he's gone down in new hampshire. what's behind that. >> hope was a pretty good strategy for barack obama. remember that. >> i think new hampshire is a bit of a different story for donald trump, he's still leading in the polls, he's down six points from where he was in late july. and as dana was pointing out earlier, his loss is the gain of john kasich and carly fiorina. both of them had breakout performances at their respective debates. and i think they've taken a little oxygen out of the trump balloon in new hampshire. new hampshire's really different from iowa. couldn't be more different. you can have cross-over voters. independents can vote in a republican primary, that may be why someone like john kasich may be given a second look or a woman like carly fiorina. trump really doing well, do not understate that, but again there are others in the field in new hampshire and iowa, let me point out one more thing. 20% undecided in this poll in iowa, so there's still a lot of thinking and changing of votes that needs to

this is a long campaign, 162 days in the new hampshire -- until the new hampshire primary. the smart thing for any candidate, even if you are being attacked, is to focus on your message, your again, your vision for the country. introduce yourself to the voters. john kasich has done that very effectively over the past 6-8 weeks. it's the start of a process. people didn't think we would be on the debate stage in cleveland but we made it. he has made headway in the polls. on the first line tell him we have a long way to go. polls are transient. you have to focus on your record, your experience and your game. mark: senator, john kasich is doing well in the polls in your state. one of your fellow supporters at some point before labor day, john kasich would pass jeb bush in the polls. in some that appears to be true. you think he should focus mostly on new hampshire or should he make an equally big effort in iowa and south carolina? : i think he will continue to visit iowa, south carolina, new hampshire, michigan. mark: in equal measure? inunu: you never do anything equal measure

and quite frankly, whoever wins new hampshire really might not be the person who, new hampshire's not playing the same role that it used to play. and you heard the debate moderator mention over and over again, the thankfulness that some people had shown town the debate and that people were there and sort of welcoming to new hampshire, but i think it's very clear that the race is just entirely different than it has been in previous years. and therefore kind of hard to make that comparison. >> it just amazed me, george pataki giving that answer. he was a pro-choice govern of new york for years. he has no chance in this race unless he can distinguish himself from the other candidates, and he certainly didn't do that in his first moments on the stage. >> lindsey graham said of course we need more troops on the ground in iraq. when jeb bush was faced with the question of troops on the ground, he was very hesitant. he stumbled quite a bit. and it was fascinating, because he has to know that the boots on the ground question and hypotheticals about what would provoke him to order boots on the
