chief meteorologist paul deanno says bay area snow is possible tonight. hey, paul. >> it happened earlier today, 2:00 in the afternoon, this radar image captured at 2:15. you see san ramon, the 680 corridor, mount diablo and the purple there would be snow falling above 3,000 feet in elevation, mount diablo certainly above that. so we had snow in our highest elevations earlier today and a chance this evening as showers wind down. we did something in san francisco we have not done in four weeks. it rained officially downtown, a whopping 0.01-inch of rainfall but enough for us having to avoid having an 0 for february. where is it raining right now? very few showers. all the activity is heading east. i believe if i see lightning strikes there, that would be thunder snow to the east of sacramento. we had some showers in napa valley. now it's sitting over american canyon, also vallejo. heading to the south there were showers towards los gatos heading down toward morgan hill and the shower activity is greatly increasing in the sierra and those are four lightning

here's kpix 5 chief meteorologist, paul deanno. paul? >> we've had more hail than rainfall in the bay area over the past couple of weeks. another round of hail with cold unstable air aloft in the area of low pressure that went right down through the central valley right now. the hills surrounding it including snow continuing to fall in and around just to the east of mount hamilton and also a few flakes of snow over the santa cruz mountains. mount diablo getting a break. it has seen some snow off and on, drying out in concord and also walnut creek. let's show you what it looks like. another location that saw some hail earlier today. pellets of ice hitting the ground are, also hitting the windshield as you can see in a second. not just a little bit of hail, but a truckload full of hail in our state capital, sacramento. kids were out having a hail ball fight if you will. going out there, enjoying what looks like a snowstorm in sacramento. not snow, but hail and a lot of it. how much rain fell? this is the best part of it. hail is not going
