nia, you've been covering washington for quite a while as well. what do you make of this. >> big, big moment for republicans and it's clear that mitch mcconnell was able to move some of those senators that were no votes by essentially saying, this is only debate. this isn't about strictly a repeal, nor is it about repeal or replace strictly either, so he basically laid out a buffet of options there so he could get all of those folks on board. i talked to someone close to heller who essentially said just that. you know, that was what prompted him to switch votes, that they will have so many different options to go for. it's not clear what those options are going to be. they're obviously iterations of this health care bill that we've seen out of the house. there's a repeal only bill, there's a repeal and replace bill, so all sorts of options for everybody there and you see mitch mcconnell there essentially saying, seize the moment, republicans. don't let this opportunity pass us by. he's obviously talking to republicans and schumer there also talkin

we look at the reaction from washington, from beijing, from seoul, from tokyo. so certainly it's interesting that the president putin is now putting himself further into the north korean realm here and the fact that he is agreeing with president xi. they have a joint statement that they've come out with, and they've said that their idea to try and solve the issue, or at least bring peace and less tension back to the korean peninsula, is north korea should freeze its missile tests, freeze its nuclear program, and in return the united states should stop its u.s./south korean joint military drills. now, these are joint military drills that both sides do every single year, every year it raises tensions on the peninsula, pyongyang is infuriated by them. but the u.s. says they are defensive, and we have seen, in the past, that this idea, which was originally china's, is a nonstarter. washington saying that they're not going to stop having joint military drills with an ally like south korea just to try and get this freeze. so it is interesting that china and russia are

. >> in the "washington post," you said that the photo of chris christie sitting on that empty beach with his family was essentially him giving the people of new jersey, to quote you, you chuckle, it's pretty good, the giant middle finger. >> well, you know, new jersey people are used to doing that in traffic and other places, so it means a great deal more if you happen to live in the garden state. but that's exactly what it was. he wanted to show them how little he cares that he's at 15%, and he's governor, he can do whatever he wants to. but i tell you, i really think it does matter to him. i think this is a lot of put-on for show. i think it matters to him. i think he would like to be at least 20%. >> well, what's interesting to me, and i realize new jersey is not a microcosm for the rest of the country, but what's interesting to me is when you look at, say, president trump versus governor christie. being blunt, i'm going to tell it how it is. plu president trump, similar, the whole let trump be trump worked for him. why do you think it didn't work for chris christie? >> because w

we'll bring in chief washington correspondent and host of "the lead," jake tapper. so jake, you spoke with donald trump jr. at the time he met with this russian attorney? >> it was right after the person that u.s. intelligence said there was a russian hacker, or at least affiliated with russian intelligence, released or gave the e-mails to be released to some other group of the democratic national committee hack. at that point i had interviewed the chairman of the clinton campaign, robbie mook, and he had said, before we had any information from the u.s. intelligence community, he said the clintons had been telling the campaign that this was done by the russians. keep in mind when you watch this clip this was several weeks after donald trump jr. had been told that the russian government wanted to help his father, e-mails from his associate, that at least based on the e-mails he seemed to believe and took the meeting. think of that as you watch this clip. >> it just goes to their moral compass. they'll say anything to be able to win this time after time, lie after li

that would show a chief executive in charge of the situation and in command of what's happening in washington right now that's unfolding before our eyes. we don't have any evidence that any collusion took place yet. but questions have to be answered. they've offered to answer them. and i think those things really need to speed up at this point. >> it does seem the e-mails, though, do seem to indicate that donald trump jr. was open to the idea of collusion. i mean whether or not this attorney represented the russian government, that's how she was pitched to him, and he went for that pitch hook, line, and sinker right away with great enthusiasm and not only that, was told that the information came from the russian government. whether or not any of that was true, the fact that he believed it, scott, isn't that incredibly important here? >> it's very important. and i hope it was borne out of ignorance that these aren't the kinds of meetings you would ordinarily take in a high level presidential campaign situation like this. i do think it's important to remember that donald trump jr., through his

we thought we'd be talking about "the washington post" and the "new york times" reporting. to watch scaramucci, paul begala, your impressions and just you knowing the inner workings of a white house, what's his biggest uphill battle? >> well, a white house is a living organism, especially -- it's only been going six months but still in six mojnths, it forms us own ecosystem. now you're transplanting an organ into that. the body's going to want to reject it. i don't know scaramucci well. i've met him a couple of times. he has a great conference investment group and paid me, smart enough to pay know give a speech, but i do think he has good skills within that ecosystem to fit in so the body doesn't reject the new organ. lord knows the president needs new blood. the problem is not scaramucci, it's not even spicer, although he did a bad job. it's the president. focus on the organ grinder, not the monkey. guys like me or scaramucci or sean, we're all monkeys. it's the president and donald trump is a black hole of integrity. he's a swirling malignant vortex of deceit and dishones
