manchester, new hampshire. right to my first read of the morning, voters casting ballots in the first of the nation primary and if romney performs according to polls, a double-digit win tonight and leave new hampshire worse than when he came. after the campaign's worst 48 hours yet, damaging the central rationale of his candidacy, that his business experience makes him the best qualified to be president. monday morning started with romney's rivals jumping on his off the cuff claim in a sunday town hall that he once worried about getting a pink slip. >> i have no doubt that mitt romney was worried about pink slips, whether he was going to have enough of them to hand out. >> well, then talking about health insurance providers at a breakfast, romney had this, perhaps, unfortunate line. >> i like being able to fire people that provide services to me. if -- you know if someone doesn't give me the good service i need, i want to ge get somebody else to provide that service to me. >> ironically, a little bit, probably,

here in manchester, new hampshire we get to the news. after last night's vote it would take something catastrophic now to prevent mitt romney from becoming the republican nominee for president. he rolls down to south carolina this morning, ten days ahead of the january 21st primary there. here in new hampshire, the final tally reflects broad support for romney across the state. he won 5 of new hampshire's 12 total delegates. ron paul came in second with three. jon huntsman has two. mitt romney has a total of 16 delegates after this near win in iowa, son tore rum comes in second overall with 11 kel gatts. ron paul rounding out the top three. south carolina's 25 delegates, florida's 50 delegates still up for grabs. both of those states, winner take all primaries after the decisive victory in new hampshire, the romney camp hopes this will send a signal to the republican party that it's time to rally behind the front-runner. romney turned his attention toward the general election and president obama while taking a swipe at his republican riv

you teleported yourself, as willie indicated, back to manchester. do you have any sense on the ground there about the role that the union leader is getting ready to play with regard to gingrich and the assault that's bound to come on mitt romney? >> well, i'll be curious to see if they do that. the romney campaign has actually been pleasantly surprised. they expected a month-long assault from the union leader editorial page and it really hasn't happened. it didn't happen in the way -- remember at the beginning we said the history of the union leader is when they endorse, they don't endorse once, they endorse every day and they certainly endorse against -- help you out with your opponents. we haven't seen all that so i'll be curious to see what the next six days are like. i expect this to be a pretty nasty six days. for huntsman it's do or die and for newt it's do or die. so even though the result may not be in doubt, how mitt romney comes out of here after new hampshire will be fascinating. >> we will be joining you there, chuck. >> believe it or no

joining me now from manchester, new hampshire is john harwood. starting with the politics, no republican candidate won iowa and then new hampshire. romney poised to do that and take south carolina as well. what is the romney camp saying? >> first of all, you are scaring that with that brain decline story, but i will do my best. >> you have plenty of time. >> mitt romney is poised to win here in new hampshire and that could be a big step for the, but the tightening polls show that rick santorum has a shot. not a great shot. he needs to finish second and get a push and show that nude gingrich and rick perry are not not the viability alternative and santorum is and he has a chance to do that. mitt romney is in a powerful position. >> let's turn our attention to the economy as well. the new jobs numbers are out. unemployment is down again. where are we seeing the job growth? >> growth in manufacturing and how permanent yours will be. overall this is continued good news for president obama. what he needs to show is that he's got the economy moving in

we are joined from manchester. good morning. good to see you again. let me start with you. your dad staked his entire campaign on new hampshire. said that from the beginning. he does have late momentum going into tomorrow's primary. we're less than 24 hours away. has he run out of time? >> absolutely not. i think in all of the polls you see us moving up in the right direction and everyone moving down in the wrong direction. we're feeling very confident about tomorrow. >> i know you guys all sit around, you're a close family. i've seen you together with your mom. dish some secrets when you sit around. what's the number you think you need to hit to go on? >> there's no specific number. i think we want to exceed expectations. whatever that ends up being, i think that you will be very surprised to see how we finish in new hampshire. even governor romney around for over 15 years campaigning, his name is well known. our dad started five months ago with zero percent name recognition and now jumping into second place. that's a story in and of itself. >> your dad decided not to acce

that's newt gingrich speaking in manchester. we've been discussing this morning, mitt romney is enjoying a lead ahead of the new hampshire primary and now the front-runner is seeing that momentum trickle into major voting states later this month. there's a new quinnipiac poll out has romney holding a double digit lead over republicans in florida a state that many believe could lock up the nomination for the former massachusetts governor. lenny is the chairman of the republican party of florida. it's nice to have you here. as we talk about new numbers out this morning, 54% of the republican voters in the state say that they still might change their mind when it comes to florida. do you really think there's that much volatility surrounding this or is it that mitt romney is close as thing you're going to get to a sure thing in the state right now? >> i think there's absolutely that much volatility. that's what we've seen this entire campaign season. the volatility doesn't scare me. it's healthy. it says the republican base has been
