cory booker only had a small following but four or 5% in iowa is not that small. what do the booker supporters think on a day like this? >> it's a big deal for the remaining candidates. you look at the numbers and they're all within touching distance of one another. when those will be a big priority to all of these candidates. we've seen elizabeth warren reaching out to supporteders of other people that have left the race. it's an important jostle but in a place like iowa, it was tough for cory booker to get beyond a reasonable doubt 4%. the voters don't look like the voters in the rest of the electorate in the country and it's a tougher race for them and the inability to raise money, made it difficult for him to stay in. >> you said, as i was asking, your prognostications. you said remember how much energy, how much fuel iowa or a new hampshire right now. at the end of the day in iowa does that still hold? the top person get it is fuel or a muddle where there's like everybody does okay and perhaps someone gets credit for being a surprise? >> i'll tell you, peter.

booker, it seems like a lot of iowansaucuses, they like cory booker, right? he just wasn't their top choice, maybe he was second or third choice. you argued that maybe he could be a surrogate or maybe even a vice presidential running mate. who do you think that would be for? >> i think that remains certainly an open question. he was a happy warrior who really, early on, was one of the first candidates to really pitch this message of unifying a fractured electorate, right, even more so for him than defeating the president. that seemed to be a priority for him, was really bringing the country together. it will be interesting to see who maybe absorbs some of those ideas into their platform and who else could carry that message forward. that could maybe be an indication of who he could consider. i know that right now the senator is mainly focused on his own reelection. he will be running for reelection in the senate, but certainly i think continues to have a role to play headed into the primary and into november. >> erin, thank you so much. errin haines, thank yo

but right now cory booker needs a moment. he needs a break-out moment. we'll see if that can happen. >> let's talk about the state by states. michigan is interesting where you spent four years as a wolverine. wisconsin is interesting. do you buy into -- are these any state by states you look at and think, okay, i buy that as a real ticket to the bank trend for the snapshot in time that it is? >> yes. here's what happe here's what's interesting. i think the most important status to look at what happened in 2018 in the midterms. both wisconsin and michigan elected democratic governors that year. the turnout was massive in those states. and i think trump wasn't even on the ballot. so really democrats should be looking at both wisconsin and michigan, and also pennsylvania as opportunities for pickups. same with virginia. and so they really need to drive up turnout. the margin of victory for trump in 2016 was something like 11,000 votes. so you need to win over more white working class voters, but you also need to go to your base, which is both young people a

and even kamala harris and cory booker when they were in the race. this whole issue of whether the " is goingve community to different direction from the voters?african-american how do you see that shifting in the coming months? >> i think it is going to shift. first of all, i think bernie sanders has support in the african-american community and he has more support than people would give him credit for. polls show that he has support, particularly among african-american 35 years old and younger. i think as we actually moved into the primary season, as the field narrows, that more and more african-americans are going to see that bernie sanders is the candidate that best represents their interests. amy: you decided to run against senator booker. booker has just pulled out of the race. i don't know if that has anything to do with you announcing right before he pulled out that you are going to be challenging him. >> i was surprised that senator booker pulled out before the iowa caucus. he had been saying his strategy was similar to that of barack obama

cory booker and andrew yang will not be there. on one hand, cory booker is right when he says the field of candidates should reflect the party's voters. on the other hand, black and brown voters are speaking by polling and joe biden seems to be their choice? >> if that question is for me, i would say there is a disconnect between where the field started. i think it underscores the democrat's desire showing what it takes and the resolve for donald trump and to boot him from the white house. when i talk to democrats, a lot of folks express their differences and tend to book end those comments with, i'll take whatever i can get to beat donald trump in november. one of the reasons he's going to do that is to go through president trump in campaign spending. >> the other way he could do it is to spend all of that money now. everyone has a right to run for president, i suppose. the question is what is the most productive use of a billionaire's money? to run a vanity campaign or to start on a senate race. on running just impeachment ads.
