nbc 10's drew smith is live in south philadelphia. drew, we understand the restaurant was open during the killing. do you know if anyone heard anything? >> reporter: it's unclear, katy. that's because there are actually three levels to this restaurant and the killing happened in the basement where the kitchen is, a 54-year-old cook ended up dead on the floor, her throat cut. crime scene investigators spent the overnight hours collecting evidence in that kitchen. the customers and workers all went to police headquarters for interviews. that cook's co-workers found her with bruises on her face and she was covered in blood. the kitchen was a mess. >> it appears there was a very violent struggle. there's a lot of blood next to her body. there is some overturned kitchen equipment. >> investigators do not have a motive for this killing at this point. they are planning to come back and check surveillance cameras in the neighborhood, hoping to get a look at the person who may have done this. they're also conducting more interviews with the pe
