kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran is outside the indicted senator's san francisco home. ey's political future could be out of his hands this morning. >>> reporter: as far as we know, senator yee is still inside his home. he hasn't made any public appearances since leaving a federal courthouse on wednesday and kpix 5 has learned that he is fighting to keep his job and isn't backing down despite calls to resign. now, according to a capital source familiar with the discussions, yee has told senate leaders he would like to take a leave of absence but he is not formally requesting paid leave. a spokesman for senate president pro tem darrell steinberg said he couldn't confirm those conversations but said senator steinberg did repeat the two choices he gave yee that he should resign or he will be removed by his fellow senators in a vote. >> leave. don't burden your colleagues and this great institution with your troubles. leave. >> reporter: meanwhile, yee is no longer a candidate for state office. his attorney read aloud a letter the sen

kpix 5's anne makovec is live at the china basin where there are some overnight developments and, anne, firefighters are running into some new challenges one of them looks like the wind, huh? >> reporter: yeah. its really, really windy out here. so luckily, this fire at this point is generally contained to this building. that's why they have been pouring water on it all night and they have been having trouble making sure they have enough gas in their trucks access to water to continue this firefight which has been going for about 12 hours. this is a six-story building. a wall has collapsed there. you can't see it from the front. that fire still burning in the core of the building. it was reported just before 5 p.m. and it spread very quickly flames shooting 40 feet into the air at points. it could be seen throughout the bay area miles away. it's a condo development under construction. at this point it was made largely of wood, which went up like tinder. about 150 firefighters began their attack as embers and large burning pieces of debris fell around the neighborhood. so they had to mo

kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran has the story now live in the newsroom. cate. >> reporter: frank, a close- knit community and law enforcement group mourning the loss of one of their own. mendocino county sheriff emotional as he gave the details of what led up to the death of deputy ricky del fiorentino. it started when his killer carjacked a couple in eugene yesterday morning and then locked them in the trunk, drove south, a shootout in piercy, before speeding off and killing the deputy in cleone near fort bragg. about an hour and a half before the suspect ricardo chaney killed deputy del fiorentino, he ended up here at a tourist attraction in piercy. john mills the manager saw chaney urinating on the wall a few feet from the restroom. he told chaney to leave but instead, the suspect got in his car and grabbed a shotgun. >> the first shot went off and i said oh, f and i rolled in this way and closed the door as he fired. it hit that and out that window over there on some of it. if my aim had been better, there would be another daddy going home tonight. >>
