this is the first film warren beatty has directed since bulworth and it's a film he has been working on for 30 years and i hear, you know, obviously he is someone who is a perfectionist and wants to get things just right. what was the audition process like to get a part that is so central to this? >> well, it wasn't really an audition. >> seth: okay. >> i didn't think it was an audition. i guess it was kind of a life audition for warren. he had -- he had my agent call me and give me his phone number and told me to call him at home, which i thought was bizarre anyway. >> seth: yeah, right. >> so i called warren at home and he picked up and he's like, "i told you never to call here." and i was like, "oh my god, like what." and he was like, "i'm just kidding. what's up?"
