frederick with more -- in frederick with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning andrea and mike. you know protestors and police are expecting a very business zeh weekend ahead. we're here in baker park. it is dark now and quiet but you can expect thousands of protestors to be gathering here. that's because the two camp grounds closest to camp david have been shut down. for the summit. the g-8 summit will be held about 20 miles away. the small town of thurmont is the closest community. folks hire and in neighboring frederick are bracing themselves for a very busy weekend including an all-out traffic nightmare. police say they are going to have more men and women on the streets for the first time. a joint council of officers from eight different maryland agencies including local universities like morgan state university, and baltimore and university of maryland, they will all be here working to keep the peace. >> most cities that get notified about an event like this get two years planning time. we've had actually eight weeks

this is a bust of captain frederick pabst, and frederick pabst actually was born in germany in 1836 and had emigrated with his parents when he was 12 in 1848. they came to milwaukee, but milwaukee was such a small town at that point that they really felt that their chances were better for success in chicago, and so they went down to chicago, and that's where captain pabst's mother died in the cholera epidemic of 1849. so frederick, when he was a teenager, was interested in a maritime career, and so he joined the great lakes steamship company as a cabin boy and then worked his way up to captain, and so that's what we have the title of captain. and it was while he was serving on a ship on lake michigan in the 1860s that he actually met his future father-in-law who was philip best of the best brewing company. phillip best had an eldest daughter maria, and so maria and frederick pabst courted for two years and then were married in 1862. now, frederick pabst enjoyed his career on the great lakes, and so he remained a captain for another two years until he finally retired and bought an equal

the heavy rain from frederick to urbana and some lightning, too, and lessened up a bit. leesburg, looks like you're just south and east and in green here, you see the counties that have some flash flood warnings until 7:45 and that is meaning the flooding is occurring and coming out of the banks and here we see what is going on in to leesburg and that is looking like some of the heavier rain is -- and the hail potential as well and still capable of gusty winds and some lightning and this is moving across to 270 now and showing you the 3d vow and everything we're watching is far north or west of the city and that is slowly moving in this direction and these are the updrafts and show us where the strongest storms are, the ones capable of producing damage. the wind and hail and drop a very huge amount of rain and we'll watch that, yes, lightning and mostly confined north and west. keep your eyes to the sky with a late practice and we also wanted to show you the rain that has been falling in addition to the rain and that is close to it and estimated here, 2 1/2 here and long

frederick county, maryland. you are really getting hammered. there's a ton of line, extremely heavy rain. if you're out there along route 15 toward the kreegerstown area, watch out. there's a lot of line with this. very, very heavy rainfall. i wouldn't be surprised to see maybe 40, 50, even 60-mile-an-hour winds from these storms as they move off toward the east and watch this. still a severe thunderstorm warning. in effect until 6:30 for eastern washington and northbound portions of frederick county. i would not be surprised to see another storm warning. the green is a flash flood warning in effect until 7:45. hagerstown toward frederick. a lot of rain has fallen, one to two inches of rain. some areas, a little more. we have seen some flash flooding. never drive through flooded roadways. just to the north and west of leesburg, if you live in leesburg, get ready. you will see that rain very, very quickly as this line makes its way toward the south and east. we're seeing some strong storms. this will move to the east. we are going to see this li

extreme western frederick county. weather service just issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:45 for those areas am we'll take a quick look in that region now. one of these cells did produce small hail and gusty winds. there you see it. right over portions of western frederick county. and a little southern washington county. between williams port and middletown, there you go. one cell there. and one cell across the potomac, just to the east of martinsburg. if you're out in that region, you might experience gusty winds. and maybe dangerous lightning. and even small hail, with these particular cells. just two of them. don't think they'll make it much past the mountains. as it's much cooler here in the eastern section of maryland. to the west, much warmer. hagerstown. cumberland now recovered up to 86 degrees. 67. only 62 now. 56, elkton. and only 54, ocean city. temperatures right now, are running 18 degrees cooler than yesterday at this hour. 23 degrees cooler up in elkton. and 28 degrees cooler in ocean city. ti

a severe thunderstorm warning now for southern frederick county. that storm has blossomed in just west of frederick making its way to the east, southeast. the storm is pretty close to the national battlefield. moving southeast at 18 miles per hour. should arrive in brown's bill around 6:30. the winds could dust around 60 miles per hour. -- should arrive in brownsville around 6:30. that store making its way down the 270 corridor. so far the cooler weather around here keeping the storms to the west of us. the high temperature was well short of normal. typical height is 70. 65 at the airport. 68 downtown. morning temperatures were mild, too. the temperature did not change much at all. a trace of precipitation last night. we will keep an eye on the site and radar screen to see if any more showers or storms move in. not enough rain to clean the atmosphere of the pollen. high amounts of pollen in the atmosphere today. look at the temperature contrast from 56 at dover's air force base in 54 at ocean city. were you moved west and the sun is warming things

area is here from frederick county north of frederick, carol and now maybe coming down into howard county over the next half hour or so and a little bit of lightning in the northern part of the eastern shore. clouds around. temperatures are cool. we're in the mid-50s around the metro area. near 60 to our south and farther to the north where they're getting rain, low 50s along the pennsylvania border. now for this afternoon, the high temperatures are going to show a wide variety. you may get showers developing in the mountains. those may roll east later in the afternoon. before then, though, they would have climbed to around 80 but only near 70 on the eastern side of the bay, western side of the bay. maybe only low 750s. hitting 80s throughout much of virginia. hometown forecast for plato. mid and upper 70s. as we do get into the rest of the evening this time tomorrow morning, those rain activities should be dissipating. there's a small chance of a shower tomorrow morning and then tomorrow afternoon a thundershower. highs mid-80s. over the weekend turning cooler by sunday. maybe a thunder

so, we're looking at this storm is going to roll through middletown and frederick and myersville and this storm, this has hail in it. just to the south of sharpesburg and hail also in this part of the storm and this is going to move off toward lovetsville and into north western montgomery county. you know that okay, i'm in north western montgomery county, i could get a big storm here in the next hour or so. so, it certainly has some heavy rain. there's no doubt about that. we're looking at rain fall rates 1 to 2 inches per hour and this is a storm we'll concentrate on. moving to the southeast at 18 miles per hour and here are some of the areas it might impact or it will impact. pleasant valley at 6:30. pine hill estates at 6:37. so if you're down in this area, you have time to actually go out and put your umbrella down, if you put your umbrella up and if you hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning. you need to get away from these storms as well. the warnings continue until 6:45. we will keep you posted. we are looking at hail with that one storm, that's pretty much a given. the
