san francisco, 64 degrees. 73 today in san jose. we should be in the low 80s, but we're not going to be there today or the next couple of days. as you're getting dressed this morning, you do need a jacket and you'll be comfortable with some jeans on today. it's one of those days with those winds pick up. you'll want to make sure you have at least an extra layer or two. we're also seeing the clouds moving by with the trough that brought uses cooler temperatures. this is an elongated area of low pressure that brings in a change of temperatures. that's what we're seeing right now. then we shift all the way over toward what's happening for our friends and family around north carolina, south carolina. this is such a wide storm. the wind field has expanded, meaning it has spread out and a wider swath of area dealing with at least some hurricane-force winds. can you see how wide this is as i put the measuring tool on the screen. 770 miles wide. this will have a major impact over the next few days. now one of the major concerns will be the

oakland 53 and san francisco at 54. the temperatures our daytime highs set to cool off a tad bit today but not expecting a major drop in temperatures yet. we have the ridge dominate over california. your 24-hour temperature change we have a couple of areas here and there of low cloud cover through half moon bay and in through hayward but the rest as far as livermore goes is five degrees cooler at this hour. the air quality as you head outside this morning, north bay, bay and coast, inland east bay we have active wildfires burning. therefore the conditions remain moderate through the inland east bay. as far as the south bay in santa clara valley we're good to go there but dealing with smoke off to the north. if you are dealing with respiratory issues limit outdoor activity. as far as your daytime highs for today this ridge of high pressure will start getting inched out falling apart as the trough begins to take over. the trough will lower temperatures. let's talk about a slight cooling expected for today. 80 degrees for

in san francisco. >> i do, kari. here is the uptate. the entire bay is a smooth drive for most of these areas. sensors in the green zone. the crash is reported to chp as northbound 101 around cesar chavez. the southbound side is the one that's slowing so either the report direction is incorrect or it's enough of a distraction that it does slow folks down and now slowing down just after you get off the skyway and make that transition around octavia. i'll bring you the latest, but again, you do see the slowing on our sensors for the southbound side of 101, slows to about cesar chavez. 101 south of 280 is completely fine and so is 280 into the city. the bay bridge toll plaza still very light, smooth drive, much smoother and lighter than yesterday. we have this recovery which continues but very quick return to the yellow zone, back up into the 50-mile-per-hour range. the earlier locked up big rig, the fedex big rig has been cleared from lanes and south 242 still a little slow. it will ripple back but so far you're okay b

san francisco 55 degrees. we've got our wind speeds nice and light at about 5 miles per hour and today's forecast is going to be significantly cooler. in fact, the topping out temperatures will only be in the 80s. the ridge of high pressure is finally leaving us, which means farewell to the summer-like temperatures and we're going to deal with cooler more like fall around here. concord 80 degrees. livermore 78 degrees and let's talk about the changes ahead, because this is important. i want to help you plan out your weekend so we've got the first system, it's an upper low approaching from the west, and this is going to start inching in and as that happens, our temperatures will cool off, but also we get a chance of seeing some scattered showers particularly in the north bay, and that's going to stick off to the north bay for saturday and sunday. our best bet seeing more widespread showers will come on monday into tuesday with the arrival of a second system, but now our models are trending a little bit lighter.

while san francisco still has temperatures reaching into the low to mid-60s. mike, that traffic alert still continues in oakland? >> it does, kari, on the nimitz freeway, folks. the rest of the bay looking great and we are seeing that big volume over the last 20 minutes for hayward and the south bay pushing north out of san jose but yes, that traffic alert continues right here, southbound 880, as you're traveling down through the area downtown. very big issue, as the crash there still blocks at least your left lane, possibly your left two lanes. that will continue to be a problem, folks. as you're traveling northbound, because that crash is over in the center divide area, a big distraction and a big backup suddenly forming over the last ten minutes, much more traffic flow in that direction as well. back out to waze, if you are member of a waze team you can join in and get more information. we have a report of about a 25-minute delay in the southbound direction, waze calculates that out, comes from an unnamed wazer. we thank that wazer, get that name and put it
