this year. brian flores is in alameda with the reasons why. this will be alarming to a lot of people. >> reporter: it might be. you go to any pharmacy in the bay area just like this one here in alameda and you see the signs saying you should get your flu shot. some promoting no cost flu shots. while that still may be the case, the cdc did a sampling of those who got the flu from october to november, what they found was that the flu vaccine for this year may not be a good match to combat this current strain. this was through an vig sent out by the cdc earlier to doctors across the country. again, they sampled those who got the flew. what they found was that the vaccine was only good for half of the cases suggesting that the virus is different than what was planned for. they say the vaccine is typically created based on which storms of the flu spread the year previous. now, the cdc says, however, it appears it may not effect this year's flu, they still recommend getting the flu shot because it will offer severe protections from severe complications like hospitalization and death

berkeley over night, brian flores is right along shattic avenue, looks like many businesses cleaning up this morning. >> good morning to you. it started off as a peaceful protest, this is the aftermath of what happened last night and early this morning. several businesses, are damaged this is a mcdonald's on the corner of university and shatick. people wanting to cause problems last night. as we speak, though, there are a few workers putting up plywood to protect the businesses, this is law enforcement actually forced to clean up after a lot of damage. this is what the chp sent out through twitter last night. several cars were damaged in the protest, these pictures show broken windshields and dents if not clear, exactly where the cars were damaged but they say they face a large crowd trying to shut down highway 24. they say 8 people were arrested and 2 officers also suffered minor injuries. this was the scene at a radio shack, ktvu was there this morning several windows boarded up from people breaking the glass last night, we're also told several electronics were stolen from this store.

many emergency responders are telling everyone to get ready now. ktvu's brian flores, you are in san rafael. they are preparing out there at this moment, brian. >> reporter: i am, dave. so are several other people in marin county. as you know. marin county certainly gets pounded during any major rain storm. that's gonna be the case in the next couple of days. as steve said, it will be a widespread storm. we're live in one of several locations throughout marin where people can come by, get sandbags to help stop flooding. this one off union and flood next to the whole foods. as you can see, with the amount of sand left which is not much. it looks like people have heeded the advisory and are getting ready for the upcoming storm. forecasters say the amount of rain that is expected to tall will be quite a bit. steve mentioned up to 3 inches possibly in urban areas up to 8 inches in the mountain areas which is why the national weather service has issued a storm advisory. we have seen city work crews to downtown clearing out drains. we did speak 0 to some in oakland who are getting ready. >

head over to brian flores. this is highway 24 in lafayette. you can see typical traffic on a tuesday. it starts getting busy as you go to the caldecott tunnel. once you get past that traffic is clear as you approach the bay bridge. this is a really good indicator of how traffic looks like in the morning. about 10-12 minutes to get you across the span. chp says there is a wind advisory on the bay bridge as well. so be aware of that. taking a look at the south bay traffic looking really good this morning. really from 82 to down to 280 but that traffic seems to have cleared up. things are looking good on the peninsula. there is a disabled vehicle on san mateo after the bridge. but that is keeping traffic a little slow and go this morning. over all not too bad. there is also reports from what i'm hearing northbound 880 as you approach fifth and embarcadero. we are taking a look at 17 disabled cars. we'll take a look at that coming up in our next traffic report. steve, it's going to be cold out there today. >>> it will indeed. the dry air is on the way. the cold air will arrive ar
