good morning, i'm chris jansing. washington lawmakers getting close to something that almost never happens these days, a deal. they're headed back to d.c. right now to hammer out the details, but this budget agreement may not be much to write home about. the "washington post" basically called the agreement a cease-fire. we don't know many of the details but it's no grand bargain. it doesn't deal with entitlements, the debt or tax reform and probably won't completely fix the sequester, but aides for senator patty murray and congressman paul ryan, the budget chairs working on the deal are at least determined to keep the government open and they think they can get the plan together for a vote later this week. one of the final sticking points in the deal could be unemployment. friday the unemployment rate dropped to 7%. that's the lowest since november of 2008. federal benefits expire at the end of the year and it's not clear if an extension would be included in any budget deal. >> i don't think we've reached that point

. >>> good morning, i'm chris jansing. this morning a big test for healthcare.gov has thousands are expected to sign for coverage today with an improved website. the white house says there's been a huge progress. 50,000 people can now log on simultaneously, meeting the president's self-imposed deadline over the weekend. they also say the site is now working more than 90% of the time. compare that to just 40% in october. and it now takes pages less than one second to load. eight times faster than the average just in late october. but the obama administration admitted this morning on "the daily rundown" it's still not running ads or doing any marketing trying to drive traffic to the site. >> we wanted to see how these first few days go. if we're getting a lot of traffic, then we don't feel the need to drive it. our view is we are not doing that because we don't need to do that in terms of driving traffic. we're going to monitor. it's not about confidence in the site, it's about whether or not you actually need to drive traff

i'm chris jansing, and this morning we're looking at what the president calls the defining challenge of our time, income and equality. he's got a lot of statistics to back him up, but consider just this one. between 1978 and 2011 worker compensation has gone up by 5.7%, on average, for most of us, for a ceo, they've gotten a 725% raise. fast food workers say they are living examples of the effect of income and equality. today thousands of them are walking off the job in more than a hundred cities off the country demanding to be paid $15 an hour. >> i actually work two jobs. i work mcdonald's and wendy's and it's still not enough. the cost of living still seems to be rising over my head and still making difficult, daily sacrifices and i work two job, minimum wage is just not enough. >> president obama gave those protesters a boost yesterday. >> we know that there are airport workers and fast food workers and nurse assistants and retail sales people who work their tails off, and are still living at or barely above poverty, and that's why it's well past the time to raise a minimum wage

i want to play james lankford speaking to chris jansing last hour. >> those would be good things, 100,000 people getting involved if there weren't five million people that just two months ago weren't kicked off their insurance. so 100,000 people signing up when five million people lost it is a tough figure. you've still got millions that don't have insurance and have had difficulty signing up. if they don't sign up quickly in the next three weeks, people that were insured are going to lose insurance in january. >> so these are people, again, that the congressman there was referring to. people that lost their insurance or people that bought policies that were going to be purged because it didn't meet the standard of care under the aca. now, our nbc first read team points out not a single republican the last two weeks are talking about repealing the health care law. the language of repeal. so do you think that that has gone away, that language, and now republicans should be expected to confront the president's message but know that this law is here to stay? >> yeah, i think the republicans
