i teach at john o'connell saturday mornings. my students range from extremely college ready to getting there, and i love seeing the opportunity to have conversations with people about their future because the very nature of community organizing isn't just about politics, it just about civic engagement. when we talk about paul robeson, they say hey, i'm interested in getting into theater. what does that have to do with theater? same thing with art, being able to tell people that now that they're a city college student, they can take advantage of these program, and that's a beautiful thing, watching people's minds open up to possibilities that were there all along but they didn't know that they were there. so that's great. alex and hillary have both visited -- visited the class. i invite everyone to do this. i believe that this is one of the major pathways towards the equity that we are all -- all striving for. there are many controversies at city college, and this should not be one of them. this is something we should all be unit

this past thursday, students in the john o'connell high school helped -- health and behavioral science pathway demonstrated their e.m.s. skills, like fast stroke recognition, heart attack recognition, c.p.r., including heimlich manoeuvre, c-spine application and bleeding control to local emergency services experts including volunteers with the san francisco fire department. the health and behavioral science pathway helps students prepare for a wide range of health-related career paths in san francisco. tomorrow's -- tomorrow, 67 student musicians from the high school will rehearse as they prepare to march in the national fourth of july parade in washington this summer. the band was invited by nancy pelosi to represent sfusd, san francisco, in the state of california at the annual celebration in the nation's capital. this will be the first -- thank you. i am susan ryan, the very proud principal of john o'connell high. o'connell's different because we're a small school designed to make sure that individual school students at our school fluorish, and i can think of no more important person than samantha aguirre. she makes sure they're successful at o'connell, making sure they have strong literacy and presentation skills. she is an m.v.p. for student leadership, running the student leadership at our school. she's an m.v.p. when it comes to athletics, coaching track and cross-country. she runs social media at o'connell. she's an incredible person, and she's been with us four years. i can't imagine our school without her, and in a special distinction, she is nominated by a parent. i'm sorry, i don't have the words in front of me, but essentially, she is relentless in making sure that every student is successful and making sure every student is a leader in the school. so thank you, mis-aguirre. she's -- ms. aguirre. >> i want to thank our schools on the side of the city that are sometimes hard to staff b

we have a young adults day at john o'connell high school, and i believe that's on wednesday. also going back to i missed inviting you, we have a drill that's going to be going on, on friday at the ocean, the big rescue drill and we'll get the information to you if you're interested in coming. it will be a multi-agency ocean rescue drill. i like to post all of our social media for the public to see and especially our s.f. fire site, it's been a huge success. included in my report is our e.m.s. commission report. i like to thank andy for all the work that he's done and welcome sandy. they're available for any clarification on this report. i also want to give kudos to cochrane, they have done amazing hard work and action to getting all our plans out to the field. they done a great job on 4/20, and that's been a huge help to us. every time we come to work, they click on it and see everything that's happening in their area. it's been a huge help. healthy streets operation center, we continue to work with them. that's another one of our e.m.s. 6 attributes. for commissioner verones

here is just a picture of we're working with john o'connell on the high school e.m.s. day, which was a success, and a picture of some of the command staff and a member, danny grazia attending a barbecue at station 49. it's very great that we're spending sometime with the members at 49. the interaction has been working really well. like i said, the coffee. we had -- starbucks sponsored a coffee with a paramedic, one day with each of the providers. so king american had one day, a.m.s., and r.f.f.e. it was well received. here, we have members of the public committee, loss prevention team, who staffed a safety booth at this year's carnivale at the mission. we'll talk a little bit more about that later. our community outreach continues. this is engine 23 with many of the p.i.o. community outreach events. this was a safety event. whoops, use that slide. district safety fair in the mission. this was a success, and with many community members, we're learning life safety and disaster preparedness with the tools. we've seen this picture before, but in light of some of the events
