christina loren has your forecast in just a few moments, but let's go to christie smith who is in marin county which is tapping into their emergency reserves starting today. >> that's right. we just took a ride to the reservoir about 20 minutes ago and mixed in with all of the beautiful redwood trees, you see the steady sound of a pop. they have not used this water supply in about 20 years. the supply is about 55% of normal because of the lack of rain that we have. so the marin municipal water district is pumping water, which is really costly, because it is being pumped up hill. the district wants to pump out before it starts to evaporate. unlike some water districts, it doesn't rely on runoff, just the rain it would normally get. now the prior rainfall low was in 1929. that year it was just 19 inches and they have already gone even lower. >> normally we get 52 inches, and in 2013 we got 11 inches. that's why our reservoirs are so low at this point. we have been tracking this for a number of months. we talked about it back in december and we were given the charge to go out and start tal

you and i are holding down the fort here, christina. a 19-year-old woman has died just hours after she was hit by a truck in fremont and taken to the hospital. the woman was holding her infant child at the time and walking along the road with her 17-year-old sister when all three of them were hit by a truck. christie snit is live with the sad sforry. >> the driver did stop. good morning. a horrible, tragic start to the new year for one family. the driver did stop, talk to the police and say, look, it was dark. i didn't see them out there. according to police, he hit the 19-year-old mom who was carrying her three-month-old baby boy. he is now fighting for his life. drivers drove that baby to the hospital nearby. the mom's 17-year-old sister was also hit. she suffered minor injuries. police did cpr and tried to help. they spoke with the driver, a 64-year-old man in a pup truck is cooperating. they don't think that drugs or alcohol were involved at all. reporting live, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> the park boulevard on ramp is ba

let's start with meteorologist christina loren. >> happy girl this morning. happy girl this morning. much of the bay area is going to be so happy to see that the forecast, yeah, it played out this time. we have good totals to show you this morning. i'm going to say off the bat not enough to ease the drought. let's take that off the table. we need several more big systems to even put a dent in the drought. nonetheless we've got great looking totals to show you. redwood valley almost an inch. in the north bay, about a half inch, san jose, we have a pretty decent total. we're still getting more rainfall at this time so we picked up about .1 inch at san jose state. there is more on the way. we're going to track the system throughout the morning. let's get back to the drought which brings me to anthony slaughter. anthony is live out there at the lexington reservoir. we know this isn't enough rain to put a dent in the drought. what do you see this morning? is it pretty low? >> reporter: well, you know, it's dark, so don't see much right now. but as we were driving

christina has been talking about it. real nice temperatures, fire dangers, it's monday, january 13, and this is "today in the bay." >>> a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm terry mcsweeney. we begin with breaking news. a two-alarm house fire has been put out, broke out less than a half hour ago on the 17,000 block of krothers road. peggy bunker on the way to the scene. she will give us a live report once she gets there. this morning's fire comes as the hunt is on in the south bay for a serial arsonist, he struck at least five times over the weekend. police released a sketch of this person of interest. around 6 feet to 6'2", weighing between 160-180. he has large frame glasses. he caused 13 suspicious fires near the downtown san jose area in less than a week. all have been set between 2:00 and 6:00 in the morning. people in the area handing out flyers now, and even organized a neighborhood watch to keep their homes safe. >> autopsies will be performed on a palo alto couple

so is meteorologist christina loren. >> we are so happy it is here now. the bad part is it's arrived right in the heart of your morning drive so give yourself extra time especially taking the little ones to school. you might have to dig out their rain gear, it has been so long since we had a front as organized as this. moving into the bay area we have impressive totals, san jose area, mount mammal on the, up to a quarter inch, and boy, do we need that rain. a little storm tracking, tell you when the next deep batch of rain is going to move into the south bay. throughout the next couple hours we're going to keep this rain in the forecast. by 6:05, we're talking about pretty steady rainfall in the heart of your morning drive. all of this pressing to the south. we'll continue to track these systems as they develop. we have a weak impulse on the way. you want to keep that umbrella with you. this is the main event but residual moisture to follow. which brings me live to anthony slaughter live out there at the lexington reservoir. it's interesting because in 20
