[ horse neighs ] >> aah! >> we are in the midst of "sleepy hollow" country. this is the home of the american heritage of halloween, and we've always had fantastic halloween events in this area, and this is probably one of the best. >> more than 4,000 pumpkins are used to create all sorts of clever and spooky scenes. for some displays, artificial pumpkins are needed, but most are real. we are in front of our jurassic park installation, where we have giant, life-size dinosaurs that are constructed of, in some cases, more than a hundred pumpkins. we sketch them from anatomy books and create them so that they're accurate. each pumpkin represents a specific bone on

because as jack found out, contributing to a good cause, can be a lot of fun! >> they're signing up for the 3:00 time slot. that's 3:00 in the morning, because this is the relay for life. >> relay for life is an overnight event where teams of 8 to 15 people come out, and they take turns walking the track throughout the whole night and raise money to fight back against cancer. >> the motto is "there is no finish line until we find a cure." and people have been marching toward that elusive finish line for more than a quarter century. raising awareness and raising money for research. in one night, this relay in connecticut is bringing in more than $60,000. >> since relay for life first began in 1985, they've raised almost $4 billion! >> all the money we raise goes to the american cancer society, and its put toward research, education, advocacy, and patient services. >> but for many of the people out here tonight, the relay is personal. later on, these memorials will light up the night each with a tribute to a loved one who fought cancer, people like margaret's mom

joining me, jack from the department of transportation. maybe you can explain to us what this meeting is about. >> welcome to our world. we're the state wide operation center. there are 100 cameras all over the state which gives state highway officials the opportunity it take a look at what is going on across the state in southern, western, central maryland and get a pretty good idea of what conditions are and assess the conditions as they stand right now. this has been a very aggressive fight all day long. it will continue all afternoon and into the night. we have the equipment and people out fighting the storm right now. this will continue on. >> when a meeting like this is called, this is something like an emergency type thing, or there's a certain amount of snow that has to fall or ice? what is the protocol? >> traditionally, there have been storms -- not just snow- related storms. we have had heavy rainfall, things of that nature. because all these are consolidated, this is the command center for operations, whether it is fighting flo
