now new sand graces the beaches in ocean city at a cost of about $57 million. it may not look like anything more than your typical beach but the engineering is there from 37th street to 59th street. this is where the ocean city beaches benefitted from a 57 millioned replenishment project from the army corps of engineers. the beaches are now higher, about nine feet higher than ocean level. doug burgin says this project was important not just to protect the beach but also the valuable homes here. >> vitally important for anyone who owns property, obviously. also for ocean city because of the tourism industry and memorial day weekend, summer coming up. it's nice to have wide beaches for everyone toç enjoy. >> this is part of a three-town deal with strathmere and sea isle city. one other point to mention, talking about the cancellations, right now we've seen the rain let up a little bit here. it's misty at the shore, foggy but just up the street, they're still planning to have their memorial day ceremony, weather permitting, they may hold it indoors. we'll keep y

ocean city at 63 degrees. atlantic city at 65. the winds are coming off of the ocean so that's going to keep the beaches cooler today. that's a 13 miles per hour wind for atlantic city this afternoon. wildwood a 12 miles per hour wind but inland it's coming across so we'll see a quick warm up. we'll get the cool ocean breezes and humidity will be running higher today and the temperatures really moving up for philadelphia. 77 degrees at 9:00 this afternoon and then into the middle 80s by 1:00. upper 80s to near 90 this afternoon. same for the lehigh valley. 70s to start with. mid 80s by lunchtime. there's a chance for spotty afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. we'll see them in the western suburbs. less likely in delaware. can't completely rule it out though. 76 degrees to start with. the quick warm up by 1:00 in the afternoon. upper 80s during the late afternoon hours. this is where we're most likely to see them develop between 1 and 5:00. most locations will be dry. 77 degrees and then ocean breezes by late this afte

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in ocean city with an update on conditions there. pamela, what have you found? >> good morning. you know, the rain is very light right now. we're only an hour and a half to the wind and the rainfall that we're seeing down here so far. here's what it means for you. if you're going to be driving along the coast today, keep in mind rain will likely impact your morning commute. we're on bay avenue and as we were getting ready for a live report, a man who lives in the area stopped and told us this is one of the spots that tends to flood here in ocean city. high tide will occur on the ocean front between 7:00 and 9:00 this morning. some predictions i've seen have it at 4.8 feet. fast forward to 8:00 tonight. that tide is expected to be at 5.6. expect moderate flooding. because of that, there is a coastal flood warning in place for local street flooding and then later on tonight, that warning extends to the back bays. keep in mind the back bays will see high tide up to five hours later than the ocean front. the warning is going to extend un
