wolfrum? >> members of the rules committee, my name is andrew wolfrum, and i thank you for hearing our reappointments today. i'm up for the historic act tec architect seat, and i'm a principle at a an architectural firm in the bay area. i'm honored that i served on the commission since 2009. and the last four years as president. and in that time, the historic preservation commission has made many accomplishments. we've designated numerous landmarks, in underrepresented parts of the city. we've had a major focus on cultural legacy and cultural history, and the setting up of the legacy business registry, which we feel is very important. one of the major roles of the historic preservation commissioner is a more technical one, and that is we approve alterations to landmarks. how do you balance necessity and historic preservation, because a lot of them have barriers to entry, and we're trying to make the city more accessible to people, and how do you deal with failing building materials? in my prof

. >> commissioner wolfrum. >> thank you. it's certainly a complicated project and i'm commenting on it on one hand as somebody who is a big fan of the lawrence thompson work and also i ride my bike on the street everyday and risk my life doing so. [ laughter ] >> so the project is needing to happen. i think that the thing so interesting about market street is that it's a completely designed street that has such a distinctive identity and has a cultural landscape and holds togetheron with thtogether, eves that have happened over time. so it's a distinctive part of sanfrancisco and historic part of san francisco that on one hand i'll be sorry so see go but i think the eir does address the preservation thinks well and unfortunate that they really don't, for the most part work or fulfill the project needs, like certainly the full preservation, like what would be the point of doing it at all? >> there would be no change. >> i mean, it doesn't seem like it would really address the critical shortcomings. >> also a no project altern
