southern california's biggest concern? mud slides. this year's wildfires have left many places vulnerable and you're looking at video of mud slides that have already promised evacuations. 18 homes have been red-tagged in ventura county. and the storm will hit san diego by noon. >>> today looks a lot better for travelers trying to fly out of the bay. so far, only 9 arrivals were canceled out of sfo. but no departures canceled and no flights are delayed. and everything is going on as scheduled in both san jose mineta and oakland international airport. hundreds of flights were canceled across the bay yesterday because of the heavy rain. >>> pg&e crews are still working to repair scattered power outages around the bay area this morning. total number of outages now under 4,000 for the entire bay area north to south. the most outages right now are up in the north bay. san francisco though hit very hard. power outages yesterday, 85,000 customers lost their power during the storm. that included more than 100 businesses on pier 39. when the li

later on tonight, the cold front sweeps down through southern california. even santa barbara to los angeles will get a little taste of it with 1 to 2 inches of rain. you know what that does to even the traffic and commuting all the way down through southern california. so the winds, they haven't really moved in yet. so far gusts 40 miles per hour. we haven't seen any damaging winds yet. those are going to start to pick up during the daylight hours today, especially around san francisco, right around the lunch hour, then as we go through southern california a little later on this evening. wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour in the mountains. that's why we're going to have the issues out there. so it's a very impressive storm. as we've said, it's the biggest one in six years. but you kind of have the caveat there haven't been many storms the last six years. >> as a guy that lived in l.a. for three years, drivers get a little panicky. >> 2 inches of rain is a lot of rain for l.a. >> it is and people are not used to that. especially going up to the north there.

parts of southern california are getting snow. this is how the northern approach to the grapevine on interstate 5 looked yesterday afternoon. this is at l.a. beck exit. about 40 miles south of bakersfield. and elevation of 3400 feet. the snow stuck to the ground long enough to encourage some families to pull over off the freeway and play in that snow. it didn't last long. it is raining there now. so the snow is gone. >>> time is 5:56. today is the last day on the job for san jose mayor chuck reed. tomorrow sam liccardo takes over. mayor reed says avoiding bankruptcy that was his biggest accomplishment. part of that involved employee pay cuts and pension reform and that caused some bitter battles with the unions and critics say a dwindling police force. still mayor reed says those reforms allowed him to leave behind a fiscally found city. >> i'm happy to turn the reigns over to mayor liccardo in good condition. not perfect condition. >> he says he has no plans to run for political office again. but he will stay politically involved
