when the officer asked me if i had a colorado id, i said, no, i don't have a colorado id. he immediately changed his behavior toward me. he started shouting at me and he ordered that i be arrested. he put the handcuffs on me and my husband said, what can i do for my wife? the police officer responded, you cannot do absolutely anything. and the officer immediately turned me over to ice that same night. that same night in the early morning hours i was interviewed by an ice agent by telephone. so i had my interview with ice, they had charges against me, they took me in on domestic violence charges. my husband was so indignant about that accusation he spoke with the prosecutor, he spoke with him quite a bit and the prosecutor told him, don't worry , i have studied your wife's case very carefully and we are going to drop the charges. so, they dropped the domestic violence charges that they had against me and the judge told me when i was standing before him, i hope sandra that immigration will be compassionate with you. i said, thank you, judge. he knew the system i was facing.

but even we, so colorado was in that position, but even colorado has received really important services through our relationship with dhs. and, like i say, the governmental coordinating council is working very closely with the department of homeland security. so much so that i meet with -- i have a weekly phone call with bob kalas sky who's the department undersecretary that runs the election section. i speak to chris krebs who's his boss on occasion and very important people in the department of homeland security. they clearly are taking this incredibly seriously. and because of that, we're getting very important services very quickly. so even the full on-site two-week sthaextss thassessment doff your entire system, now any state that wants to have one of them done can have them done before the middle of april. that's well in advance of many of the primaries that are going to happen in this cycle and certainly in advance of the general election. so we're really pleased with the services we're receiving from homeland security and from the eac who's done an amazing job partnering as well

" i said i would do it. later he would say "maybe if you have been better stops, someone would have pointed out there are 161 schools. " i went to a school every week for four years. michael, two years later became the superintendent of schools, and played i think a staggeringly important role in transforming public schools. that process of meeting all those teachers, all those parents, that's where you visit the classrooms. it really drove home the fact that everybody has the same -- it's amazing. everybody loves their school, they felt the overall school system was failing. obviously

colorado is close to 94% of our population has coverage. last couple of years, our medicaid costs have been flat. we're reducing emergency room visits, finding ways to control costs, but improve quality every year. it's not perfect, we understand costs are still too high. if you look at any of our states, we are still not where we need to be. in parts of colorado there is a 60 year old man that is spending one third of his total gross income on his health care. the field has been tilted against the middle class. what we are proposing is a plan that will help address some of those in equities. harnessing private sector innovation, making sure we get targeted government action, trying to make sure we protect the most vulnerable when government doesn't. hospitals and doctors are getting paid more when people are still sick. our goal is to make sure there is an incentive and the appropriate motivations to make sure that this balance, or in balance, gets changed. we should reduce incentives for unnecessary care. we should eliminate them. make su

my view is alaska is very different than montana that is different than colorado. and within the budget lines, my perspective is to the extent that i have authority to give flexibility to move the money around, that flexibility should be devolved to the governors and to states. now, i don't have all the flexibility i'd like in congress. but if i have it, my policy is to provide it. related to that i think whether it's this year or in future years we need to start thinking about education as one continuum. because right now we think college, work force college and education. and we're setting up these artificial distinctions that i think are unnecessary that imply that one is better than the other and that artificially skewed choice. and so to me if you have a family sustaining job you enjoy, that is good thing. and whether that was obtained after going to law school or whether that was obtained because you went to culinary school. the question should be do you have a family sustaining job that you enjoy. and as we look to funding and work force program, and even in
