people there including our own margaret conley knows what that feels like. i'm wondering, margaret, are people out and about? >> reporter: yes, they are, martin. and that 23 degrees, that's about 21 degrees warmer than it was this morning, and overnight there were near record low temperatures. but as you can see, people have started to come out today. we're standing in a parking lot near a church. mass is going to begin at 4:00. so, people have definitely started to go in. one of the biggest obstacles as you can see around me here is also the snow. they've been plowing it and pushing it aside, so people have been trying to maneuver their way around. statewide they had 3,394 plows working through massachusetts, they have capacity of 4,000, that's how much snow they've been having to deal with. as rosa was saying also, we've been through the snow, we've been through the wind, but guess what's coming next? that's right, the rain. tomorrow night and into monday we're expecting a lot of rain. we have emergency workers that have already sent out warnings to people

margaret conley is over at laguardia airport in new york city. what's it like there today, margaret? >> reporter: wolf, there are more cancellations at laguardia this morning than yesterday morning at this time. but the good news is that operations are expected to resume back to normal by this afternoon. there are about 4,000 flights that take off from this region every day. 20% of them have been cancelled today. but that is better than yesterday. you can see a lot of people behind me, checking in. a lot more activity here. yesterday at around 5:00, there were no flights taking off around here at all. and all of the airlines are handling this situation differently. delta, for example, they have cut down significantly on air traffic from jfk and laguardia. united, they have cut down on short haul flights. so the reminder from the airlines and from tsa is to check with your airlines before you come to the airport. the airlines are also saying, check online versus social media or calling in, because that's going to be a lot faster. wolf? >> certainl

cnn's team coverage starts with margaret conley in boston, ted rowland sincere pis is picking y in naperville, illinois. margaret, i want to begin with you. how bad is this expected to get and when? >> reporter: the worst part will come in tonight and into tomorrow morning. how bad is it going to be? we can expect up to a foot of snow and temperatures to drop below three degrees freezing. the big concern here is the wind. we've already seen a stronger wind picked up in these last couple of hours. and there's light snow. so, with strong winds and light snow, there's concern about blizzards. and with blizzards, there could be a whiteout. whiteout meaning you can't see. there will be low visibility. that's really going to impact travel. travel in the air and on the roads. we've already seen flights being canceled, as you said, or delayed. we talked to the department of transportation here in boston. there's already been at least one accident and also the speed has been slowed down on some of the roads. it was 65 down to 40. one thing, ashleigh, we are keeping track of here is the number of snow

margaret conley in boston, expecting a huge impact there. this storm's going to collide with the second storm, morphing into a major nor'easter. how is boston preparing? >> reporter: john, the worst has yet to come. boston has declared this as snow emergency. snow has started overnight, it's going to pick up this afternoon, it's going to get worse this evening and until tomorrow. how bad? we've got our measuring stick right here. we've got only 2 inches and going up to a foot. we've got this much more coming. freezing temperatures are going to be below 3 degrees. you can see on the streets here, not many people around. there was a postman earlier, other people are shoveling snow. but the concern here is the wind. there's a beg wind factor. and the snow is light. that's creating a blizzard effect which causes low visibility. that's an issue for travelers on the road and in the plain planes. flights delayed or postponed and on the ground, there have been accidents that we've heard reported because of weather. so be very careful on roads. here'
