received a call around 9:20 this morning from someone near the home where this boy lives. that was after he was found in the woods of an apartment complex in san jose. police are now questioning the boy's guardian to find out what happened. the violence unit is also getting involved. it was around 3:00 this morning that a couple living in this apartment complex found the boy wandering near the woods by the complex. he tells us the boy at the time was covered in mud, was only wearing a diaper. the couple gave him a little sweater to keep warm. police arrived. they took the boy to the hospital for a medical evaluation to make sure he was okay, and then they turned him over to child protective services. they also looked for the boy's pa

very much for joining us for our midday newscast. i'm sam brock. >> and i'm kris sanchez. it's a story we've been following all morning long. it broke just a few minutes ago, that news of the arrest. pete suratos is live at the bart station with what we know about this guy, pete, and what charges he faces. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris and sam. this is all new breaking news, as you mentioned, moving very fast. i did speak to a bart official who can confirm an arrest has been made when it comes to a suspect following two incidents that happened last weekend. these are surveillance images of the man that was arrested in connection with these two incidents. now, according to bart police, they're saying on saturday at the embarcadero station in san francisco that that man, that suspect you're looking at, punched a man in the face twice, and this was an unprovoked attack. the victim does not know the suspect. there was another incident on thursday in between the bayfair station and san leandro station while they were in transit. they're saying the same man hit the victim on the tra

. good morning to you. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >>> and i'm scott mcgrew in for sam brock. let's get your morning started with a look at a humid forecast. >> how about we pick up the bay area and move it to miami? we are going to feel the humidity increasing. if you think it's muggy this morning. that's nothing compared to what will have today and there's a heat advisory in effect. it mostly includes the hills where temperatures will reach over 100. we do have some lightning and some rain just offshore just across the central coast and just to the southwest of here. i'll be tracking that as it moves closer to the bay area. more details on that coming up. mike's tracking two crashes right now. >> you're tracking lightning, i'm tracking just two crashes. overall the speed sensors look great for the bay area freeway except for up here. this is southbound highway 242. that crash still blocks your fast lane and your slow from highway 4. the longer route is the better route. we do have inth overturned big rig which caused a 238 off-ramp to be closed. lighter summer traffic and being a wednesday

and city leaders are scrambling. sam brock was tweeting about the developments as they unfolded. he joins us live at crissy field where the rally is set to be placed. >> reporter: you are exactly right. live in crissy field. this is a place that thousands of san franciscoians come every day to relax. this is part of the u.s. parks decisions which means all the decisions at this space starts and ends with the federal government. on the heels this deadly clash in virginia, leaders are concerned about a repeat that includes in san francisco where a certain haze hangs over a scheduled rally. >> we demanded that the national park service re evaluates. >> reporter: today i spoke with the man organizing it. and asked what message he is trying to get across. >> we cannot focus on race. we cannot judge people based off the color of their skin. but you cannot judge people because they are democrat or republican. >> reporter: gibson says he is appalled about it racism and hatred and the violence it spouted. but he made no promises about a peaceful protest in san francisco. >> i can't guarantee

one side showed up. sam brock begins our coverage in mountainview. >> what do we want? >> equality. >> reporter: from the plaza is in mountainview. hundreds of people came together saturday. more than just reacting to a right wing rally that was ultimately cancelled, the attendee displayed messages of love and diversity in the wake of violent protests that have become a national flash point, culminating with the death of a young woman in charlottesville. >> how important is it for this to be a peaceful demonstration? >> i don't support violence or terrorism oar people marching wi with tee key torches. >> reporter: and the events just that. peaceful. mountainview police set up perimeters and patrolled the space, there was no hint of violence at this demonstration organized by the mountainview voices for peace and justice. just a stated opposition to what many consider a presidential pardon of racism. >> things that are completely against why my family and i came to this country. and it's exactly what love and respect and diversity and he keeps supporting things that are just complet
