led to chaos at the great mall in milpitas. ktvu's andre senior joins us now with this very late breaking news. >> reporter: i'm standing along great mall park where we can see the entrance is blocked off to the mall. all the other entrances around the mall are blocked off as well. this one behind me is the same scene all see all over the mall. i spoke with milpitas police a short time ago and they want to emphasize this. there was no active shooter in the mall, but they did give us details about what was happening inside. this happened during the 7 p.m. hour here. three people came into the mall and went into a jewelry store and started smashing jewelry cases. apparently customers and workers in the mall mistook that noise for gunshots and people started to run. police arriving on the scene here and they placed the mall into lockdown. they got everyone out of the area and went into the mall to look for anyone who may have sheltered in place. listen to some of the shoppers we spoke with just a short time ago. >> we just hear people running and then they said that there was shots
