we under president obama said when he was in cannes he discussed the upcoming report with president sarkozy at g-20 and leaving for asia next week where he'll talk to leaders of russia and china saying we need to put up the heat on iran. >> there's this drum beat, this resounding drum beat involving war possibly with iran and israel would play a role potentially. explain more about this. >> reporter: well the u.s. is down playing these reports. we heard from reports in israel that prime minister benjamin netanyahu had been looking to the cabinet to authorize some kind of military strikes suggesting that they are considering it. i spoke to officials. they said when iran is loud about these type of charges, when we see a lot of reports then we don't worry so much. but when they go quiet that's when we worry. on the other hand, military officials are saying they are concerned that possibly israel would attack iran and they are going to be looking at israel and iran very carefully. right now the u.s. is saying it wants to use diplomatic measures, economic pressure, political pressure on iran. i

the g-20 was going to flesh out more details of that deal here on the riviera in cannes. now it's going to all be about the crisis that is rapidly escalating in the euro area. the greek prime minister, george papandreou, is going to arrive here today to have an emergency meeting with president sarkozy of france and angela merkel, the german chancellor. really to explain to them why he arrived at this surprise decision to put the austerity measures and the bailout to the greek people without telling president sarkozy, without telling the german chancellor, and without even telling his own finance minister who had no idea this referendum was going to be announced. >> so the referendum will definitely be on the ballot, right? >> reporter: yeah. i mean, what he is proposing is having a vote for the greek people to decide if they approve of this bailout package effectively of more deep cuts to public services and the 130 billion euros that is being suggested to bail them out. the problem is that most opinion polls show that greek people may well vote against that. but it might

the german chancellor and the french president asked george papandreou to come here to cannes and sat with him for two and a half hours and he called forraphy rendm on this european rescue plan that was agreed on last week. the greek parliament was supposed to approve it and supposed to happen. they said to him, if this thing fails, that is basically going to mean greece gets removed from the euro zone. 17 countries use the euro and they may not want greece involved. he flew back to anthens and had an emergency cabinet meeting and the reporting out there that we're trying to confirm is that when that meeting is over, the prime minister of greece is going to go to the president's office. now, prime ministers and presidents in parliamentary democracies don't visit each uther for tea. it means either you're calling an election or the government is being dissolved or you are resigning. it is likely that one of those three things is happening very, very shortly. now, the impact of this is if this european deal doesn't go through, it adds more uncertainty to this european crisis and it coul
