as you know, and i know that director brinkman has already brought this up at the last board meeting supervisor avalos and i introduced a resolution, a planning process to create san francisco's version of vision zero, a plan that's been adopted in chicago and new york really modeled off of what has happened in several countries in europe to reduce all traffic fatalities over the next ten years, so, in 20 24. as you know our pedestrian strategy which was introduced last year has already set strong goals of reducing serious and fatal injuries 20% by 2025, 15% by [speaker not understood]. [speaker not understood] sfmta is on board with achieving this very aggressive but we feel a very doable goal. as you all know, the stats and fatalities are absolutely 100% preventable and it's about getting all of our agencies to work together to be able to achieve that goal. a lot of people play a role in that, but, of course, a critical role sfmta can play what time asking for your support is how we can fund the engineering component of vision zero. am ion time as well? >> we will ask you a questio

. >> i'd be happy to second chair brinkman's motion to approve this policy. and in doing so would align myself with the comments of supervisor wiener and also you, chair nolan. as director reiskin said, the outset of this discussion, there are a lot of issues balled up in this that are coming to the fore today and we're hearing some passionate statements concerning those issues. but at the end of the day, this is before us as a transit issue and we're better with something than nothing as you yourself said, chair nolan. you know, we've heard some opponents of this program describe it as admitted class warfare and describe it as, you know, sort of an effort to make it harder for folks who work outside of the county to live in the county and commute out. i don't align myself with those views. i think this is a transportation issue and we have a duty to provide and facilitate transportation, especially transit first transportation for our citizens. as you've noted, we are on the context of the state restriction that prevents us from charging more than cost recov

and especially supervisor kim for coming through and passing on your message, as well as vice-chair brinkman for suggesting that we adopt vision zero. i'm also very supportive of it. looking forward to that discussion when it comes in february. my concern is a greater sense of urgency if at all possible. there was a mention of a crisis response team or an intervention team. if there is any chance that we can actually do something to that effect before we even get there. i know that there's a lot of support for visions and statements of support and plans and strategies. as a pedestrian in safe, i feel like i do take my life into my hands every day i step into a street in the city. i can't imagine what it must be like to not have your loved ones come home. especially in a situation where we can fix that. we can change that. i'm hoping with the sense of support that we're hearing from the supervisors and maybe from the ta that there might be something that we can do in true response, crisis response fashion, putting together a team and responding with some concrete solutions that we can do -- t
