carlesha freedland gaither left some clues. according to police, when the 22-year-old nursing assistant was being forced into a car as seen here, she left her cell phone behind. that immediately led investigators know who was missing. she also kicked out one of the car's windows. then when police say barnes drove freedland gaither to maryland, she gave him the pin number to use her atm card. that signaled police in both the transaction and barnes were captured on camera. >> we corroborated on the video that was mr. barnes vehicle he was allegedly driving and mr. barnes using the atm card. >> another officer recognized the used car dealer name on the car. the dealer puts gps tracking systems in the cars of customers with bad credit because of said gps, police were able to pin point the car in a parking lot in jessup on wednesday. as a result this morning barnes is behind bars in a virginia jail cell extradited late last night to face charges in a separate case of kidnapping and attempted murder of a 16-year- old. freedland gaith

wyff news 4's mandy gaither is live and local in our anderson newsroom. mandy, now there's a push to change the law? mandy: right. i've talked to county and state officials on this all day long. all agree that there's nothing in state or county law, as it is right now, thahaprohibits that owner from shooting his dog. 19 days. that's how long it was between the time this boxer, later named amara, was shot, and the time in which she was picked up as a stray in townville. anderson county investigators say the owner shot amara after the owner says she became increasingly aggressive. state law talks about shooting an animal, how it should only be done in emergency situations. however, it's only talking about how animal shelters can and cannot kill an animal, not owners. campbell says there are no laws in the state of south carolina that would make this a crime. campbell says, "animals are considered property of the owner, and as such, there are no criminal laws that prohibit an owner from euthanizung their own -- euthanizing their own animal. this could could

mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in the anderson newsroom. nigel: mandy, thank you. police in south carolina say a medal of honor recipient with south carolina ties faces a hit-and-run charge. police say kyle carpenter is charged with hit and run and making an improper left turn. according to a news release, carpenter is out on bond. police say carpenter hit a pedestrian earlier this month. authorities say the person was treated at the scene for scrapes and a leg injury. carpenter received the medal of honor in 2014, for his actions as a marare in afghanistan in 2010. gabrielle: we have an update tonight, one of three suspects, connected to the death of a faces more charges. larry taylor, jr. is connected to the death of amanda blackburn. blackburn was married to former new spring youth pastor davey blackburn. the murder happened in indianapolis. nbc reports, taylor faces charges in an unsolved murder of a man sho. over $10 on november 4th. blackburn was killed after a burglary. officials say her death was part of a crime spree that started back on november 3. nigel:

mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in easley. michael: scary moments for folks near downtown greenville this afternoon. gunfire on butler avenue. police say one person was injured by shattered glass, when he was caught in the crossfire. officers say gunshots were fired from two different cars. our nigel robertson was driving on butler avenue when he heard the shots. he ducked down in his car, and drove to safety. no arrests and all of this so far. carol: now to powdersville, were several agencies are investigating a wreck that took one man's life this morning. the anderson county chief deputy coroner charle boseman says 62-year-old stephen burnett of easley died at the scene. boseman says the greenville county sheriff's office was chasing a car driven by 25-year-old dexter reeves, when reeves' car collided with burnett's truck at the corner of highway 81 and highway 153. reeves had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. it all happened around 4:30 this

monday, 6:01 p.m., police tracking gaither's atm card says barnes used it 100 miles away at a bank at aberdeen, maryland. at a nearby gas station, surveillance video shows him buying several items, including a bag of herr's south cream and onion potato chips. tuesday a maryland woman found broken glass and other items in her driveway. she called police who found a herr's chip bag and a receipt from a philadelphia grocery store from sunday. wednesday, philadelphia police released video of the suspect in that grocery store. separately virginia authorities already had a warrant out for barnes for a violent october assault on a 16-year-old girl. they saw the surveillance video and make a critical discovery. >> it looked very similar to the vehicle that we had known mr. barnes to drive. >> reporter: virginia authorities tracked the car down to a local used car dealer. the car dealer told them he put a gps on the car because the buyer had bad credit. wednesday night, the gps was activated, and within minutes authorities tracked the car down in the jessup, maryland, parking lot where barnes
