director beach -- director brinkman? director brinkman: i was just looking at the budget -- bust collision data. to me, this ties in with the data. i would assume the a lot of those probably happen at intersections, and if we are working to sort out those intersections, then i know we had member consent if he meetings to go about looking at best practices for non signalized intersections, and i believe that this is quite expensive. it is going to be interesting. if we can find a way to organize those and get rid of them, would you agree that a lot of those are probably happening? >> we are still analyzing this, but we are looking at the bus stops, the near side and the far side, and the light turns green. across the intersection, you have people going around the bus, so we are looking at things like that. director brinkman: this is so the bus is not having to pull in and out of traffic. this does not mean that nothing -- nothing else goes forward until the environmental review process goes forward. we are still working o

thank you, director brinkman. secretary boomer: the director'' report. director: just a few highlights to touch on, i met last week with the d.a. and some folks from the police department, and we talked a little bit about the episode, the issue in terms of the enroll enforcement plays in pedestrian safety, and we touched briefly on some things happening, in terms of pedestrian safety last meeting, and we will be bringing a more complete report. we all know that we need to make sure that the enforcement is working correctly and that we are well coordinated on it, so we are actively working with the police department and the district attorney's office on that. so just a handful of things to update you on, starting out with the central subway. some very good news in the president's budget that was just introduced or submitted to congress last week, another $150 million allocation for the central subway. that is the amount that is in our spending plan as far as the applications. we are very pleased to see that president obama included in in his proposed budg

we also had directors brinkman and oka. as it relates to "bike to work" day, it is on your calendar, the 17th annual, set for next thursday, may 12. to attract more people, the mta posted a brown bag lunch and last week. members of the san francisco bike coalition shared a behind the scenes look into what made "but to work day" resounding success over the last three years. there have been expansions to the bike network since the injunction was lifted 18 months ago. we have included 19 bike lane projects, adding 11 miles to the bicycle route. we have installed 2400 and cameras on 24 miles of roadway. we have put into place by cracks and by corals. -- bike racks and bike corals. we have seen improved safety and more people on bikes every year. we have seen an increase in 48% of 40 it -- we have seen an increase of 40% of people using bicycles in the last four years. please let our board secretary know if you plan on participating. you may be well aware that one of the other hats i hold is a board member with the caltrans oper

brinkman: thank you. i did get a briefing from staff, much appreciated. it was very good. after spending an hour with you guys i still have a few more questions. could you, mr. montoya, detail more about the pedestrian safety aspects. >> yes. so if we could go back to the last slide here. so what we're proposing is that every intersection in the project area on oak street and fell street between scott and baker that we would install continental crosswalks with the big wide stripes across them that we've adopted in it san francisco as our high visibility crosswalk. we're also installing advanced stop bars which sort of remind people who drive and who ride a bike they need to stop before the crosswalk and not in the crosswalk. we're also making sure that -- all the locations already have pedestrian signal heads but making sure the timing is setd set up to be within the standards -- the more generous than required standards that we have in san francisco. and also the bal bouts. we're proposing 13 ball bouts

director brinkman? >> i would like to talk about the second resolve, hybrid electric compressed natural gas, et cetera. i understand what we're trying to get to with our fleet is the emissions control. it's not just fuel-efficiency, correct? >> that is correct. >> and i do know that even if it may seem that the technology is not there for the larger vehicles, at this moment, that the auto industry is moving so quickly on technology and on fuel-efficiency and every time that the bar is raised, they meet it and they beat it. so i am confident on that one. i hear miss housman's concern on that, but i'm confident that question address the higher-capacity vehicles with the low emissions that we're striving for to have a truly green fleet. we have to remember unlike a private vehicle, these vehicles are in operation 23 hours a day, so it really adds a huge impact on our city. the big thing that i hear is the hailing technology. i think that is probably, aside there figuring out what we'll do with the list, th

so i second the comments made by director brinkman and director heinicke and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this so far. i do recognize this is not a permanent solution. i realize a lot of tweaking has to happen between now and putting this to bed, if we'll ever be able to do that, but i do believe we have an obligation to provide a service to the people that we're -- people that live, work and visit here. when i make a phone call to take a cab and told it's 45 minutes to get one, i can pretty much work anywhere in 45 minutes in this city. the other thing that i do want to really second director heinicke's comments with respect to uber cab's success or uber's success is this idea of putting up a fee upfront to make sure there is no-no-go, because i know for folks that don't have a hand in how this industry works out, what people will often do is call three cab companies and take the first one that picks up. that is a sad reality when people need to get someplace quickly, 45 minutes unfortunately is not acceptable. so looking forward to moving this policy along and ad

staff like to welcome our new director, director cheryl brinkman. we look forward to working with you over the next few years. i'd like to begin my report with recognizing our staff for outstanding service and contribution that they've made to the agency. our first award goes to debra reed. debra, could you please step up to the podium? debra serves as our secretary for the citizens advisory council and has been with the agency for five years. as you know, the c.a.c. is a 15-member board that has four committees and one full c.a.c. meeting each month. when debra began supporting the c.a. crmplt, the position had been vacant for several months with no direction about how to proceed. and debra took over the reigns and figured out how to get that job done. she goes beyond the call of duty to keep all of our meetings on track from scheduling topics and speakers to c.a.c. members' requests for information. although the job is very demanding, debra handles it with great grace and quiet dignity. her commitment to the agency is exemplified by the long hours
