not on that list, david wildstein, bridget kelly, any other port authority employee. we have also learned that the governor's troubles have now expanded into new york as the district attorney for manhattan has issued subpoenas for documents and records between christie staffers and port authority officials. according to "the wall street journal," that request is part of an investigation into port authority construction projects, including the rebuilding of the world trade center site. today, anthony sarter, a long-time commissioner of the port authority who was in charge of the redevelopment of the world trade center submitted his resignation. if that wasn't enough, three officials with the ethics commission are accusing governor nor christie's office of, quote, unprecedented interference with an agency set up to be free of political influence. christie, they say, pushed the agency commissioner at a time when she was investigating a member of his staff and in so doing christie crossed a line no other governor had before. joining me now is sal rizzo who reported the st

investigation has run into uncooperative witnesses and is trying to convince a george that bill stepian and bridget kelly must turn over the documents as requested. they released e-mails that's supposed to show that bill stepian was in the loop. wisniewski said this kind of flow of information itself was suspicious. >> those communications were not westbound the port authority. remember, this was supposed to be a port authority traffic study. but these were communications that went to the governor's campaign manager, bill stepian among others. so it really shows that there was a significant political component to what was going on here. we don't know why. we're trying to get that answer. but clearly, involving all of these folks from the campaign, running by them the press strategy indicates there was some political element to this. >> some political element. now that is all about the state investigation. if the court doesn't force those witnesses to turn over documents, part of the trail may go cold. but then there is the separate independent federal investigation. tonight, "the new york times" is

and back in new jersey, bridget kelly's lawyer is reopening the story today. he files a response to the investigative committee saying look, bridget kelly absolutely needs fifth amendment protection because you're out there saying crimes have been committed. you members of the committee. and then he tells us how much of an fbi investigation is closing in on bridget kelly in his response document. he said, an investigator for the u.s. attorney's office, that, of course, would be an fbi agent, attempted to contact ms. kelly and also attempted to contact ms. kelly's parents, ex-husband and other in-laws to ask questions about ms. kelly. additionally, this office was contacted by the u.s. attorney's office, seeking to interview ms. kelly. and the point of him revealing all of that to the committee is look, she's under criminal investigation. she needs this fifth amendment protection. >> yeah. and it's -- her filing is very similar to the one bill steppian's lawyer put forward last week. those are the most significant things we' learned in the last week about this.

bridget kelly, chris christie's now fired deputy chief of staff, and bill stepian, his fired campaign manager are now pleading the fifth amendment. as the person who offered the e-mail stating that it was time for traffic problems for ft. lee, ms. kelly certainly has relevant information about the subject matter. committee was well within its rights to ask ms. kelly, a statement employee, using state resources to communicate about the official state action of closing access lanes to produce any further information she has. joining me now is a democratic strategist and former council to the house judiciary committee. there's david samson in his little apology note at that public hearing. attributing what happened at the george washington bridge to the actions of a few individuals. that list of individuals is expanding every day. it may very well include dr. samson himself, who is deeply entrenched in this whole story. but now we're finding out about chip michaels, this police officer who seems close to camp christie who was driving david wildstein around as an additional e-mail communi

christie famously fired bridget anne kelly without speaking to her. she was the first person christie should have spoken to after her e-mail time for some traffic problems in ft. lee but he didn't. and his deliberate choice not to speak to bridget kelly lost him that opportunity of solving all or most of the mystery at the george washington bridge instantaneously. in his press conference on the subject, chris christie gave this reason for not speaking to her. >> well, i certainly wouldn't tamper with a witness, but i could be accused of tampering with the witness. >> chris christie is no longer concerned about being accused of tamper with witnesses by conducting his own investigation. an investigation that thus far we know to be targeted not at anyone who has been fired by chris christie in this scandal or is still working for chris christie, but we do know that the investigation is aimed at don zimmer, the mayor of hoboken who has made what the "star ledger" newspaper has called a credible charge of extortion against the christie administration. this
