The Madhhab of Ahl ul-Hadeeth in Fiqh
Topic: The Madhhab of Ahl ul-Hadeeth in Fiqh
This is a translation of Nur al-Idah, A Classical Manual of Islamic jurisprudence. It was translated from the Arabic with Commentary and Notes by Shaykh Wesam Charkawi. Nur al-Idah is principally a Hanafi text which includes vast areas of jurisprudence, namely, the rulings pertaining to worship. It leaves the student or general reader well prepared to deal with the majority of matters ranging from purification, prayer, funerals, zakah to hajj. Imam Shafi’i was born in Gaza in the year 150. Two years later, his mother, Fatimah, moved to Makkah so that his maternal family could help raise him. Imam Shafi’i memorized the Qur’an at a young age, and Imam Malik’s Muwatta’ , which he borrowed from a friend, in seven nights. In Makkah, he studied with Muslim b. Khalid, Sufyan b. ‘Uyaynah, and others. He departed Makkah to take knowledge from the Imam of Ahl al-Hadith, Imam Malik b. Anas. Imam Shafi’i stayed with Imam Malik...

Imam Muzani penned a work on the fiqh of his teacher, Imam Shafi’i, which would serve as the basis for some of the most significant fiqh books to come. This work is known as Mukhtasar al-Muzani or just al-Mukhtasar . In fact, when the jurists mention a book just by the name al-Mukhtasar , then it is understood to be Mukhtasar al-Muzani . In al-Hawi al-Kabir , Mawardi said, “Imam Shafi’s As-hab confined themselves to the Mukhtasar of [Imam] Ibrahim b....

Details Athar as-Sunan: Traditions of the Sunnah. The Book of Proofs For Purification and Prayer. In this classic work Allamah an-Nimawi relates fiqh rulings, particularly those of the Hanafi madhhab, to their source Hadiths, reviewing what the leading scholars have said about their chains of transmission. Footnotes indicate the views of other Hadith specialists on the authors assessment of each Prophetic Tradition. Although an-Nimawi was only able to complete the sections on ritual...

One of the main turning points for the history of Islamic legal reasoning in particular, and the history of Islamic law in general, is the rise of madhhabs. Although the madhhabs had begun to appear in the eighth century, it was only in the tenth century that the process of their formation had reached a point that can be seen as the beginning of a new era in the history of Islamic law. Many historians confirm that the developments that occurred in the tenth century determined the crucial...

“Do I Need To Follow a Madhab?” ~Clarification Of a Common Misconception Amongst Muslims~by Mufti Muhammad Sajaad Imam Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti said: “The difference found in the four Schools of Islamic law (Hanafi, Shafi, Maliki and Hanbali) in this nation is a huge blessing and an enormous virtue. It has a subtle hidden wisdom the intelligent are able to grasp, but the ignorant are blind of. I have even heard some of them say: ‘The Prophet (pbuh) came with one law, so where did the four...

Was Imam Abu Hanifa (ra) weak in the science of Hadith? Did he rely on Qiyas (analogical deduction)? Has he based his school of thought on da’eef Ahadith? Was he considered unreliable in the Islamic sciences? Did the ‘Ulama consider him untrustworthy? This booklet will address these claims, as well as other remarks leveled at the prestigious Imam (ra).

This book by Mufti Muhammad Sajaad of as-Suffa institute outlines the reasons for the need to follow one of the four established schools of sunni jurisprudence - namely the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali schools. It responds to the notion of abandoning taqlid and shows how it has been the way of ahl al-sunna wa al-jama'a since the time of the noble companions (radhiallahu 'anhum) right up to this day. He also highlights how 'salafis' resort to their own form of taqlid.

Muslims have been relying on the four schools of thought (Madhabs) for Islamic jurisprudence for about thirteen centuries. Starting from the beginning of the 18th century, a war has been launched against the Madhabs. In the 1940s Imaam Muhammed Zahid Al-Kawthari analyzed the situation and revealed the real goals of the proponents of anti-madhabism and lists the perils of this abominable innovation. The Four Rak'ats before the Isha prayer: An assessment of its legitimacy In some of the books of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) there is a mention of the performance of four rak’ats of Salah before the actual obligatory (Fard) four rak’ats of the Isha Salah. This specific number of rak’ats of Salah before the Isha has been designated as being a Sunna ghayr mu’akkada (a non-insisted Sunna) by some jurists (Fuqaha).
