and it was hard for everybody to hear but i think the president was praising secret service director jim clancy for the work that they have dedicated certainly for the president's most recent trip to new york city and visit for the u.n. and also for the hard work they put in to the visit paid by pope francis. again, it was hard for us to hear but the president now back at the white house after two days here in new york for the u.n. and one thing that we have been keeping our eye on is something that could sound like something out of a scary movie. it's treasure hunters scouring a site in poland for a nazi train that disappeared in world war ii. it's believed to contain weapons and looted gold. nbc's chapman bell has more from poland. >> reporter: thomas, day two of the six-day operation has wrapped up here in this area of land behind me where the suspected nazi gold train is thought to be underground. the city called in the military to search for any land mines, unexploded world war ii ordinance, even chemicals. they say when's under the ground they want to make sure it's safe before any

jim, you interviewed joe clancy the director of the united states secret service. what did he tell you about changes that they plan to make? >> pam, secret service director joe clancy was adamant to us telling cnn there bill never again be another fence-jumping intruder who gets inside the white house. we talked to clancy at the training facility for the secret service in maryland just outside the nation's capital about some of the recent embarrassing episodes for his agency and what he's doing about it. he told us he's focusing on training but he also pointed to changes made at the white house, including the white house fence. those new spikes attached to the top of the fence to thwart jumpers. the director conceded in that interview it's not a perfect solution. >> spikes were installed along the white house fence last week. are those spikes going to be a deterrent, do you think? >> we're hoping it will give us some time to react. a little more time. it won't stop every jumper. >> one of the things i say to myself it too is low. >> yes. >> almost anybody could jum

the director jim clancy is being asked to explain what happened about three weeks ago involving two allegedly intoxicated agents driving into a barrier outside the white house. we're also getting the first look at a video of the incident today. it appears to show the car making its way into the white house grounds by going around what turned out to be a bomb threat investigation. it's pretty dramatic, the latest news coming out of capitol hill. >> real dramatic. this says the two agents drove around an active bomb scene. it gives us our first look at the allegations that drinking was involved. the e-mail says quote, officers at the scene said they were both extremely intoxicated. officers were going to arrest both of them but the watch commander said not to. so i want to take a listen to elijah cummings the top democrat on this committee. here's what he had to say after he read this e-mail at the committee this morning. >> but you know what really bothers me? i read this. i kept reading this e-mail this morning over and over and over. and you know what i concluded? it appears that we have an

and we have very high hopes for the new secret service director jim clancy. he has come back to the agency to try to solve these problems. i and john conyers, the ranking democrat on the committee and jason chaffetz the member of the oversight committee and his ranking member elijah cummings will be meeting with director clancy to talk about what measures they're taking to solve the problem. clearly there's a serious morale problem and a serious discipline problem at the agency charged with some of the most important responsibility the, protecting the life of the president and other people around him. >> when you're going over the events of that evening, you left out the part where a senior supervisor let the agents go home without forcing them to take a sobriety test. >> no breath test and yet the report is he smelled the alcohol on their breath and therefore, i don't think they're going to get away with this. but that again, is an example of you know protecting somebody's back rather than protecting the president of the united states. >> well then let me re

i mean what needs to be done to fix the agency jim? >> well if i was going to make a recommendation to him, reverend al i would say that joe clancy needs to get a deputy director from outside the agency. he's been picked by the president as the top man, he can go out and get a deputy from another agency and put him in there and toughen this whole thing up. he's got to take swift action. if you look at the latest thing that happened that you referenced, going through the barricade, two commanders drinking, everything wrong in that seems to be done by a supervisor. the only person who did something right was the line field division officer who wanted to give a sobriety act. when you have supervisors cutting them loose, supervisors not taking the right action you got some real problem. the director's got to get tough. one way he can help that is bring in an outside deputy clamp down on this and make sure when somebody sees misconduct action is taken, it's reported. when you see gonzalez in virginia there's a chance to stop him, stop him.
