russian hacking activities against russia for example, this is an article about how russian services recruited guys from around the country russian cyber army. now, in the cannon institute and in the book it's the history of russian hackers from the soviet to today. today i will tell you stories about them. i don't want to talk a lot about possible russian packings for the american election and i think the last two years but i want to talk about russian hackers and their connections to government. elsewhere in the world, in russia the [inaudible] were close but a big story leaked and for example this is alexandra she's a former employer that provide services to protect against attacks and in august 2015 she left russia and in a few days after this when she fled russia we met in helsinki and she showed me the documents that told really dramatic and a story about russian cyber weapons. by his words in february 2015 she was invited to a company [inaudible] and expert in military company and on a trip to bulgaria and all of the trip turned out to be demonstrations capable of [inaudible].

with that russian independent website working for the biggest russian news website at the time. and with the publication and with that refugee problem with cybersecurity in the islamic state. getting an award in journalism and the stories have been cited in the new york times and other respected publications. those that are the most prestigious award. and also a fellow here at the moment we are pleased to have such a strong representation here. >> it is great to see you here. and then to get the news about russia. so now in december after three years to write these narrative stories about the asus influence and link to russia. and with those groups but the last two years reading the stories of the russian hackers. and for example this is an article from around the country for the russian cyberarmy. so then there were some stories. and over the last two years but sometimes with the company that provides services and in 2015 leaving russia. and the story about the russian cyberweapons. but in 2015 and with that definition but to bring in the minister of defense. but. so these russian guys, right, two of them working as russian government employees and one of them working as a russian bank employee, so a spy ring, and they're trying to recruit american assets. and they got them. they got this american consultant guy who was hopefully shoveling them information, giving them documents, communicating with them regularly, in the course of the fbi's investigation the fbi even paid a visit to male one, to this american guy who was successfully being recruited by russian spies. and we later found out his name. his name was carter page. the same carter page who later turned up as one of the five named foreign policy advisers to the donald trump campaign. "the washington post" reported in april that the justice department had obtained a fisa warrant to conduct surveillance on carter page as early as the summer of 2016. presidential candidate has an announced foreign policy advisor, someone who the justice department has under surveillance on the basis of the fact the justice department was able to convince a judge that there was reason to believe that guy was a
