schumer: i do see some of that. here's the problem -- particularly in the house, there are a lot of republican congressman that will be adversely affected. take long island. you have a family, a teacher and police officer who have an income of about $150,000. they pay from their property tax and their income tax a lot. theiry do not get deduction, then the standard deduction will not even come close to it. my guess is that you are going 50 republicans saying that they cannot vote for this because it raises taxes on their core constituency. that is the lesson they learned in 1986. i was part of it. point, weleader's heard in the committee how members are already talking about how this could be seen as double taxation. republicans see that as a fundamental principle of the senate republican economic thinking. said, two, as the leader this is not just breaking into a blue state or red state issue. we are going to see great swaths of the country, not just one or two places, but many folks paying significant local taxes.
