pg and he control and e providen service to san francisco and that's been the case since san francisco began providing electricity service in the early 1900s. here is a condensed summary of the efforts the city has undertaken to overcome the difficulties and accessing distribution services. the city attorney and p.u.c. have worked together on this effort. you can see that beginning in 1913, with the breaker act san francisco's been providing electricity service from the early 25 to 45 timeframe, we had access to distribution, only through pg and e by selling our power and pge delivered it to our customers. we overcame that challenge after the u.s. supreme court said that that was not a lawful implementation of the rate rack s it took us a little bit but we did get together with pg and e and came seath as the inner sex agreement to make sure that pg and e provided that distribution service to us. >> in the 90s the law changed and there was a open access era to transmission and distribution services. when our inner connection agreement was scheduled to expire in 2015, we began work to pr

san francisco obviously doesn't control that. the best of all -- in the best of all worlds, the bill would be defeated. but there is pressure to generate some mandate to impose on cities including charter cities of which san francisco is one. a clean and simple approach would be to seek an exemption from application of the bill limited to san francisco's equivalent of historic district or historic resources. to even get to that point, it will be important for san francisco to engage with other similar departments in other cities or nonprofit affiliates to see if there is agreement among a fairly broad-based group to seek such an exemption, soo if you can agree on what it ought to cover. there is no assurance we'll get it, but the opportunity for an exemption for something like this is probably greater than realistically getting an exemption for the whole city from the bill. so, i would urge you to work with staff including the city attorney's office. seeing what you can come up with, seeing whom you should engage p with because t

i've lived in san francisco. our companies been here for about 13ers i can't years, and during that time we've all seen the challenges that people are facing out on the streets. it's hard to know what to do and sometimes you're facing the problems with homelessness. myself and my company we're lucky. a lot of people on the street haven't had those opportunities, and that's just not fair. just hoping this is a small step that we can take to help convert that feeling of homelessness and turn that into action. thought it might be helpful to share a little bit about our philanthropy story. in 2013 we wanted to make a little bit more of an impact in changing our community. we brought on a philanthropy advisor megan mctiernen. thank you megan. megan helped us get started who helped us sign up with the san francisco foundation, setup a donor advice fund. we started donating 5% of our profits to charity at that time. in 2015, we went ahead and joined something called the 1% pledge, which is an organization that encourage

eric brooks speaking on behalf of the san francisco green party, our city and also public net san francisco. so i would want to give a big thumbs up to what you just raised and note that it's very as i'm sure you all know it's very imminent. we have cpmc-sutter health that is basically shirking a lot of agreements that it made with the public to properly serve, especially the area where st. luke's is at in the mission. we're getting a raw deal from cpmc, and so we need to do something about that, and it would be great to have a hearing next month about cpmc about all of it and how to figure out how we're not going to let these nonprofits, and people who make millions of dollars a year in their own salaries, not giving san francisco the support it needs, especially when it comes to mental health beds, which continue to decline, except a couple of weeks ago there was one spot of bright news that we don't have enough. also on publishes, ownership of public resources the public broad band internet issue is now very imminent. the mayor's office is going to move on it before mayor farrell leaves.

as the city of san francisco. so today we are announcing the transition of the san francisco bay area water fleet to 100% renewable diesel. we are taking this bold step, and when we do, we will become the first region in the entire country to achieve this goal. let me repeat that. once again in the city of san francisco, we will be the first in the country to lead on the environment. it will help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by another 60% on the water and cutback on the diesel pollutants that affect our air. four of the bay areas ferry providers will be making the switch to diesel here in 2018 and 2019, including our fire department, which will make the transition this year in the city of san francisco. i do want to thank all the ferry providers for joining with the city of san francisco to make this happen. this does not happen alone. it takes strong partnerships. i want to thank our fire department in particular, chief hayes-white and all the leaders that are here today on this issue. i want to thank deb
